I'm so glad you left that big fat base on it, so many turners cut the base down too thin, the different tones in the wood make it special, rustic. I love it! Thank you!
Cool tree Mike! I'm yet to turn laburnum but I've had a piece waiting to go on the lathe for the longest time! Ok, so you're wife likes trees and you make trees, I'm gonna say there's 15 in the house 😂 Great video, cheers mate!
Nice looking tree. Well done. I guessed 3 trees so a mile off the actual number. Laburnum is not native to the US, but the freshly turned colour looks similar to mulberry. Sad that mulberry quickly reacts to become a dull muddy brown colour, not at all attractive. Glad you did not get a catch with the skew. I have complete confidence with my skew - as long as I leave it sitting in the rack on the wall. Dave.
Hi Dave, you were way off, we had 3 up before Halloween! My wife does enjoy Christmas! Laburnum is a beautiful wood to turn, the grain is just amazing but you do have to be a little careful how you deal with it as it's poisonous, so you don't breath in the dust or make a fruit bowl from it. I am getting better with the skew so confidence is growing, but as we both know it can and will bite back at any point. Thanks as ever Dave, all the best Mike
“The goose is getting fat, please to put a penny in the old man’s hat” Fortunately your turning far surpasses my singing. My guess is eleven this will make an even 12 which brings to mind …”on the 12th day…”love your work😊
Hi Mike, Yes, I have been active turning various styles of trees. I would normally make the 'trunk' a bit thinner than your design, but I like to leave the base as 'rustic' as possible. I haven't tried laburnum, though - it looks great. I was going to guess into double figures of trees in your house from your hints; I think we will end up with a (much) higher number than your house! - my Wife goes bonkers with it all (not that it is a competition) 😊
I agree with David Baxter, the trunk is a bit too thick. Apart from that somewhat petty niggle, it's a nice, pretty design. I shall be changing the way I do mine - particularly the base - so thanks Mike.
@@MikeHolton Wow, Mike, this reminds us of how far your channel has come in 2 years! - you reference to reaching 2500 subscribers - I am so glad to have been with you throughout the 'journey' so far, I have learned so much, let alone the enjoyment of watching. Thank you, my friend! PS It is another 'bonkers' Christmas for trees and decorations in our house - no doubt the same for you and yours. Cheers!
lol I get that, I was going to use the title 'this put a smile on my wife's face' but decided against it for the same reason :), thanks as always for your support.
Beautiful finished tree Mike and your wife likes Christmas more than I thought. 🎄 🤔
Thanks Sam, yes she does 😀
how cute (and beautiful) is this????? i think 7 trees :) have a great day!!!
Thanks Dee, my wife loves it and I think it may be staying out all year round. Way off with the guess it's 14 now!!
Talk soon, Mike
Shocked and Amazed you remember that two years later😱😳🤣
Haha it's etched into my brain lol
Very nice tree and turning. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Rick, Merry Christmas 😀

Not quite yet but so many more than I ever expected 😀
Just saw this come up on TH-cam. I was wondering what to do with some small branches. Now I have a good idea. Thanks, and have a Merry Christmas
Thanks Bryce, and the same to you 😀

Thanks Tim, your guess was spot on if you could the 3mm tree I made yesterday :)
Forgot to say that laburnum is great to turn just make sure you wear your dust mask as it is poisonous.
Nice looking tree. Well done.

Double it and add a few more :)
Nice tree, Merry Christmas
A nice little decoration, indeed!
Thanks my wife loves this 😀
This is really nice, subtle little christmas decoration. My guess was gonna be 11 but then you said 13 as I was typing haha.
Close, so close. Thanks as ever :)
I like your tree better than mine. I am going to copy your method if you don't mind. Thank you
Ki Kerry, of course I don't mind :) have fun and let me know how you get on. Thanks for watching
Lovely use of the skew chisel Mike, i was way out with a meagre 5
Thanks Steve, with most households 5 would have been a good guess but my wife is . . . . . . . special 😂
Very nice 👍. Make great gifts
Thanks Robert, people do like these and so easy to make.
Nice.
Thanks! 🙏
Não sei oque mas FICOU lindo
awesome video !
Thanks so much Delton 🙏
Nice project. Question: The timber you used looked like it was well dry. Could you use the same approach with green wood? Thanks!
Yes, absolutely. Although depending on what wood you use it could split.
@@MikeHoltonThanks. I'll give this project a try on some Maple.
@@sgoldste02 Have fun and let me know how you get on 😁

@@davidbaxter5132 Haha oh yes it's worse than ever 14 trees at my last count lol

I guess 10 and craig guesses 9 🎄
Crazy number 😂 does she put one up in your workshop? 🤔 the tree is amazing 👏 very beautiful
OMG not yet and for goodness sake don't suggest it to her 😂
@@MikeHolton 🤣
Hi Mike. Nice wee job on the Xmas tree. I think I’ll give that one a go tonight. BTW - I reckon your wife has 6 trees up
@@stg6186 good luck and let me know how you get on. Way off with the guess, we now have 14 up :) thanks for watching.
13 trees 14 after this one
Spot on :)
My Mrs has 9 trees lol 😂
😂
You have 14! LOL...I waited until the end and heard you!
😂 that's either cheating or using your initiative. Thanks for watching. 😃
I didn’t guess 13 trees! I’ve heard in my house we need another one. The 9 foot tall one isn’t enough.
Haha, sounds like my house. My wife replaced out 8ft tree in the hallway with a 13ft tree this year!!
@@MikeHolton you can never be TOO festive.
@@Ted_P you sound like my wife :D
I think 14 trees
I think it was round there yes 😀
twelve
Good guess Kathy, very close indeed :)
Great work Mike.
I made one vaguely similar some years ago in our mens shed. I got told it looked like a sex toy! I didn’t bother with any more

7-10 trees because he has not said that she is done yet 🤔😂
Haha close, it was 13 😀
