When I listen to this song, I think the lyrics mean being alone, depressed, and/or sad. But then you crash into someone who helps you and makes you happy. That's my interpretation
This it just hit me; Though the lyrics describe how this could have been about a vehicle accident this song just might be referring to how Daughtry 'crashed' into God. Daughtry's a christian by the way. He sings how he didn't know he was "going down", how he went up in flames could have been the death of him (probably referring to hell) but 'He' (God) saved him by 'breathing His breath in him' (just like how God gave Adam the 'breath of life'). "you will consume but I can't walk away" he's so grateful he can't abandon Him. "I can't walk away from your face and your eyes are burned into me." sounds pretty compassionate and like a very important person he can't forget. You'd be thankful for a random stranger who gave you CPR but to see Jesus's face? That makes sense why it'd be engraved into his mind that way.
