Islamic society, once highly vibrant, innovative and progressive, led the world in virtually all branches of human activity for 550 years. It was Arab scientific and literary influence that penetrated into European renaissance through Sicily and Spain. European scholars freely gathered into the Spanish Arab universities of Cordova and Granada, the most important among them being Pope Silvester II (1000 A.D.) who learnt Arabic numerals in Spain and replaced the old clumsy Roman figures
History testifies that both the education i.e. Islamic and modern were integrated. Subjects like chemistry, physics, medicine, surgery, astronomy, philosophy were taught along with Fiqah, Hadis, Tafsir, Mantiq and Usul. Ulema of those days were either an astronomer or a physicist, chemist or mathematician, medical practitioner, surgeon, or a litterateur (adib)
Suddenly in the thirteenth century it started descending and thus gradually declined and degenerated.
There is now an urgent need to launch fresh programs to revive the legacy of those glorious days under new paradigms. KORDOBA is the humble begining to acheive that goal.
