      Yeah me too. I’m not paying more than $500 on a console unless it’s super rare and collectible. If I want a powerful gaming machine that’s more than $500, I might as well get a gaming PC and it’d be as powerful or WAY more powerful than a PS5.

    I really want to see Sony go all in on backwards compatibility. They have a PS1 emulator that plays 99% of the ps1 library that has been used in the pd2 slim model 2, all ps3, psp, and psvita. We know they could do PS2. While PS3 would be more difficult they could most definitely do it but it might be more like the Xbox approach where they have to modify the emulator on a game by game basis which might prevent the full library.

      PS3 should be easy for them. My computer is weaker than the PS5 and I'm playing plenty of PS3 games at locked framerates and higher resolutions than the PS3. If a bunch of randoms on the internet can do it then the muti-billion dollar company with full knowledge of the system can.

    For most of my gaming life I've primarily been a console gamer, however with the recent trends of companies trying to exploit us, Sony anti consumer practices, huge patches for supposedly physical games I actually think pc is a better choice then consoles, specially if you buy from gog. Think about it, they're usually cheaper, you don't get charged for online, cloud saves are free and if and when a game is all patched up you can just save it to a bluerey disc and you now have a more complete version of a game in a physical form plus also digital. Granted this is kinda only possible with gog and drm free games.

      I still like Console though, it's just easier to manage what with incompatibilities, Win11 sapping performance and such, Steam is a start where you can get like 95% of games you like but inevitably something (like Shenmue 3) will pop up on epic games store or game pass that you like... I like that all console games use one interface. Particularly with current consoles it's kinda going back to the old days where with one quick click your into your game no fuss. PC is close, and in a perfect environment where you may have to do without half or more of PC games, you can still have nearly the perfect experience, but to me console still has it, mostly cuz I'm lazy and probably ADD and will inevitably want that Shenmue 3 only available on Epic Game Store etc. I'd just rather not go through that heartbreak lol.

    At age 40 I got my first ever day one console. Crazy enough it was the PS5. Its been mostly a positive year with it. For me learning a new system and what it has to offer along with seeing the differences has and is still one of my favorite aspects of new systems. Hate things being the same. Gets old.

  • @VanderJamesHum

    I think the fact Sony made a distinctly new console makes it more exciting to the casual audience. Its the new "Playstation", it automatically markets itself. If they did the cellphone model it would reduce hype considerably i reckon. If they can re-create the feeling of going from PS1 to PS2 every time, they can ride out success until Playstation 3000

Beating myself up cuz on launch day I saw PS5 (disc edition) on Amazon for like half an hour just debating on if I should get it (my credit was maxed esp than so a half a grand purchase really wasn't possible...). 23:35 I wouldn't ignore those things because it was Japanese devs themselves that first started saying those things. Examples are how even devs in Japan got forced to turn in all documentation for games in English instead of Japanese. Another thing would be Sony saying it would censor certain games from now on and this is after those same type of games had been released on Sony hardware for years. Now yes, Sony has a history of censoring stuff all the way back to the PS1, there is an interview with Kojima in which he says how annoyed he was when Sony people told him to censor some parts of Policenauts on the PS1. Sony also censored games like Xenosaga 1 and Drakengard on the PS2 but this was always done when a game was released outside of Japan. What Japanese devs are saying is that after the move to California even games in Japan got censored. Just google PlayStation god rays censoring and laugh at all the memes, there was a big backlash when DMC5 got censored in America and Sony had to update the game and take away the God rays, funny thing the PC port and the Xbox One version was uncensored on release. Made me remember the days of the SNES when MK was censored but then Sega released the uncensored version on the Genesis. To tell the truth I am extremely biased on this subject because I cannot stand puritans since I grew up in an insane religious family.

    I've had one since April and love it - I have a massive PS4 backlog that I parked when I knew I was getting a PS5. The only PS5 games I have are Demon's Souls, Returnal, Doom Eternal and Dirt 5. I know it's not your thing, but aside from the controller, Returnal is the reason to own a PS5. It's such a mega game and a serious troll move at Nintendo since it's essentially Metroid. And God of War at 60fps is how it was intended and gives it such a boost. Kratos is nowhere near as cumbersome to control as on PS4. I have a Switch and a Series S and the Series S doesn't even get switched on and tbh if it wasn't for my XBLA library I don't know what the point of owning it is.

  • @STP.83

    Great words, especially the last few minutes in the video. I own the PS5 and the Xbox Series X, both with disc drive, because I still want to have the choice. And I love both of this systems. I love the PS5 controller, the coming PSVR2, the exclusive games... And I love the Xbox ecosystem and the Gamepass.
    One one side I like to have physical versions of games for to collect, share, resell or just have it to be a physical gift under the Christmas tree,
    On the other side I understand "digital only" is very more practical and makes sense for me. Not different from music, movies and series. Step by step you can play all the retro games on cheap China consoles also, without needing a mountain of cartridges and discs in your room.

