I used to make my own "sarlac pit" by taking the top of a shoe box and cutting out teeth in the middle of the box. For it's belly I would staple a plastic bag around the rims of the box. The figures would obviously then get eaten by the sarlac and fall into the bag. (Its belly) It actually worked out quite nicely. 😀
And of course I used any styrofoam I could get my hands on for Hoth scenes.

Nice! That was back when kids still used creativity in their play. Before smartphones had taken over the world.

Had Escape From Death Star. yep. heheh. Still have it actually. Two of them. One that we destroyed as kids and in the late 80’s I got another one that was complete cause of the nostalgia factor.
Still have our Hoth Ice Planet Advent Game that we had as kids. Somehow we didn’t destroy this one and have all the pieces still. I know we liked playing with those small Millennium Falcons. So I’m surprised we didn’t lose them all.
We also had that Battle at Sarlacc’s Pit Return of the Jedi Game. I remember having it for a long time and that we kept all the pieces, but I did get talked into trading it eventually. I traded it for a Kenner Imperial Shuttle, large size Kenner C-3PO and a Kenner Landspeeder plus some random pieces the guy had. I distinctly remember that trade because even at the time I thought I was getting the better end of the deal. He was just getting out of collecting toys and was focusing on collecting any and all board games of the time. Just goes to show, that a deals a good deal if you are the one that’s happy with it.

I didn't have none of these because they were before my time...💁‍♂️ I never really played many board games as a child, but I sure did like Monopoly whenever I got the chance to play it...💯✔

I got the Escape from the Death Star game back in 1978. My cousins and I would play it often and have fun. I still have this same game with all the pieces and in very good condition. Thank you for posting this video, it brought back a lot of great memories 😊

I need to know which figure was translated the worst from screen to toy...and why did Darth Vader wear a weird cloak with hood/lapels thing instead of a cape? It was like a really long wizard vest.

A friend had the Escape From The Death Star board game. The only one I had was the Battle at Sarlacc's Pit. I used the mini-diecast figures from my Micro Bespin Collection playsets with the Sarlacc game, so Lando made an appearance that way. I should dig out my Sarlacc game, I bet my micro-collection figures are still in that box.

My 4th grade teacher had the Escape From The Death Star game as a rainy day toy for us to play during recess. I remember going through it during a rainy day at recess, but didn't get around to playing it.

I had the Sarlacc game as a kid, but I mostly just played with it as a toy. (Same with the Pac-Man game, which had various plastic Pac-Men that could eat marbles.) I recognize the boxes for the first Ewok game you showed and the Yoda: The Jedi Master game. We must have bought those and only played them once or twice, because I only remember seeing the boxes around my parents' house.

I did use the Sarlaac put game for my action figures. It was in a smaller scale but it made sense to me when I was a kid..I also used to put a cup of water under the Sears Bespin cardboard playset. And then put the cup in the freezer and freeze my figures..I remember freezing them would loosen their joints over time..

I had the Sarlac Pit Return Of The Jedi game. The figures with it didn't look as pretty as they did on the box or in a tv commercial though. I think my oldest brother used to have the Escape From The Death Star board game.

Sarlacc Pitt bought at Lionel Playworld, always hated that the figures looked NOTHING like the pics on the back. Bought it again Brand New still in the wrapping and customized the Han and Luke.

i got one of these for Christmas in the late 70s - pretty sure it was Escape From Death Star
i always felt bad whenever my mom bought us something that should have been cool, but just wasn't
i feel like we tried to play it once or twice but just couldn't get into it or figure it out
on the other hand i DID complete my trash compactor scene puzzle and subsequently mount and frame it

Only had the Sarlacc game. It was fun. The Blow up the Death Star game is fun as well, but it needs a house rule or two to keep it from going on and on and on and on

I never heard of some of these games. I have the Escape and Destroy Death Star Games. I think Destroy was pretty complicated, having that turning Death Star, with Vader appearing around the edge, and then having to land directly on the destroy spot.
I don't suppose there's videos of people playing these games.
I also had Scooby Doo and Great Grape Ape games.

