Just the best! I think you are the only chateau that has taken on this scale of garden landscaping. From a blank slate to an authentic walled garden is truly a work of art. A painstakingly hard work of art. Massive project to include the irrigation, electrics and edging. And now the hardscaping. The fact that you are implementing it yourselves is the outstanding part. It will be another Villandry!
And just think of all the work it took for them to reach the blank slate stage. There were so many volunteer trees. This really is a magnificent piece of work.
Terry you are such a sweet man , infact your whole family are wonderful . I can't tell you enough how well you've all done , how far you have come in such a short time . Fabulous.
Caution Terry and Ash. You may find that the top soil you'll put in the beds will also have weed seeds and roots. I've had two separate deliveries of top soil over the years and spent years eradicating the weeds introduced with the soil. Advice from a plantsman was cover any new soil with plastic for several months to sterilize it. My advice is to follow his advice and wait until autumn to plant your beds. Best of luck.
@@chateaudelalacelleI completely agree! Last year (in America) my husband ordered soil to build part of our yard higher & plant grass, bc it’s been like a pond in the rain. It must’ve come from a farmer’s field bc it was full of wild grains, weeds of all kinds plus stones! Those things then spread to our raised garden beds. It’s awful.
How wonderfully LUCKY for this Old Girl to have you lot come back and breath Beautiful Life back into her. I just LOVE and ADMIRE your DEDICATION to HER and HER GROUNDS.⚜⚜⚜⚜🧡🧡🧡🧡
Terry and Ash, I love seeing the aerial view of the garden and really enjoyed your walking us through the entire plan. It’s going to be amazing and it’s my hope that when I come to France, your château is one that I hope to stay at and see that wonderful garden and all the amazing renovations that you’ve done to the château. Of all of the château channels that I watch, that garden is bar none the most spectacular. Cheers.
Those aerial shots show what magnificence the garden will be. Stunning. Weeds also sow from the top (seeds dropped by birds or blown by wind) so don’t be surprised when that happens. Great that you’ve got the army of helpers back. They’ll be sore! ❤
Exactly what I thought when you asked for suggestions however Tracy on her own in a lovely dress sans garden tools. Tracy is a wonderful roll model for the family. The love abounds for each other .
Do you ever eat? Do you ever rest? I’ve been watching you since day one and you all never cease to amaze me. I shake my head in wonder at all you accomplish and the sheer excellence of every decision you make. It’s all so beautiful!❤️
Another precaution to use when creating pathways, is to line the pathways with a heavy duty landscape cloth prior to the gravel going down. Heavy duty cloth is key as it will last for years and stop any weeds from growing up thru the gravel. Used it in my pathways, and 20+ years later it is still intact and doing its job. The natural gravel will look wonderful in the garden, once it is watered in and compacted. I think a large ornamental sundial on a pedestal would like wonderful in the middle of the main circle.
Looks amazing!!! A suggestion for the centre circle in the walled garden would be a wrought iron ornamental gazebo. You could pave that whole central section so it's a lovely flat surface with a round table and chairs. Fairy lights all over the gazebo would look stunning at night. Whatever you choose will be awesome. xx
The garden/lawn plans are incredibly beautiful. What a massive job. Can not wait to see it completed. Please give us constant (slow) sweeping views of it in all your videos. So impressive!
Guys the work you’ve accomplished in such a short time is beyond spectacular. Every time I see you at work I’m amazed you can stand up straight at the end of the day. It’s good you have your baths in place as you must be desperate to soak in them every evening. Take care of yourselves.
Lost for words for Tracy ,Love the desigh of the garden ,Done so much hard work this family ,been watching since the begining ,Love your video's ,they give me such joy ,at 86 ,All the best for the future ,👍
I appreciate the drone shots. They really show the immense amount of work that has been done and that remains to be accomplished. Thanks for showing the plan again too. I didn’t realize how much grass there would be. Hopefully the dogs won’t use it too much. One of the great joys of a good lawn is being able to walk barefoot through it.
Creating a garden of this magnitude is no picnic, it is incredibly exhausting and hard work, but when the garden is finished, and all the flowers and greenery have matured, your garden will be so grand and beautiful, that Versace's gardens will not be able to hold a candle with the gardens of Lalacelle. Incredible what you have all achieved, everything is coming along beautifully 😍 👏🏼👏🏼
I recall you removing the massive trees, bramble n sheer overgrown mess that was this garden before. WOW! AMAZING feat to see all your dreams coming together. It is going to look TRUELY AMAZING!!!!! X CANNOT WAIT 😍
The plans look amazing! This is a huge project, but it will be a lovely space when you finish it. I'm glad you have some helpers. It always makes a difference when you have extra hands. Work safe!
Take a look at the Gardens of Filoli. You may get some ideas for your focal points. We vist the gardens frequently... they're like going back in time. ❤️🙏
Please say you’ll rent a skid steer to move all that gravel. It’s a three day job with one. Three weeks without. They are available with tracks that won’t mess up your lawn, and if you have to take down a small bit of wall to get it into the garden, it’s well worth it. Pro tip: if you insist on using wheelbarrows, three is your magic number. Three wheelbarrows, three workers. One man loads an empty wheelbarrow while another man runs his load to the garden while another man is returning from the garden. The loader will always have a full one for a runner to pick up. I have moved thousands of yards of material this way. It really does help.
I was thinking one of those rubbish tubes from the top garden down to the next level. You could load it from the top into wheelbarrows at the bottom. Maybe even use wheelbarrows at the top too.
Why don’t you have Rosemary hedges as well as the lavender hedges. They also smell amazing with blue flowers. If you planted pink lavender it would be a beautiful contrast. Also boxwood May get the caterpillar attacks like other areas in France.
This is such a magnificent project and you are all so inspiring and proof that hard work is always worth the end result. You should all be so proud of yourselves. What an awesome family you are. ❤️
Amazing undertaking! You will have such a sense of accomplishment when you finally stroll in the completed garden with your favorite beverage in hand! Not to mention you will need a full time gardener to maintain it! 🙃
I love that your formal garden will have different walking surfaces, from the graveled paths to the grassy walks between hedges. It makes makes a stroll in the garden more interesting and keeps your feet happier.
So impressed with everything you have achieved. The garden plan is lovely - it's going to be beautiful. Love your vision and the will to see it through - very inspiring.
What a fantastic garden design. I love the symmetry and the repeating circles extending to the negative space! It is by far the best garden amongst the chateaus of TH-cam land. Can’t wait to see what you plant ❤
I love that you want people to experience the FULL Chateau experience! Everything you do is at a Grande scale! I would do it the same! It is marvelous, what you are doing! A true Phoenix!❤
Looks terrific, what back breaking work! the clearing of trees, roots, branmbles, the cement blocks and now the gravel...take it slow and lets not throw anyones backs out!
You probably already know, but it's a good idea to flush your irrigation lines with water prior to fitting the sprinkler heads, to get rid of any cut plastic caught inside the pipes from cutting. Looking great.
Your French garden is going to be gorgeous. I have done a plan like this around the house to conceive our garden with two expert. It's the best thing to do. Everybody envy my little paradise now! I have done almost everything with my long time companion. So, since 15 years the garden is gaining in maturity and it's beautiful. When we are outside we are remembering the beginning of our work. Now, we are in the sixties and appreciate so much the sound of our fountain ⛲ during dinner time or tea time outside. ❤ Bravo's to you both. You are bringing back beauty everywhere. From Canada
Just thinking about the first day you all moved in.how overgrown all the land was. Wow, now with all your hard work and talent its amazing. You are all so talented and hard working team.
Guys I can't believe the "Just Jobs" completed in the Walled Garden already. AMAZING PROGRESS! I'm so glad for you that the family is there again to help lighten the load. That includes Sweet Sasha & Sir Patrick always at the ir supervisory stations. Take care all.😊
Looking at the garden design, it appears that there will be little shade until the trees reach a decent height (probably a few years). If you placed benches around the center circle, you could place a *huge* terracotta, or ceramic pot, in the center. In the summer, you could plant it and put a giant patio umbrella in it illuminated with fairy lights, In the winter, you could take in the umbrella and replace it with a Christmas tree with lights. It just looks lush!
Did you ever expect the enormous amount of work you would have to do to make everything look so spectacular?! The stamina you all have is admirable. You must take huge pride in each and every project that you have completed and are doing. I don't think there are many people who could keep up the pace you are maintaining. One thing for sure there is no need for a gym membership.
I think a beautiful statue in the middle that you can admire from seating around the curved edges. You can see and hear the fountains. It's going to be so wonderful.

