Cherie this is so true, we have been learning Korean for a while and prob know so much but confidence is key. I thought about this the other day. The only way we can build it up is to get used to failing I think. We gotta make more mistakes and make more opportunities to use the language even though it’s scary.

Definitely doing is key. The more you speak, the more comfortable you become.

I understand completely. I took Japanese in a college class that went really fast. There were students who were Korean and could practice with each other. I can learn but it was the conversation part that was hardest in class. Like learning at home writing and reading is one thing and getting a tutor was good. I could see you were really thinking and I know it will get so much better or easier when speaking. It's no wonder that when you speak it applies and Japanese students want to practice English here in Los Angeles!!! I enjoy your videos so much. 🌞🙏💕

It's not just the kids. It's worldwide. This winter people' cold have been lasting much longer than pre-Co9 time.
I love your comedic moments, how you express things with humour.
I thought that we might have been at the same level of Korean before you started at SNU. But, you have surpassed me, as I predicted you would. Congratulations for your efforts. When I am in Korea, I make a point to talk with people, out of the ordinary, because back in my country, I can only find Koreans at the grocery store.
About edm' method...That is how I study, with a software I made myself, (not for sale) it has the words in both languages and a picture which I can turn on-off at will during blitzes. The only drawback about using pictures is dealing with people without an internal monologue. Last time I was at Kyobo, I bought a series of Word Master books.I think experienced teachers recognize the faces we make 🤪 when we make a mistake and realizing it, so they don't interrupt us all the time.🙂
About SNU's method, how much of the News do you understand? For me it's about 10% and when watching the news then images and videos will help me to get to 30% maybe. I lack the vocabulary I suspect is actually taught at SNU. I wonder...
Remember Cherie, we are supposed to embarrass ourselves when learning another language. Enjoy the journey!

omg this is so surreal! i remember finding you about 6 or 7 years ago back when you were still at chungang university! i asked a ton of questions about korean universities and you were so kind answering me back :) i eventually did end up studying at a korean language program for 1 year (and then returned to america partially because of covid and partially due to other reasons)
i totally agree about what you were saying about language programs teaching to topik because after 1 whole year, i was always just so stressed out about knowing all the grammar and vocab that my speaking suffered so much
i definitely went through the same thing like i was lacking soooo much confidence (plus i'm an introvert with social anxiety and i was literally always the only english speaker in my classes so i had trouble making friends) that even though i was level 5 in korean, i spoke like i was still level 2
honestly the biggest factor in me returning to the states after originally wanting to get a bachelors degree in korea was how the education system was structured, but i also really just had no confidence in myself back then lol

안녕하세요 (did a Google search for hello lol)
Loved this video, Cherie! I only speak English, but I can imagine talking in a non-native language can feel very daunting and scary. Years ago, when I worked in retail, I learned a few Spanish phrases to do transactions with customers who didn't speak English. I felt so embarrassed and timid and not confident all. Then, when they would giggle, it made me feel worse. I think you did a great job and powered through your insecurity from speaking in Korean. Your teacher sounded nice by her tone, and then later, you said she was, so that was good. I think you're doing a great job with Korean and getting more conversational, and you appear to have some confidence. Keep up the great work!! 👍🏻👍🏻✌🏻😉

외우 is hard for me too. I can relate to everything in this video. I assume you mean both the word 외우 and the process of doing it. Clearly you “know” 외우 but it’s just a funny sounding word (where are the consonants?? Foreign language words need consonants 😂) Anyway, since I have the same problem with this I’m going to use it on iTalki. Intentionally. This word is too common to give me trouble. Intentionally using words or grammar works but you can only do it for a couple words at a time. Which explains why language learning is so slow. But it works. I was having trouble using the ㄴ적이 있어요 pattern but after I forced myself to use it many times it’s totally fine now. It’s stupid useful so it’s easy to insert into any conversation. (You might hear advice that if you use it once in a real conversation you won't forget it. Not true for me. I need to do it several times)
