I hope Verity does something about Eric. She knew that her dad was crazy and did those things to Tony. And she carried on with helping Diane with the divorce and keeping his secret for so long. I hope she doesn’t do that with Eric. I’m glad that they caught the guy who attacked Maxine.

First of all, I am really sorry for Maxine. But one problem I have with this scene is how defensive the women get when Tony brings up the safety kits and cup lids.
Tony is clearly trying to be empathetic and help where he can by providing those things, and instead of thanking and commending him for his efforts, they’re all like: ‘We shouldn’t have to guard our drinks! You’re making it the *woman’s* responsibility!’
Yeah, well guess what…. It *IS* a person’s responsibility (regardless of gender) to keep themselves safe!
Also, is it me, or is every male character, who tries to voice their support in this scene, met with animosity? It’s like they’re just using every man in sight as a verbal punchbag!
P.S. I’m not trying to be offensive at all, or misogynistic. I’m just stating how I feel about this scene.

But you're right though, we are all responsible for our own safety and my mother has told me about looking after my drink every single time I go on a night out and she's right

I agree with you both Harry Willis and Sarah Yeates. All Tony, Jack, Tom and Romeo were doing was simply trying to show their support for Maxine and yet for some unknown reason Verity, Theresa, Zoe, Lizzie, Juliet and Nadira just didn't realize this and simply just criticized Tony, Tom, Jack and Romeo as if they're the ones in the wrong when they were just innocently showing support for Maxine. Having said that though it's interesting that Tony mentioned Natasha in this clip because since she died way back in 1996 she seems to have largely been forgotten about as she's barely mentioned these days.

as nice as that would be, seeing as we're talking about Hollyoaks here, i don't really see that happening any time soon. i mean, they did a (terrible) International Woman's Day "special" earlier this year & as this is Hollyoaks, i would be super surprised if they did an International Men's Day episode (the day of which is only less than a couple of weeks away) but i have extremely high doubts about it tbh.

Yes of course that needs awareness too but quite clearly, whole point of this is that this type of thing happens to women by men FAR more often, doing normal every person activities. I think this is a great storyline but, Hollyoaks has a history of assault and abuse with their female characters as well as their male characters. It's interesting that male sexual assault survivors on the show aren't part of the conversation. Luke and Brody are dead, Ollie isn't in town, Imran and John Paul are no where to be found, and James isn't a part of the story either. It's actually ironic because Romeo is the product of James being forced/coerced to have sex with Donna Marie.

@@user-by5lj5fs4v I never said it wasn't sick nor did I say I was okay with it. Also, part of the reason for spikes in cases is that we just came out of a worldwide pandemic that forced millions of people to be lockdown for months on end with their abusers. And actually the reports of unwanted touching and abuse for males especially those in minority groups comes within just a few % points of women. We just live in a society where men don't report because sexual assault is treated as a women's issue or joke. That's the reason we can have Donna Marie strolling around the village as a comedy character even though Romeo's existence is the product of sexual assault. Now I will agree that any and all victims of assault deserve to be heard. So, what Maxine and Lizzie are feeling should be the immediate issue and does take precedence.

they are definitely not applying predatory behavior to tony, jack, tom, and romeo. in this video maxine herself says "you four guys are the gentlest men i know" (not verbatim of course). the confrontation in the pub was more about how even the good guys can be complicit in sexist behavior, perpetuating harmful ideas like "if a girl rejects you, keep pushing until she breaks" or "well if she was wearing that clothing then she was definitely asking for it" or just the general idea of male superiority over women.
because our societies uphold men on hegemonic pillars, most men have contributed to sexism, rape culture, and things of the like. that being said, it is not like they are being conscious of these choices, but it is just so well-integrated into our societies that most men (and even women) don't realize it.
this scene was about helping men deconstruct what they have been taught all throughout their lives and help them realize that they can be better allies :]

it's sad when someone gets attacked/assaulted, but this whole episode in a nutshell was just 30 minutes of "woman gets attacked by 1 man = all men responsible". was also nothing but annoying, preachy, divisive, judgmental, manipulative & worst of all, one-sided.
also, if you use buzz-"words" like "mansplain" to deflect whatever's being said, not only is that sexist (yes, sexist), it's also pretty childish & you do not deserve to be taken seriously.
it should also be common decency to NOT attack/assault anyone at any point whenever or however. the only ones that don't have such decency are ones who commit such actions. i don't need nor appreciate being made to feel bad or take responsibility for apparently being male that had absolutely nothing to do with the incident.
bottom line, terrible episode & God-awful delivery of the message (whatever it was supposed to be).

The misandry on display in this episode was too much! These issues affect some males too. Some fear of being attacked stabbed and killed every time they leave the house.!
And throwing in lines like "educating the mysoginists" when taking about Tony, Romeo, Tom does not help anybody!

I have a feeling the guy who attacked Maxine might appear as a new character for future storylines; it could be his redemption arc, or he might be an upcoming villain.

also I'd just like to point out what Tom said about Mansplaining is incorrect lol the show's writers can't even get that right.

“Mansplaining” is just when a man explains something and a woman doesn’t like it but has nothing worth saying back so she just says “mansplaining”

Nice that they are raising awareness, but some of this was cringeworthy and too preachy!

    Question:
    Is it not her fault??
How do women in Amsterdam red light district attract pleasure seekers???
    By wearing un-modest clothes !
It is the law of nature that a male gender gets aroused by female physical features. So if a female provokes those feeling in a man, who's fault is it then???
Needless to say , a (so called) MAN who behaves in such a manner is NOT a MAN 👎 .
