Benji, you completely ate the wrong kebab. The real one is made from meat. There are two types of famous kebabs in Turkey. 1st-- Adana Kebap - (The spicy one) and 2nd-- Urfa Kebap - (the normal one.)
Let me know before you come back to Turkey. I can host you and taste together the best ones! but if you can't wait until Turkey, you can find great Turkish restaurants that make kebab both in the UK and Germany

To answer your kebap question, we first need to define what kebap is since it is different in Europe. If what you had ordered was chicken döner, then you should try the red meat version next time as that is the real deal. I can suggest a few good places for next time (for example "arzum döner" close to Akra hotel) 😄

Traditionally kebab originated in the Middle East, and was made with lamb, [sheep flesh]. As with everything in the world, invasive cultures introduced or created their variations with chicken, beef fish, shell-fish, and yes, even pork!

Lamb kebabs are the most typical so any Eastern Mediterranean person of most cultures will default to lamb IMO.

Great insights Benji. How prevalent are sticky bottles to get riders back. Very grey area I reckon. Mechanicals and crashes are part of the sport but miracle comebacks are most likely just cheating. Sometimes you get caught (Nibali) but most get away with it by the looks of it
I had my first kebab last summer. I was in a small town in BC, and the only thing open was a little kebab food truck. I can't believe I never had one before, so good!
