    Great video clears alot of things up with these reviews people saying your done for if battery dies they can't be ridden like a normal bike and yes for these emtbs not just hub, I got my new emtb yesterday and it went just fine while battery was outcharging just spun the crank round to see if it was locked up but yeah alot of confusion there with magnetic hub motors people thinking and saying these are the same

    I often ride with the motor off on the flat sections, that way my ancient-bike buddies can keep up. But uphill, it's assist everytime. I see no reason to penalize myself for their stubbornness.
    As for the workout... This is the most fit I've ever been.
    Be well, be safe and enjoy the ride.

      Assisted bikes actually also go a long way back. I dont think climbing without an engine is stubborn, its only stubborn to ebike uphill with the motor off; as the main reason to use the ebike is the need of extra help and wattage on the climbs anyway. I agree on staying safe and having fun tho. Cheers.

      Are your buddies not swapping their ancient bikes because of their stubbornness, even if they have rhe financial resources?
      Or are they not swapping to ebikes because they can't afford to?

    • @tehalexy
      @tehalexy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "stubbornness" you're sitting on a very high horse lol.
      a e-bike that fits my needs would be 6000€+
      a usual mtb was just ~ 3000€
      so i took the usual mtb.
      for 6000 i could buy a used enduro ( the motorcycle enduros ). not going to spend so much on a bike :D

    • @eBikerHowie
      @eBikerHowie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm going to stay with "stubborn". All of my riding friends have $6000 to $8000 acoustic bikes. They can easily afford an ebike. They just don't understand, or choose not to appreciate, what an ebike can do for them.
      I like to explore new terrain and trails. Some may go up and some may go down, but all take more time, energy, or speed, then my friends can afford.
      After an hour and a half of hard riding, their legs are cooked and the ride is over. Then I go off and ride, by myself, for another two or three hours.
      Also, waiting at the top of every climb, for what seems like forever, is incredibly frustrating for the other ebikers in the group.
      It's just something I have to live with for the time being.

    When I bought my emtb, I did so on the basis of the least resistance from the motor. At that time it was the Yamaha. Most people will only ride with the motor off is when the battery runs out. In my case that probably means after about 70km by which time my legs are pretty tired anyway so it really feels like riding through treacle.

    • @johnchristopher5075
      @johnchristopher5075 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Snap! The motor resistance from my Giant/ Yamaha motor is bad at the best of time, when the motor is turned off but God forbid if you’re on a long ride and the battery runs out of juice (which happened to me after a 53 miles) and you’re still four miles from home. Whether you’re peddling through porridge (over the 15.5mph limit) or pushing through setting concrete ( battery run out of juice), it’s always gonna be painful.

    • @johndarch5439
      @johndarch5439 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnchristopher5075 I did a lot of research on motors three years ago and at that time the Yamaha came out best on having least resistance! The motor on my Haibike is good, on several occasions I have got on the bike and not noticed that I had forgotten to turn the motor on until I hit a gradient! The one thing I have learnt is not to depend on the last 10% of the battery as it goes in no time.

    When I bought ebike I thought it would be terrible to ride it without the assist but I was pleasantly surprised that it is not as hard as I expected. On the flats I spent lot of time above the 25km/h limit, I can even push it to 30km/h and sustain that speed for much longer than I ever expected. But on the climbs it is a different story of course, it is really hard. But also I almost never use middle assist mode, 99.9% of the time I'm in eco, which is just perfect amount of assist for me. This test was interesting but that route was too short for significant difference. If the ride was 1 hour long or even 50 km long difference would grow significantly. But on the other hand who would be crazy to ride such a long ride on heavy ebike without the assist, only maybe if you totally miscalculated the range or motor died :)

    I’ve been riding my Turbo Kenevo battery out for the past week, and to be honest it feels very similar to my DH bike, gearing far better, and climbs almost as good as my Enduro. And the bike park it’s even nicer to play with.
    700w battery out = 4Kg weight gain bringing the bike around 20kgs so it actually works

    • @johnabbott4485
      @johnabbott4485 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CharlieLesPaul All I did is unscrew the plastic cover from the battery, it's easy to pull out the thin rocking bolt. Then all I did was use packing tape to hold it on and to hold the power connector in. I've been riding it like this for about 2 weeks, and the tape came off easy and doesn't leave sticky residue... Kinda simple. Mostly the reason for this is that I sent my battery to my next destination and still wanted to ride the bike until I left, and it worked out great.

    I have ridden the first climb at Llandegla in Wales (it's about 5km relatively gentle gradient, about 3% average) with the motor off as I was with 2 other people on standard MtBs and I ride much more than them so it sort of evened out the effort. Motor was on for the rest of the day though :-). I am riding a Cube Stereo with the Bosch CX performance Line Motor.
    I have also had a couple of motor error faults where the motor has switched itself off, fortunately this was on downhill sections and a reset prior to any climbs sorted that out.