3:43 I had this one NUMEROUS TIMES here in the UK... Our board was slightly different but otherwise it was EXACTLY the same... I do remember that VERY copy I had I ended up getting from a Rummage / Jumble Sale - My Parents were not rich so getting it new was a pipe dream! (And anyway - They saved to get me the BEST Star Wars stuff they could at Christmas!!!)

I had Escape the Death Star as a kid....but it does not even come close to comparing to my Death Star World for the amount of fun I had with it...even when I played with them alone. I didn't have Attack the Death Star as a kid, but I sure wanted one....the first time I bought something on ebay was the game, and I still enjoy it....even added extra fighters and tie fighters from the Star War Armada series to make things more interesting. Battle at Sarlacc's Pit is the last toy I would ever get as a kid....and after I sold everything and I became an adult...I regretted it. I actually have two copies of Battle at Sarlacc's Pit....got both copies for a total of $25.00...one if in case something goes missing or gets damage....ironic because I've only played with it twice since I got it over fifteen years ago. But I'm a collector....so that doesn't matter. But even as a kid, I found the rest of the game concepts lacking....they looked boring. I like a game with clashing forces....I got the board game of Battlestar Glactica and I never played it because you were fighting against other good guys to capture as Cylon Raider....what was the point of that??? I wanted to fight Cylons, not other colonial vipers. One of the most expensive Star Wars board games to collect is Queen's Gambit...from The Phantom Menace. But the ultimate best is Star Wars Miniatures. It is the largest game, with characters from all generations of the Star War Universe, including the Expanded Universe. I bleed thousands of dollars into that series and I never completed it. The only thing bad about it was Wizards of the West Coast never made enough maps for it. They probably could have made a fortune on maps alone. The other problem was the limitation Lucas placed on the company....one being they required at least one miniature of Luke and Vader in every set they produced. So there were a lot of copies of characters, when some character were never made....

Hmm... I had none of these games (but some of them look pretty cool). I *DID* have games from the West End Games Star Wars line: their own Escape From the Death Star which was A LOT OF FUN (played that in college with some friends in 1989 -1991). There was also an Attack On Hoth game that was also a whole lot of fun. West End Games also made an Endor game - but that was a ONE player game if I recall correctly and not as fun.
Anyway, thought I would share my Star Wars board games experiences with you all. :)

I'm curious, however, because I'm in the UK yet got that game (as you say it was only in the US), but the more I think of it, the more I remember that my parents went to a toy fair as there was pretty much nothing Star Wars related in the shops at that time and I was obsessed with it. So it's possible they picked up a US import version of the game. I'd have to check to see if it was released by Palitoy (the UK distributor of all things Star Wars) or Kenner. They got me the official inflatable Lightsabre too - which definitely wasn't available at that time - and four of the 12" Kenner dolls. I've only Luke left now as I had to sell a large portion of my collection when I was in Uni. Got seriously ripped-off too. Still smarts.

What was even worse was the Qbert board game from 1983. Still my favorite arcade classic but like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, those three didn't translate well as a board game.

I had Yoda The Jedi Master bored...I mean, board game. I actually like board games, but this one was pretty bad. I only played it a couple of times, and it just got tossed in a box somewhere and eventually got ruined over time. Ah, memories. It feels like they could have tried a little harder with the development of the board games, as much effort as they put into every other product they put on the market.

I remember being so excited with my new "Escape from the Death Star" game that Christmas long, long ago. I was going to be able to recreate the wonder of helping my fellow rebels evade the clutches of the evil Empire...
Then I opened it and found that it was just bits of cardboard with crappy photos stuck to it and was a variation on the old Hare and Hounds game. DISAPPOINTED!!!
Still have it though, boxed and in near perfect hiber.. sorry, I mean condition. I think I played it only once and it's been stored in the attic ever since.

I found a copy of Escape from the Deathstar from the thrift store for 3.00. I knew it was lame, I've played it in 77'. It had 4 vintage black and white Star Wars photographs which made it worth it. All these old games are LAME!. A good modern Star Wars game is Star Wars Rebellion.