Fell asleep trying to watch the vlog so first thing I did when I woke up was to watch your amazing progress which is little short of monumental, it’s going to be fabulous and I’d love to know where you get your stamina from. Thanks for taking us all on the journey with you.
I love the plan, repeat things so it all ties together, keep the sight lines open and it will be stunning. Most people fall for as much variety as possible while big spaces with repeating plants and furniture tie a garden this big together. Glad you take something else for the boxwood. You need a mighty amount of toxic spray to kill the moth. It is not worth it because of the health hazard. We know on here you get the gravel in by hand. Like you do all the family way. Love that.
If you've ever watched Dan Preston at Chateau de Chalemet, Stephanie's former gardener. He has 2 mechanized wheelbarrows that run on treads and have a pneumatic dump feature.I thought at first he rented them to go into the basement of the burned out ruins to haul out several tons of debris. You were lucky to find the Chateau, but the Chateau was equally lucky with you. You are doing a marvellous job with skill and great taste. My best wishes and greetings to you all
The grass paths are a wonderful plan! There's nothing like walking on grass in the sunshine surrounded by the beauty and aromas of flowers. I'm imagining several benches placed among the grass walkways so one can sit and enjoy both the gardens and the views. Stone would be grand with no backs so you can face either way. Just dreaming up more "just jobs" for you. 😊
How far you have come and what a masterpiece of personal effort you have put into the garden space. Looking so lovely in design. To be enjoyed for generations.
Lovely plans Terry. A massive job to undertake. Best wishes for the future ahead with your garden. Your chateau is beautiful. Congratulations for a fantastic job so far. I am in admiration. ❤❤❤🇦🇺