    Nice test, though like others, I would have liked to see it without the deadweight of the battery. I don't have an eMB, just a folding fat tire that I ride on MBT's about twice a week. Tire drag is the main killer, but once you get going it's not as bad. I never turn the system off, just turn assist off when riding with others.
    Never had a breakdown in 5000 miles, so I never had a reason to ride with no power at all. About 150 watts just compensates for the extra weight and rolling resistance, and doesn't give me any advantage, but extra power is certainly there if I need it!

Mainly flat terrain (there being a lack of mountains in East Anglia), and only really noticed it going up a grassy hill. However as some commentators have stated lo lose the battery power at the end of a long ride would undoubtedly be a real drag! :)

      Not much, because battery can preserve kinetic energy (moving with bike) when need go up the small humps, roots or off the puddle. Bigger difference will be at uphill trails. But when trail starts/ends at same height, this not really matters.
      Try Yourself - fit 6kg cargo to Your bike frame and do test at flat tarmac road, gravel, trail next do the same without.
      More resist is from electric motor transmission., as far we know no transmission is 100% frictionless.

    I wondered if my Turbo Levo had motor drag too. I tested it on our local mountain in San Diego called Rockhouse. It took 35 min with no motor. I was so excited to see that either, I was more fit to push this bike or the motor resistance wasn't a big deal. The weight of my large Levo with rohloff hub and accessories is 53 lbs.
    Before I got my E-Bike, I timed my climb on my 26" Turner XCE with rohloff hub. I took 35 min to do it in the summer. It weights about 33 lbs. 20 lbs difference.

    1. Getting the bigger 620w battery
    2. Getting a large frame size with 29" wheels.
    The bike weighs 27kg! Its a big boy to push around unassisted. It fits me perfect at 6 ft 3" but still. Less metal = less weight. I could have had a taller seat post instead and saved some weight =D

      I've got the e ride 930, too. Mine is medium, but I'm 5' 9", and suits me. I accepted that it would be heavy, but once I'm on the move, I don't notice the weight. As for the battery, I also have the 620w, and although I rarely run it flat the extra capacity encourages me to ride further than I would on my old bike with a 500w. The one thing I don't like, is how awkward it is when wheeling it around in the garage, or leaning against something - it always wants to slide along and fall over. Overall, I do love it - I'd probably be sitting on the sofa now if I'd kept my old non - ebike.

    Ummm why use times at all for this comparison? Especially over such short little runs. (Actually the cynic in me suspects exactly why you use times and over such tiny runs)
    Why not use power? That is what matters, how much extra effort the rider must put in to lug all that extra dead weight. Either try to keep the power the same and compare times or go for fastest time and see how different the riders output was. "Perceived Effort" can go suck a bucket of D's for all it's worth :o) All your BPM tells me is that you are fit and that should come as a surprise to no one.
    Even with such small runs rather then "seconds faster" it might have been better to express the deficit as a percentage. No one goes out for a 10 min ride at a park then calls it a day. The 33 seconds difference sounds pretty tame but when you also realize that's half a minuet per lap lugging almost 7 kilos extra that ADDS up REAL fast over a days worth of riding. Your liner extrapolation of 3.5mins over an hour raises an eye brow very curious as to how you came to that figure. People don't predictably discharge like batteries, if that was the case you would never have to worry about "bonking" as you would feel it coming long before it hit you.
    Go out there and shred for an hour, run your "experiment" in real world conditions on one bike gathering your important data. Rest up and do it all again on the other bike being sure to record power.

    Was the battery fully charged or empty, surely if the battery was full the bike will weigh more than if it was empty? 🤯

    You had a water bottle on the E-Bike, but didn't on the acoustic. Test immediately invalid.

    To me this was a pointless exercise…. Yes keep the motor of on the flat sections and downhill if need be but use the motor on the climbs as exactly what it’s designed for 🤷‍♂️

    You can't how ever you try make pedalling an ebike with the motor off sound like it's not that bad...
    It's ruddy horrendous !!!
    Unless you have an expensive super light eeb you are simply just going to damage your lungs by over inflating them and causing unnecessary shredding of your leg muscles.
    For the general population who still ride mid priced full fat heavyweights, the difference between your bossnut and you lifeless E-Tank is going to massive.
    You would say probably, don't dilly dally and get yourselves a superlight eeb....
    I would say, don't forget your multi tool and spare battery.
    Lol

    get yourself some good fitness and you'll see you don't need a motor to ride a mountain bike. not to mention the health benefits. no impact on the environment and of course being one with nature. It aren't that hard mate! look at your heart rate on these tests you got a good workout, now turn on the motor, not much of a work out, I get it you want to eat your burger and ride a mountain bike but dude it aren't that hard, no motor required. unless of course you have a disability or are old I get that.