    Love the story about consoles and your mom. I think everyone that loves this hobby started like that, my case in particular, my parents separated when I was a kid, so mom took charge of me, she bought me all the consoles from NES to PS2, so I can relate a lot.
    Now as for the PS5, I bought it a few months ago, more driven for the fear of not finding one later, but after finishing demon’s souls I haven’t played anything else on it 😕 it’s very disappointing that it doesn’t have exclusive games that I’m interested, I think, if Sony doesn’t get a good exclusive or fighting game soon, I won’t turn the PS5 on until 2023 when Wolverine or Spider-Man 2 launches. All my 3rd party games I’ll be playing on Xbox because they run better there.

      Exactly. If you just give every game a PC version, then there’s literally no reason to buy consoles ever again. Some people may be cool with that, and that’s fine, but like Adam said, it’s what makes consoles special, the games they only make for that one machine.

    I thought the way you described the triggers was strange. Like, it's 100% different between games between different actions. You'll get more resistance on your finger in certain games and other ones like anything where you shoot a gun, they'll add a sort of click feeling, like you're pulling a trigger. It's immersive on a level where I can hardly believe it. Ratchet and Clank use it amazingly, where you pull the trigger to perform an action and if you pull past the "click" it'll activate a secondary ability. It's not on every game and I really wish it was more widely supported, but when it's there its so nice.

    Its really unfortunate, I was really interested in the PS5 until i heard about the CMOS Battery issue. It looks like a great console, but i just can't get over it being useless when PSN goes down. Its the same reason i've given up on the PS4 and I liked that library quite a bit. I just don't want to sink Money into a console that will lock me out of physical games. That kinda defeats the purpose of the console for me. I think that i'm gonna go PC soon as the line has been too blurred between console and PC. The PS5 & PS4 kinda defeat the charm of a console with the CMOS battery issue and the Xbox brand has been basically internet reliant since the XBONE.
    Might become one of those people who stick with Nintendo and go PC from now on.
    Too bad really, i've been a console guy because of physical forever.

      @@Xavious061 it was a software problem, fixed via software. the code was set ups that if it couldn't connect to servers to see what time it really was to not run games. to stop hackers. windows 11 won't work on most pcs due to needing tpm, which most pcs dont have that and. bunch of games require you connect to internet too. these companies are always going be more worried about their profits then us. but its fixed. the software is no longer programed to stop games from being played.

    I'm glad Playstation exclusives are coming out on PC. I just played through God Of War with a PS5 controller, ultra graphics settings, and running at native 4K over 100fps on my 82inch QLED 120Hz TV with variable refresh rate. It was simply incredible! Much respect for the team over at Santa Monica Studio. I had a PS4 but I can't play games at 30fps anymore. (For the past few years I've been spoiled by much superior hardware). The strange times in the console space over the past several years made me switch over to PC. The way I see it, the consoles are now more PC-like than ever, so I might as well choose my own hardware.

  • @marciopinho6100

    I do understand the exclusives, they are the system sellers. In my Sega Saturn days, I always wanted Gran Turismo or any Final Fantasy that came out to the Playstation. Nowadays...I don't need any. Final Fantasy titles always ended up on the PC and I finally own Forza Horizon 4...on PC...Damn I even own and already finished Horizon Zero Dawn, a game that I never expected to have...ever...and let me tell you...that game is amazing...Some people even say that Gran Turismo 7 may appear on PC as well.. There aren't that big racing games on Steam, so this would be great news for me. I think that Sony saw how it can profit from the PC gaming market and how much gamers wanted their exclusives. For me this is great but for PS fans I can see how mad they are.

    Thanks Adam - fantastic analysis as usual from you. :)
    I'm still rooting for Sony. Grew up with Nintendo in the 80s and then skipped a gen (tho I was one of the weird American kids with an Amiga 500) - then I inherited a PS1 in college and that was that until now. I was hooked. No interest in the Xbox I have a good PC now. Nintendo and Sony it is.
    If I don't get fired on Jan 4th next year I'll probably splurge for a PS5 and get Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. One of my favorite series of all time next to Yakuza. Take care and much respect man :>

    The sad thing about physical copies nowadays is that they are incomplete and you still need to download patches and updates without which the game would be crippled. While I do appreciate physical copies as material AND independently transferrable keys to games, all that still hurts preservation and is less safe in case of any kind of accidents on the accont of the platform holder, the game licensor, or one's ISP if you find yourself in a need to reinstall the games from scratch, or your hard drive dies, down the road.
    That said, PS5 looks awesome! For someone who missed the 7th gen and deliberately skipped the 8th one, this one finally means business. I would say, it's not the best PS4 out there, it's THE PS4, as actual PS4s are, well, less then ideal in terms of performance.

