    It's basically a Road King knock-off....that's been Massively improved and done Right, without losing any of the charm or character. And what Really pisses me off, is Harley KNEW about all the weak points with the Road Kings, but REFUSED to correct it....so Yamaha did.....that's basically what the Roadstar 1600 is.

    • @kman-mi7su
      @kman-mi7su 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Harley is probably the biggest rip-off operation in the industry. They know how to market the hype to sell bikes to people. Then they turn around and sell overpriced services and merchandise to those who bought into the hype while knowing about weak points and raking in more money because of those issues. I rode Harleys for 25 years and now I ride a Yamaha Royal star.

    Those old carbureted Road Stars sound better than a Harley. Too bad Yamaha let them, along with the Liners, fade into history rather than updating them to remain competitive.

      Steven Arndt I totally agree with you. Just awesome machines that led their class, and even today, just an awesome bike to cruise stock, or tricked out to your preferences.

      People pull up to my 05 1700 all the time and tell me they thought it was a HD. I think to myself "No, I'm smarter than that. Better quality for a A LOT less $$$."

    • @brianzaborowski2724
      @brianzaborowski2724 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those idiots are great for stopping production on good bikes, just like the Royal Star Venture too! I wanted one bad, but had to settle for a Harley since I couldn't get a new one and I don't want a used one. I'm holding out hope that they will bring it back with maybe fuel injection and at least a cd player instead of a cassette player next time around, lol. I'm not holding my breath though, '13 was the last year for them and still nothing yet.

      Is a 2004 midnight 16,000 miles garage kept worth $4000 00? Kinda looking at age but excellent condition and after seeing your post really considering - Curious as to how good the brakes on these models?

    • @harveynewman4333
      @harveynewman4333 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      at least that price. I know where there is a 2007 mid-nite,with 1,400 miles,for sale. has pipes on it. may pick it up for around 5000. the brakes work pretty good for the size of the bike. if you want it ,let me know.

    42000 on my Roadster with no oil consumption yet. It did get the trans. recall which I found out required the engine to be dismantled. They do put new rings in at that time. Love the bike and I have ridden plenty of Harleys the latest being a 2018 Street Glide with the 107 Milwaukee engine . I would trade yes, but there truthfully isn't that much difference.

    Traded my 2000 Roadstar for a Roadliner. I miss that bike like an ex girlfriend that I loved. Roadliner has more power and better handling but there was just this old school raw feeling from that bike. I was sick of starting issues on road trips with elevation changes so I went to fuel injection. Had 14" fat apes on her and felt bad to the bone. Don't get that feeling on the Roadliner but she is a good bike too. I might have to go back to one sometime. And to the Harley skeptic, 100K miles is doable on these bikes just with regular maintenance.

    The oversquare design of the 1300 likes high revs.. It hates being chugged.. I can cruise/slightly chug mine lol with my added mods. Flash, slip on, intake, and fuel controller. Runs night n day . If I ever get in your area while I'm out riding .. I'll let you spin it, n give your opinion .

    If you had to choose between the 1700 road star and the VTX1800 which one would you choose?

    • @joelalexander5338
      @joelalexander5338 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's a good question. I'm a previous VTX 1800 owner, and I miss it so much. Maybe I'm a little biased, but I think the VTX is the better choice for power and ease of maintenance. The VTX is, of course, shaft drive. In my thinking, shaft drive is superior to the belt. On the other hand, the 1700 sounds much better. The VTX 1800 is a dual pin motor that just doesn't sound as good as the 1700. The 1300 VTX sounds awesome with good pipes on it because it's a single pin motor. For the money and raw stock power and speed, though, I'm gonna get another VTX. Whichever you chose, both are proven winners and exel in so many categories where comparable Harleys do not. Cheers!

    I'd definitely buy the Roadstar before a Road King. I look for reasons to buy something else but a Yamahog, but still can't find a reason.

Sean it's not what you're riding it's were your going! I like keeping up though, with the Harley Davidson.

    This is probably the only yamaha motor that sounds close to a Harley, it's the only one yamaha motor that and bike combo that doesnt look so asian. The signal lights look kind of goofy and the long rear fender should be chopped

    They're a cheap-ish bike, but you'll need to spend a small fortune yo make it decent, like after market pipes, replace all the lastic, lengthen the forks, but the engine is absolutely solid.

    • @budfans
      @budfans 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      no you dont its set up pretty good from factory maybe spend a few bucks to change to taste but thats any bike

    • @nicstr28
      @nicstr28 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      BS. No different than people making their harley "their own" with aftermarket pipes seats etc...theres zero reason to lengthen the forks

    150,000 miles on a air cooled V Twin ?? no way !! not without that engine being totally rebuilt at least once !! also Road King is a far better bike , far better resale as well

    • @terrylikens3183
      @terrylikens3183 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SJC Cobra your wrong about resale value.the percent resale is the same because the Yamaha selling new for a lot less. compare a raider Yamaha to a switch back Harley.comparable in features.

    • @tangogolfsierra9255
      @tangogolfsierra9255 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Better resale for sure, but Roadstar owners usually pay off their bikes and keep them! So that is not an issue. I am from Milwaukee and all my friends own the latest and greatest Harley. I just laugh at how much they owe on their bikes and the cost of insurance. lol we give each other shit but I don't have bolts rattling off my bikes and don't have to pay the dealership for their expensive hourly wages for maintenance.

    • @cike8694
      @cike8694 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Do a google search on the mileage. 150k miles on one of these is not uncommon with just general maintenance. I know of several with over 200k with no major work. Hard to beat these bikes. They can be picked up cheap too.

    • @nicstr28
      @nicstr28 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mines got 90k miles . Never been in the shop except at 3k miles for a 3rd gear recall. Never broke down or left me stranded EVER.
      My tool kit has only been used to fix my buddies harleys on the road and a few people on harleys I didn't know. They appreciated those metric tool because they kept them all on their way to their destination. That bike used 3 rear and 2 front sets of tires a year before I moved where I live now. Best bike I've ever owned and I've owned a road queen and for. The bottom end grunt can pull stumps.

    • @nicstr28
      @nicstr28 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And who cares about resale. You don't want to sell them like you want to sell the road queen before you do your ...as you stated..."expected rebuild"🤣😂

    I am glad I bought it.
