I believe the high mileage of a maker shows on projects like this - how one steers clear of challenges and picks the right trade offs. Masterfully executed as always Jimmy!
Hey Jimmy, little trick I’ve learned from staining leather for years: dampen the leather first, like you did before making the impression. The moisture in the leather will help the stain disperse more evenly and you won’t get the streaking.
I think even though the d-rings are below centre, any weight in the purse will offset that. I do like those rivets too to save sewing the straps and d-rings on. I really enjoyed the build 😊
I made the same bag. Used a shoe buckle for the closure. My D rings are also low because of the opening. Gets a little top heavy. Fun project and I love the impression you made with the press. Keep on posting. Cheers.
Wow! Such a fabulous product & such a fabulous education in the working of leather, so many things I did not know, so enchanting to watch & learn & see the birth of such a delightful present. Thank you for sharing!
@JimmyDiresta I love your videos! So well explained! You make it look so easy when I know it's hard work. Your creativity never ceases to inspire me and I thank you. When I work with stiff fabric I was using the plier trick as well but I found the pliers have a tendency to slip of the needle occasionally. I resolved this issue with an awesome product from the jewellery industry called "tool magic " it's a little jar of wet silicone type substance. The night before the project (I also make costume jewellery), I dip the plier jaws in the solution and hang them jaw up on the rim of a solid mug (so it doesn't tip over) over night to cure. This allows it to evenly coat the jaws and cure. It takes on the shape of the pliers. It will give you a better grip on slippery metal components without damaging the pliers or the components. It peels off easily. Planning ahead for which tools you need will save you frustration in the procedure of stitching. I would love to see you make something leather with Swarovski crystals! They are high end crystals. Perhaps a jewellery box with crystals on the lid in the shape of the recipients name or simply trim. I miss your videos
i usually dye the leather beforehand, and dilute it 50/50 with IPA. that way it goes on more evenly and also you can control the shade more as you can do multiple passes without it getting too dark.
Oh, I’d love to see a version with the straps through “belt loops” like you mentioned. I could also see a slightly larger diameter bag helping with some of the issues. Nice work!
I love your videos! I work with leather and your ways of solving leather working problems is a fresh take and i always like watching. My construtive critique is to use a stitch groover before you punch hole. This makes your stitch line look better gives you a guide as well as burries the thread in the leather so i doesnt snag. Love the videos keep them up!
Good day sir... Your artistry and craftsmanship continues to impress and amaze me with your breadth of materials. Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather. Peace Jimmy
Thank you, "Jimmy of all trades", a very creative design. Loved your giant screw press and pattern die. I wanted to learn how you sewed the bag but you were too fast for this old man. Could you occasionally slow down a bit. Thank you for the lesson Jimmy.
Thanks for sharing all the technical steps. Your new approach is so helpful and the bag is incredible. The video was a nice edit too and the angles were really good.
That is a beautiful bag. Your work is exemplary. I am amazed at the many different things your are able to fabricate from just an idea. I love your channel.
Excelente proyecto maestro, muy bien desarrollado y mejor ejecutado, gracias por compartir sus conocimientos y experiencias,un cordial saludo y por supuesto un merecido like desde Narón (Galicia)👍🤓😜
That is a really cool project! Love the way the you did the pattern for embossing the leather. Your creativity always amazes. I wonder if the wood pattern would last if it was used over and over? Would a pattern made from acrylic be durable enough to use repeatedly? Just thinking that this process would work for hat patches or anything else someone would want to put a patch on. I have so many ideas racing through my head right now! Love your channel and the myriad processes you engage in to do your work. Very inspired. Thank you!!
Stunning bag, Jimmy! Fantastic work! 😃 You could definitely make it with a lot of different openings... Perhaps even zippers! Really versatile design! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Mixed feelings here. IMHO, both quality hand stitching and a hand carved design are the two pillars of such an object and make it unique. I also understand Jimmy Diresta has to value his time.
This is spectacular! Particularly love your use of that steel bar as an "anvil" for installing your rivets. Is that bar shaped the same on both ends? If so, it might be useful to grind a rounded bit on one end for when you're doing this kind of thing. Would give you some flexibility I'd think. Cheers!
i recently started using an airbrush to stain the leather i saw someone do it on youtube and decided to give it a try. very easy to get an even finish, it is worth a try maybe you will like it too
Its a great bag and a lot of annoying stitching! 😄 If it was me, i would consider measuring and pre-punching all the holes, then stitching as i go without glue, or glueing a little at a time. You could also work from both sides (if you dont mind all the threads getting in the way) Might not make it any easier, but it's an idea.
You really need to fix up a vw van to follow them around on tour. Put the logo on the side of the van. That was always the dream. Insert band name. 0:01
Nice work. I think if you sew a little the piece that holds the belt it will prevent the whole body from rotating around the two rivets. Another thing, I thought you were married and you had a family and you were stable.
Question: Why not dye the leather before you cut and assemble it? All the leather work that I've done has been with latigo leather, which is already finished - all I had to do was finish the edges.