With the caveat that I watched this video AFTER the one posted the following day, I do think that you should keep the color of the gravel as is. The builders suppliers and building specialists in France must love all the Brits who are rescuing these old buildings!
What a backbreaking job! Ash, Tracy and Terry - you must fall into bed exhausted every night. Loved seeing Patrick supervising everyone.
Patrick is such a great project manager. Keeps the diggers and workers on the right track and shows them how it is done.
Terry you are such a sweet man , infact your whole family are wonderful . I can't tell you enough how well you've all done , how far you have come in such a short time . Fabulous.
Terriy’s sweetness when he smiles and says bye at the end of the videos always warms my heart. There is so much to that young man.

I agree I ended up with a field of oil seed rape Argo
I bought horse manure and had loads of buttercups and still do

This is incredible! A professional garden center would have 15 people in this project, and look at what only 3 to 6 of you have accomplished. Wow!
Thanks Maggie 🥰

I still think a statue of Tracy holding various gardens tools would be great feature in the centre. Immortality,
Absolutely 💯🥰🥰
With her shorts, rubber boots, Patrick at her feet and a gin in tonic in her hand raised in a toast to your hard work and perseverance
I agree 🎉

I agree… weeds are tough grew though 4” asphalt on a bike trail our city put in. Burning them out like Leland has to keep doing is time consuming.

My back hurts! Good luck moving all that gravel. The garden is really taking shape!
This garden project is already epic. To think of how over taken by nature it was to now is just incredible. Awesome job, all.❤

I loved the drone footage of the garden.
Gardens are organic living things they often make their own decisions about stuff but go with it, what a great journey.
Thanks John 🥰
So true. As any gardener knows, they know where they do, and do not, like to be and they let you know!
So Much PROGRESS. Go back a year and look at what they were doing. Wow! I LOVE YOUR DETERMINATION.
