In the guest network settings, "Access Intranet" means whether you are allowing people to access the stuff on your local network or not. Unless you want to give guests access to your local shares, or a NAS, or a local server, you should leave it to "Disable". It doesn't have anything to do with "Internet" access. Internet and Intranet are different things. In QoS settings, if you enable it, it will ensure that you can still load web pages at a good speed while you are downloading large files from the internet (like Steam downloads, or peer2peer).
I've never used this router, but I think you're wrong around the 5:18 mark about "access intranet" enable/disable for the guest network. It says intRAnet, not internet. Which I think means if you're on the guest network you can disable access to your local network, or intranet, from your normal wireless network or ethernet lan. In other words, you can give guests access to the internet, but not your local servers, printers or file shares. I wouldnt' see the point of having a guest network with internet disabled.
You can not have two routers connected on the same network. If you are connecTing this to your existing wireless gateway (modern/router combo), then you have to go into settings of your existing router and disable the internal router. This will turn it into a modem only and usually the only hardwired port that will work is port#1. If you need more ports in your new router then add a switch to it, Not a router. This will also prevent you from having dual fire walls, which will help with stricked nat problems when gaming online with cod.
I just setup my router thanks to your video but my 5ghz isn't showing up on my phone anymore . do you have any tips on how to have both 2.4 and 5 appear as options on my phone and other devices ? unfortunately the house I'm at is using a comcast wifi/modem we bridged it so we could use my asus incase that matters . thanks
Having real big problems with combining TV and internet on this router. According to my internet provider ( fiber optics ) its the dark knigh router that messes it up. They say the internet signal from the cables disturbes the tv signal, even though everything is directly connected with CAT 5. Sounds weird to me. I have set Port 3-4 to LAN TV , then port 1-2 for internet. From router to tv box is a CAT 5 cable. From Router to ASUS Repeater there is a Switch ( 1gb ) in between, but this has no direct contact with the tv. Worked flawlessly for about 1 month , now my tv picture is really messed up. Sound is perfect but picture is unwatchable, like a VHS tape gone wrong. Any suggestions? Is it true that the internet signal from the CAT5 cables can disturb the TV signal in the other CAT5 cable? Even though i have seperated them in the router menu ? Thnx
im using it for gaming sometimes, for example COD Black Ops 2, getting Strict NAT all the time, My upnp is enabled, NAT is enabled, I port forwarded port 3074 on the router for both UDP and TCP, Enabled TMZ, ip address off station is my IPv4 adress, still getting strict NAT on games, is the problem maybe that the my asus router gets its network from another router/modem? do i have to portforward some ports on modem/router where my asus router is getting network from?
ok i have the thompson tg585 v8 modem/router, not sure what to configure, the upnp is enabled, does not have any nat function, plse help, what do i do?
I need help. My question is how can I access my hard drive through the USB port? My N66U detects the usb port but it won't let me set it up as a Media Server. When I try to install the Download Master I get an error. Please help. Also my N66U is set up as a Wireless router mode which is weird because I'm using a DSL modem and its suppose to be set up as an Access Point mode. Thanks
Thx that was a clear and informative vid about my router and cleared up a lot of questions. Do you have any tips on how my transebd harddisk can be recognized in the router cause it sees my (formatted) usbdisk, the usb icon is highlighted but still says it is unmounted.? thx in advance.
hey, i was wondering if you can help me configure my QoS settings. i see you didnt go through that. now, im able to limit a persons upload, but not able to limit their download speeds. i need help :( is my wireless router broken? i have a asus-rtn66u
How do I add more clients to my main connection. I've only been able to connect my other clients to the guest connections. I'm using my macbook to set up the network and i'm trying to connect my iphone but it says its unable to connect.

Great tutorial. I need some help cause I have some trouble with my Asus DSL AC88U Clients (Client Status) setup. The problem is that I had blocked my nephew call from "Block Internet Access" Button ON and now I don't know how to Unblock it cause I even can't see it connected. Is there someone to help me please!
Anyone know if it is possible to Enable and Disable the WAN connection on this router on a schedule? I mean turn off the WAN connection at a specific time and turn it back on again at a certain time, anyone?
If the machine you are running inSSIDER on has a dual band capable card then both bands should show up automatically. I would name your 5GHz network with a different name than your 2.4GHz band so that you can identify them. If you want a machine to run strictly on the 5GHz band you will have to only put your 5GHz information into it. Oftentimes the 2.4GHz band is a strong signal so machines will auto switch to it, even if there is more interference.
You need a compatible wireless card to work on the 5GHz band. Not all 802.11n wireless adapters work with 5GHz networks. Is it an older xbox or the Xbox One?
Most of the Xbox 360s did not ship with 5GHz capability though a few models did. According to the specs for your laptop it has an Intel Wireless card in it that is also a single band (2.4GHz) only so the 5GHz would not show up on it.
Got this to replace another wireless router and the speeds have gone way up on my wireless devices Laptops and phones it's almost as if the devices are wired in and the biggest difference is the signal strength.
dude, anyone can read what is in the menus, please explain some of this stuff, that is what i have come to hate about computer related advice, no one follows through with explanations, everyone just expects you to know what everything is and how set it up and how it works, just sucks that i have all these options and things i could do, but no one, i repeat no one really wants to help, it is all vague and when someone posts a vid like this, the videos rarely describe how to actually do things or what they are or what risks/advantages may be in play, makes me want to give up, thank god we all will die one day

This router is a beast.. Love it!
Thanks for this overview! Very complete!

Good stuff- thank you. Just ordered this router and will be setting it up soon!
Thanks man, just what I needed.
yes if your router is connected to a modem. you first have to configure your modem and enable nat/upnp
Great overview

I agree I wanted also to see if there other options with that that after you select enable

Can you use this router as a switch and disable WiFi?
Only bad thing about this router is that the NAT configuration fails to work, so this is not a gaming router, but overall good one.
felt like it was rushed towards the end, skipping many details. first half was good. thank you.
Anyone know if it is possible to Enable and Disable the WAN connection on this router on a schedule? I mean turn off the WAN connection at a specific time and turn it back on again at a certain time, anyone?
How do you block specific websites? Thanks
and connect your xbox ps3 or whatever to the modem which is getting the internet directly no second router
how do strictly use the 5ghz band on my router I use inssider home and my band isn't changing how do I change this?

yeah I changed the network name and everything also my pc is 802.11n but I don't know why it doesn't appear on any device not even my xbox

and then don't forget to restart your modem to save the settings. turn it off for 30 seconds and then turn it on again
i wanted to see lan tabs
Got this to replace another wireless router and the speeds have gone way up on my wireless devices Laptops and phones it's almost as if the devices are wired in and the biggest difference is the signal strength.
i think this is a modem router
why are you using IE , it sucks