Спасибо за полезный совет!
Tank you for helpful idea.
@@dormindont1 не за что!
I'm really loving the leather work. That canteen took me back to my boy scout camp days, more years ago that I'd care to do.the math on.

If you use a magnet for the opening, you can get rid of the stud in the lid, and the strap should lay nicely. :)
Cool design - always a pleasure to watch the Bandsaw Whisperer at work ❤ and 5:54 gorgeous seamaster
You sure that's a Seamaster? I thought it looked like a Rolex Yachtmaster?

“And just prey that when it dries it dries with an even tone” 🤣. I can relate!
Thank you for all of your hard work giving us this content. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!
Love that handle on your fly press jimmy. Excellent bit of kit!
What a gorgeous bag!

Nice project Jimmy, Good luck to all. Be happy everyone. We appreciate you, 👍

Beautiful. If you make another one, just cut the closure flap so it sits flush, and put a short thin strap on top to connect to the button.
Really enjoyed all your explanation of the leatherwork process, makes it sound very accessible for someone without any experience.
Risk. So true! Thanks for the inspiration and teaching, because the more we do and learn the less mistakes we have. WE MAKE❤️
I am always impressed with your creativity.
Brilliant creative work 👏
Love watching the leather working side of things absolutely an awesome artist and creative man keep up the amazing work

Great film and purse. So awesome. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Fantastic bag. Wet molding opens up some incredible leather craft options.

Beautiful Jimmy. Every time I watch I get inspired.
Nice build. I was waiting for you to put the canteen in the bag until the end.
that dead impression looks so good...
it looks even better in the sun light
Heck yeah Jimmy

Nice work.
I have been wanting to try this on a leather bike saddle...for now I will just watch others and try to pick up some tips of the trade.
Amazing work! Thoughtful gift
I love this project! Excellent work!
Cool project nicely executed!
Beautiful - Thanks, Jimmy! 😎
"I Love it too!"
Nicely done Jimmy👍👍

Very unique design Jimmy! The canteen shape will go well with many western styles.

Not all who wander are lost, but they do need to hydrate.

Beautiful build! But what happened to Taylor?
Iove it, but was hoping this was the next episode of graveyard house.
Nice work. I think if you sew a little the piece that holds the belt it will prevent the whole body from rotating around the two rivets.

Well done Jimmy and it got the seal of approval from Rachel! Can't beat that! 👍👍
Looks great - Awesome video as is your standard.
Why do you choose to not burnish the edges of leather? Especially the boxing and straps?
Very nice.
Question: Why not dye the leather before you cut and assemble it? All the leather work that I've done has been with latigo leather, which is already finished - all I had to do was finish the edges.
Well said. That prevents two problems: uneven stains in the leather and helps prevent the glue from sticking to surfaces to which it does not belong.
Paused and straight to Instagram for some stalking..then she appears at the end! ❤️
Weir everywhere!!
Your die cast brass belt loop would have made a nice D ring.
would perhaps a rotary knife, stuck on to a 123block work to trim the molded blanks?
Amazing!!! 🔥👍
respect🤗👍👍👍
I want one
Did you consider burnishing the edges of the leather before assembly? Also, have you considered contact cement? Nice work!
