  • This was a fun episode making the sliding deadman for my OzzyOcker woodworking workbench build. I chose a spectacular piece of Spotted Gum to use as the deadman.

      I recommend the low Roman workbench. When you are not using it, you can keep everything in a box and use the bench as a sitting bench. Use tiny roubo style legs that are parallel to the table edge, and procedures can be done with regular clamps instead of a vise. Make the slab first, and you can use it as a surface to make the legs. Needs only (Chisel, plane, saw, glue, wood, drill optional)

    Sexy deadman mate. You probably considered it but I like the fact that I can remove my deadman when not needed or in the way (happens occasionally). I made the front shoulder a bit lower and shortened the tenon so you can lift it in and out over the bottom rail. Still has plenty of meat on the tenon to keep it secure.

    • @kuffyswoodwork
      @kuffyswoodwork  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't consider having to remove the Deadman. The Deadman is something I will probably use once or twice a year because I have dog holes in the front apron rail. I just couldn't bring myself not to include the cool looking Deadman 🤣

    I've been at work for two weeks without TH-cam, so catching up.It's looking great. You have to smile at the little 'Bugs'. Like you I have carbide blades on my Jointer, Thicknesser. And yes you hear the hard work and cringe at what it is doing to the blad edges. Those little buggers eat it for breakfast. maybe they have titanium teeth. I hope to get my bench top laminated this time home

    You show the deadman but don't explain what a deadman does?

    • @kuffyswoodwork
      @kuffyswoodwork  ปีที่แล้ว

      True. I was showing how to build the deadman as part of the overall workbench build. The deadman is used to support longer and wider boards or timber slabs. A peg is placed in the deadman holes, and the board or slab rests upon that peg.
