There is nothing, but nothing!!, better than hearing about the music from the people who made. Big kudos to Numero Records for making this great music available again. Hope some some of the artists made some money out of it too
Thank you for preserving this precious music. The Miami sound vanished overnight...what happened? Helene Smith is a treasure, and Betty Wright was the nicest star I ever had the privilege to meet. R.I.P. Miss B.
Very interesting, I had not heard of the label before, not surprised the music was popular with the Northern Soul crowd! Some great singers and musicians. The tune of the last record playing over the credits at the end sounded very much like the Jackson Five's hit I Want You Back 😀
@@TheSoulArchiveTV the earliest ones I rememnber were on the Dade label (Miami was Dade County) I think that was a Henry Stone label.I don't remember seeing the Deep City label back then...I got Helene Smith issued on Phil LA of Soul. "The Cow" by Bill Robinson & the Quails was a big dance record in Miami on the Dade label.
This is an excellent documentary. If you like the sound of Miami's Deep City soul music label at its finest, and want to learn about the lives of those people who made it all possible, watch this!
Finally, a documentary with William "Little Beaver" Hale, if there was ever the use of the term "underrated" justified, it's his. All his Cat albums with songs like Joey, Concrete Jungle, Party Down, Let The Good Times Roll, Party Times, Groove on e.t.c. should have been way bigger than they were. But then again, almost nobody from this scene really made it big. Clarence Reid didn't invent Blowfly out of a creative move but to finally make some money. And again, a lot of the musicians from this documentary played on those albums.
What are the tracks played out in the background to this documentary is it Betty Wright singing got to do your thing. So many I've never heard which I want
Heavy Gratitude Ps Betty Wright's album with The Roots is a massive classic. Pps Peace to Blowfly, Little Beaver and all the artist who contributed to soul music from Florida to California to whole globe.
Clarence "Blowfly" Reid was the man. No one more interesting and provocative than him in this entire documentary. Still a great documentary nonetheless, but I'm just sayin'...
I really enjoyed this documentary Johnny had to follow his heart but I wish she would have followed. Clarence, they would have been a Big sensatincl Globally. Kudos to miss Eileen Smith, and the world loves Betty Wright.
Great great great documentary!!! Never been covered. Man, Betty Wright is the queen!!!

some of these artists had a renaissance in the NORTHERN SOUL REVIVAL IN THE 70s
Absolutely amazing
