It has a beacon check button with reduces the search grid to only 1 meter so 5 people can be standing 1.5 2 meters apart and you can individually check each person, then you put it back to transmit and head out.
signal pass through snow however the snow is only so deep, and even though many people have been rescued alive burried over 6 feet, it is unlikely as the weight of a deep burial means the buried victim is crushed by that weight.
