Denmark and Argentina were the best teams in the world in the early 90s. Argentina were World Cup Runners-up in 1990, Copa America winners in 1991 and 1993 and defending champions of this same tournament (Confederations Cup) in 1992. From 1990 - 1993 Argentina also had the world record winning streak of 34 official matches unbeaten. Denmark were European Champions in 1992 and won this tournament in 1995 - incidentally playing the final against Argentina as you can see in this video. Denmark and Argentina also played the Intercontinental Trophy - Copa Artemio Franchi (Champions of Europe Vs Champions of South America) in 1993 with Argentina winning on that occasion in another close encounter 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

No, Michael Laudrup did not attend the Euros in 1992 when Denmark won, only his brother Brian. Michael hated the Danish Coach, Richard Møller Nielsen, so he boycotted the Euros in 1992 (I bet he regret it so much after they won).

I remember clearly before that cup, there were critics that Denmark was not being skill full enough to represent EU, by the so called experts. They thought it was pure luck that they won EU championship. They actually speculated on replacing Denmark.
Quite funny, Do not know if that was tactic or they genuine meant that.
Tactic: alway best as the underdog.
Then they won the cup over Argentina

yeah, Argentina was embarrassed with losing that final, so later they got a friendly rematch in Argentina.
Which I believe(Well it was long time ago) the Danes lost that 1-0. Argentinian players are very strong on man to man situation, but they could not take the ball from Brian on his rush on the sides. Brian was way more tough than Michael.
The Argentinians were impressed, in fact Maradona called Brian one of the 3 world best player that could run and dribble with the ball.

Well do not believe there is, for that you got to look in The archives of the Danish Televisions and the newspapers of 1994. in time where Internet were telephone modems. For what ever that is worth,
that is how I recall it, you pay attentions to such statement from a player like Maradona.
