Dear Mr. Mumford. This video popped up on my feed. I'm so glad. I live in Broward County. I read your book about "The King and You". Trying to make sense of life. Yes, we have to make the gospel make sense. There are so many people that seem to think the book of Job is about a man that didn't do anything wrong and suffered so much loss, but that's not it. That's not what the book is about. However, it is true that Job could not find anything that he did that might explain his loss of so much. However, let's try to make sense out of life, even during the difficult times. We can do this, by choosing the way that God has so clearly laid out for us. I know who it was that made the day of Job's birth. We all should know who that it. It was a good day too. Every day that God made in the beginning was a good day. Everything God made was good. Evil comes from disobedient mankind and whatever else visible or not that lives in disobedience to him. So it was a good day when Job was born. It was a day when an important minister was born, one who would grow up in the reverential fear of the Lord and who would receive the things of God and be transformed by them, so much so, that he would become a great witness to his city of the ways of God, and help his city navigate through things with the judgment, discernment, and justice of God, relieving the oppressed and delivering them out of the hands of the oppressor. (see Job 29) I suppose we could go a long way in this vein (see chapter 28) Lord willing, but all of this about the day of Job's birth being a good day is something that is true. It is correct and right to see the day of Job's birth as a good day, one that would issue in so much good fruit of God for his city as so many lives would be impacted for good and not for evil as a result of what happened on that day that he was born. That ministry Job had was no small thing to God. It was very valuable to him. Because of the long faithful walk Job had in the things of God through the reverential fear of the Lord, and how it changed him, and became something of his new nature, the Lord could speak so highly of him in the presence of Satan, not just once, but more, and he could also deal with anything he wanted to for correction in his life and the Lord can do that all day long. He can both speak highly of him and deal with things he wants to correct in his life at the same time. Yes, God can do that. Yet, who was it that spoke so highly of Job's birth to him and then asked him to repent of his ambitious way of selfishly cursing it? None of his 3 friends did that, did they, though they might have. If they did, I could wonder what sort of things might have suffered some loss through repentance. Would it be Selfish Ambition? Would Pride take a hit? Might Respectability be dealt a solid blow through repentance? How about Bitterness? God doesn't want us bitter, does he? How do we win in spiritual warfare? We do it by walking in the right way that God has laid out for us. What if Job would have heard a call to repent at that time from his friends but what if he would not hear it? Well, they might have been free to get back on their camels or whatever, and although Job might have wanted to die, they might have told him that they would plan on visiting him again in a year or two, right? Well, it might have gone that way, but it didn't. God doesn't give us books or stories to read just to depress us or confuse us. He does it to teach us, and in so doing it might also divide one thing from another.

Luke 8:10-13. Matthew 13:11-17. Most conflate the Kingdom of Heaven and Kingdom. Whoever believes in Jesus Christ may enter the Kingdom of Heaven and you must be a Disciple of Jesus Christ to enter the Kingdom of God.
Your comments about purpose are difficult to hear. I was raised up in an old line Pentecostal environment. It was inculcated into me from a young age, that any sense of interest, desire, preference, passion, or sense of purpose, were to be crucified and destroyed, so that I could truly take up my cross and live a crucified life for Christ. In fact, it was considered an act of rebellion against the kingdom, to allow for such things. This has over the years, destroyed my life. At age 69 now, I’m almost totally without hope. I remain devoted to Christ. But I feel like I’m a shell of the person I might’ve been. Nobody ever addresses this. Absolutely nobody. Can you please articulate clearly exactly what it means for a man to live a crucified life, to lay his life down, and it still be possible to have purpose? In short, what does it mean and what could it possibly not mean, to live a crucified life?
Roger, I am 67 and have been told by the Lord Jesus, in terms of ministry, that I am going to peak at 84. I am convinced that you have your whole life ahead of you too, beyond 84! I have been moved to share this with you. The crucified life is found in 1 John 3:16 "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." Whatever you do Roger, continue to lay down your life for the body of Christ - love and love and love them ..."love one another as I have loved you." Jesus A laid down life is a crucified life is one who cannot help himself but love the body of Christ ...even his enemies. To beyond 84 my dear and precious brother.
@@spencercourtis777 I appreciate your comments, I truly do. But I was taught that to lay my life down, I had to destroy every dream and hope and desire I had inside of me. This kept me from an education, preparation for a career, it even destroyed my marriage. Now I’m 69, I’m surviving below the poverty level, I’m without a wife, without children, without education, certainly without a career to look back on. Nothing but ashes. That’s all I see of the life I’ve lived. This has taken me to the edge of suicide several times in recent years. I find it interesting that some ministers will talk about God restoring everything that we’ve lost. There was nothing there to begin with. So there’s no hope of restoration. The only thing I know to do is to beg and plead with certain ministers, especially someone such as Bob Mumford, to bring clarity to this for the generations that are coming up behind me.
@@spencercourtis777 I had a specific and detailed response, that somehow has already been deleted. I do appreciate your response though. There are at least three specific things that typically occur with men such as myself - who have survived these things, when they get to their late 60s and beyond. First, it’s not unusual, and this happened to me, that I was diagnosed as clinically depressed. Some men will remain this way the remainder of their lives. Second, it’s typical for men in this situation to develop an addiction. That becomes yet another issue in their lives. Third, and this is the most tragic, some men in this condition attempt suicide, regrettably, some succeed in this attempt. I almost succumbed to this myself. I continue to battle with those thoughts, though. My hunch is that this is already at crisis proportions in the body of Christ, and absolutely nobody is paying any attention to this. Only now are certain therapists beginning to develop language to describe this condition. They usually refer to this as, ambiguous depression This is actually the clinical definition.
All I can add, is the goal is life; not death. Yes, lay down and have the old self crucified, but now we live as the New Creation, created in Christlikeness and for good works. Paul did say he was crucified with Christ, but then goes on to speak about the life HE now lived [in Christ]. We offer our bodies as LIVING sacrifices. Wanting to please God, do great things for his glory and find the "why" of our being called and created are not pride or rebellion; they are the response of the faithful. It sounds like you were hurt and mislead by bad religious teachings like I was.
I am 68 and I hear your heart, my dear brother. We lay down our own purpose for our lives and our own dreams for our lives. Yes, we put these things to the cross. But then we take up His purpose for our lives and His ‘dreams’ for our lives -as Bob references in Philippians 3 ‘that’ for which he took hold of us … and we make this our driving purpose, as Paul clearly did. Please be encouraged and do not lose heart -God can make you incredibly fruitful as you fulfil his purpose in the years to come.
This guy said nothing, all he did was string a bunch of emotional statements together. And sadly people fell for it because they weren't listening they were feeling.

(see Job 29)
I suppose we could go a long way in this vein (see chapter 28) Lord willing, but all of this about the day of Job's birth being a good day is something that is true.

The crucified life is found in 1 John 3:16 "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren."
Whatever you do Roger, continue to lay down your life for the body of Christ - love and love and love them ..."love one another as I have loved you." Jesus
A laid down life is a crucified life is one who cannot help himself but love the body of Christ ...even his enemies.
No scripture to back up what you are saying! Titus 1:9-13.
This guy said nothing, all he did was string a bunch of emotional statements together. And sadly people fell for it because they weren't listening they were feeling.
No, just no. 🤦🏻♀️
