Hawk enjoyed watching Mike Vrabel at the Cleveland Browns’ OTA session. The two riffed on the Pat McAfee Show about Vrabel’s command of the scout team’s defense, and his ability to talk trash while doing it. Vrabel is a good friend of the show and they’re happy to see him coaching again.
Vrabel played 13 seasons in the NFL before he started his coaching career. Vrabel has stayed in shape and looks like he can set the edge on the line of scrimmage. Vrabel sounds happy to be coaching for his hometown team. Hawk, another Ohio native, joked that the Browns should send Vrabel out on gameday wearing a Walsh Jesuit high school jersey to rouse up the crowd. The stadium would lose their mind if they saw Vrabel smash the guitar before kickoff.
Unfortunately, he won’t have the time as Kevin Stefanski and Jim Schwartz are keeping Vrabel busy as a coach where he belongs. The organization did a good job welcoming him to the team after the Tennessee Titans fired him.
Browns new assistant coach Mike Vrabel worked his way into the team's sixth OTA and showed that no man is bigger than the team. This time last year, Mike Vrabel was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, deciding who he should start at quarterback prior to the start of the 2023 season.
Today, that same guy took the field on the defensive scout team and the scout kickoff team for the Cleveland Browns. A lot can change in 365 days.
Vrabel's actual role for the Browns is still unclear. He was hired under the title "Coaching and Personnel Consultant" which leaves a lot of room for interpretation as to what he will be doing on a daily basis. Vrabel's goal was to just get back on his feet after a tough end to his tenure as the Titans' head man, but also gain some front-office experience. Maybe the long term goal for him is the Bill Belichick mold where he is both head coach and general manager. Time will tell, but for now he is a part of the Browns staff.
Thursday's sixth Browns OTA provided some color as to what he will be doing on a daily basis and it was far from his last job as the head coach. Vrabel found himself as a member of the defensive scout team, giving the offense some looks before being a scout guy on a simulated kickoff.
He did both jobs with the utmost enthusiasm and energy, as you would expect from a former Super Bowl Champion. While Vrabel may not be roaming the sidelines in the fall or making the biggest decisions of the game, he is going to be a tool that Kevin Stefanski goes to often.
Earlier in the offseason, Stefanski hinted at his relationship with Vrabel and how he couldn't bounce ideas off of him since he was a rival coach. Now, Stefanski has him on his staff and at his disposal. I'm sure Vrabel's role will continue to evolve but one thing stands true, he will do anything to win football games and Thursday was a prime example of just that.

Ive been saying since the dorsey hire: This is an all star office, and if they gel then they have the potential to innovate football. Nearly every time we've seen an innovative successful strategy take over the nfl, It's been birthed out of an all-star coaching team.

G. Bringing it, keeping it real. There's definitely a positive vibe about this Browns team. We're here in the Green area and pack the house at jerzzes in Green and Belden Village also in Canton. Garrett Bush is one of us and chargers are battery even in off season. We're looking forward to this season and all of his shows covering all Cleveland sports teams. We would love for him to do a show at one of are restaurants and sports bar. It's exciting being in North East Ohio feeling the Guardians can make a great run to the playoffs and the Browns can pick up and bring it back healthy . A Home playoff in Cleveland can you imagine? Let's Go.

I was baffled when no one was talking about the Vrabel hire. And i didn't even realize he's on the Titans' books for the year? I guess they released him from his contract. Berry and crew also did a great job of finding people with a passion for cleveland in general; Vrabel's from Akron, Dorsey played for the browns, and Schwartz on the staff in the 90's under belichick. With stefanski at the helm this is probably the most decorated and experienced coaching staff in the league minus the chiefs mostly due to andy reid. After this long, I have full trust in management, coaching, and ownership (assuming they re-sign stefanski), which is something I never thought I'd say in my life as a Browns fan.

Let me say this...I would love to publicly apologize for the comments I've made about KS , but when it comes to me saying what I say he reminds me of Marty Schottenheimer trying to call the offense back in the day who was also clueless in that aspect of the game he refused to hire a high level OC and we paid for it.

@@draimonshepherd1791 Hailing from Akron, Ohio - Mike Vrabel is an NFL Pro-Bowler and All-Pro who won 3 Super Bowls as a player, played under the likes of Cowher, Belichick and OBrien. Coached at Ohio State and then NFL where he posted a 56-48 record going .400 in playoffs and won (a legitimate) NFL COTY award in 2021 with Titans. Vrabel has way better pedigree, swagger, and accomplishments. He’s a players coach and is very defensive minded. Would fit this city and team like a glove.