      @Mogura87 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At the end of the day, barring much higher involvement in the preservation of games on the part of the IP holders, publishers etc., the only real preservation possible will always entail "pirated" digital copies of the most complete version of a game. You can surface original disks or just play backups of them while you keep the optical drives operational for years on end, but at some point what will remain as a practical solution is only the most up to date pirated version of the game stored on a hard drive on a PC, an ODE storage solution, or installed on the original console with custom firmware. I don't think that's so bad, honestly. As long as you do what you can, within your means, to support the games you like while they're commercially relevant, I don't think anyone can ask more from you.

    Unfortunately, the digital vs. physical argument has sailed. Some games have as little as 1 GB on the disc. If in some future date the servers aren’t there to give you the rest of the game when you go to install it off the disc, are you any better off? The number of situations where having a disc is a benefit continue to dwindle.

I hope they continue to make them unique cause as cool as the series X is....it is the same....like the same feeling as the one X or S. Controller is almost the exact same as last time. I'm one of the few that doesn't care for the new features in the controller. I would most likely disable anything I could if the game was playable that way. I either run rumble on the light side or usually just have it fully disabled on my x. Out of those games, demon souls is the only one that had any interest to me. But I already played and beat it. I like it but not enough to play it again. If it would have been bloodborne, yeah I probably would have.
    I'm hoping for some really good new IPs on both consoles. Continuing old games is ok but the gold loses it's polish after so long. My hype for the new halo or god of war is at 0 honestly. I never had a problem with a game not or no longer be exclusive to a console. Always seen it as ridiculous with game companies shooting themselves in the foot locking a title to one piece of hardware. Plenty of gamers that have a good pc still game on their playstation or xbox more. I have a friend like that and if he likes a multiplat title enough, he buys it on all of them.

    I would argue Xbox did set some trends over the generations that aren't gamepass. MS was the one to set the bar for online gaming. They also were the ones that pushed consoles into the multimedia box territory. You could argue Sony did that as well with their 'It only does everything' marketing campaign for the PS3 but I feel like MS again set the bar for that concept going forward.

    • @thatssomegoodpie
      @thatssomegoodpie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdamKoralik It's one of those cases where yes they 'technically' were the first ones to create the model yet they didn't do it in any impactful way. It's like giving Panasonic credit for developing the pointer tech that's inside the wiimote with their CDI Peacekeeper gun. How many people do you know that actually used the Sega Net service or the Online on Dreamcast? You can probably count those people on one hand as well as the games that actually used it in any meaningful way. Not to mention the Dreamcast used parts of MS's tech to make it even possible. Xbox set the standard for online and made Xbox live a juggernaut of a service with tons of features that Sony and Nintendo are now copying with PS Network and Nintendo Online. Around the time Halo and Halo 2 launched is when online gaming truly became a mainstream thing even though yes you can credit the original DOOM, Quake and other precursors for it as well. I would argue MS has been innovating and pushing the industry forward from the very beginning in terms of services and how we approach gaming from an online context. It just hasn't been as noticable. Sega crawled so MS could walk and eventually run. That's how I see it.

    I don’t have a ps5 yet, but I think the reason why I like the switch, is because it feels more traditional to older consoles than the 8th and 9th gen. A lot of carts I have, have the full game on the cartridge or only require tiny updates. I don't think Sony copies Nintendo or Microsoft. They had PSNow before GamePass. Sony had PS Plus many years before Microsoft's Games with Gold, existed. People also though Microsoft came up with Smart Delivery. Better known as Cross-Buy. When I powered up my PS4, for the first time, I had 29 free games waiting for me in the library, because I bought the PS3 or Vita versions.
    And PS Move.. Surely that is copying Kinnect.. Wrong. It's using Eye Toy technology, which also predates the Wii. Sony Move is simply the Eye Toy, with detectable, tactile wands. Microsoft ripped off the EyeToy, and Nintendo ripped off, both the Eye Toy, along with Philips CD-i AirMouse tech, which uses a sensor bar. Philips sued Nintendo and won.

    • @videogameobsession
      @videogameobsession 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdamKoralik In a way, but no, not exactly.
      Sony surely didn't copy Nintendo. Sony had the technology long before Nintendo released the Wii. Check out the old PS2 EyeToy tech videos. Richard Marks clearly shows how it's PS2 camera is clearly tracking a stick with a glowing pink ball. He called it a "Wand". It did 1:1 tracking, years before the Wii was released. Sony ditched the Wand and released it with basic hand/motion tracking instead. They soon realized it was a problem when people used it with poor lighting. The glowing wand was brought back, along with built-in gyro controls. They do have buttons, but no directional input. They are more or less just glowing beacons for the camera to judge 3D space. I.E. EyeToy technology. If anything, the add-on Navigator controllers are more like the Wii Remote (with Dpad + buttons). The Move controllers are also far more accurate than the original Wii Remotes, able to judge motion and rotation in all six axis. Nintendo would later try to make theirs on par by adding the Wii Remote Plus add one, and fully replacement controllers.
