My boy was 10 when he started. By 12 he was hitting left side during mop up duty. Carried it into high school. Hes a SR now and will sign with Clemson tomorrow. My reason for having him switch hit at an early age was to set him apart from other catchers. He hit 4hr’s from the left side and 1 rocket ship right handed his JR year. State Champ or bust this year.

I've taught myself how to switch hit. I am a eighth batter, and have been trying to perfect my lefty swing for about 2 years. I am so close to getting it.

I think you guys need to do a review the 2023 bbcor axe bats. Both normal and flared knobs. I’m a huge fan of axe bats and I’ve used one since I was playing tball. I just need to know which one is better for me to get. Love the vids!

Facts, you just start switching if there is a good reason behind it, I start because I felt really weird facing righty vs righty so I just start swinging from the opposite side of the plate, around 11 or 12 years old still playing at 24y trying to get back at switching but shoulder injury make it little bit difficult lol
I'm a natural righty, my dad had me start switch hitting early. Hitting lefty for me brought me out of slumps, made me focus on mechanics and see the ball.
I wouldnt suggest doing so unless you can fly.
Yall are near the house I grew up in! Hope you enjoy my home state (and home town). Starting young is the key to learning it.

Great video Will, thanks! I recently started doing additional tee work lefty to see if it makes sense to switch hit again (haven't since my early 20s). In the local 40+ summer leagues I face 90% RHP but I do quite well. In tournaments its more like 70% RHP.

Mickey mantle is the King of Switch Hitters. I tried to do switch hitting back when i played. Chipper Jones is a great inspiration for switch hitting. I couldn't hit bombs from the left so i decided to learn left handed slap hitting like ichiro and fastpitch girls. It worked for a little but once guys started to know me, it started to work against me. Decided to stick to the right side and go for nukes and power shots down the line
Man, i miss playing. I make bats now so i get to use em, but the thrill of the game, can never replicate

I started as lefty so a bit easier for in game switch hitting but I was late starting at 14 but I’m pretty good at it now
Could you do a video where you swing a 5 or 10 pound sledgehammer for a bit before picking up a bat and taking some hacks? For research purposes, to see if it has an effect on exit velo or hand speed? I’ve always wondered if bat speed/batted ball speed could be measured after swinging a heavy bat.
We used to swing an 8 pound sledgehammer on deck and I swear it made us hit harder and get around on fast pitches much easier.

That 13 year old is really good, nice swing from both sides. He hits bombs for his age, I’d like to see him featured in the future once he gets a little older and see him hitting 500 footers.

I'm a natural left-handed hitter even though I throw right-handed and switch hit until about 13 years old. I hit right-handed a handful of times against really nasty lefties with low arm slots in HS, never once in college but mess around with it to this day if I go to the cages. I handled LHP OK unless they were throwing sliders from behind me, so in hindsight it probably wasn't worth the maintenance for the occasional right-handed at-bat when it really mattered anyway.
I'm a Cardinals fan and I always wonder when I watch Edman and Carlson who have way more pop from the right side if it's really worth the platoon advantage for them to hit lefty against RHP especially when a righty vs righty matchup isn't typically as brutal as lefty-lefty.

I’m 14, I’ve been switch hitting a lot since about 10 years old but have never been fully commited to it. Any advice on how to commit into using it in games and just overall being comfortable with it?

My son is almost 8, natural righty but has only swung lefty since he first picked up a bat to copy his brother. Hes an average sized kid for his age - 4'3 and 60 pounds and swings a 28/18 normally. Just started working on right handed off the tee with a 26/13 teeball bat. On "off" days he normally hits 30-40 off the tee lefty with a heavy bat and 20-30 side toss. Now we added in 30-40 off the tee with the light bat righty and 5-10 side toss. He was the one who wanted to start doing it (I was fine with him never switch hitting), so we will see where it goes. His "reason" to want to start? His former teammate started hitting lefty in workouts with the goal to switch hit. My son got irritated that he was copying him (he wasn't) since he was the only natural righty to hit lefty on his old team. So I don't know if its a 7 year old being spiteful or whatever, but his goal is now to be a "better righty and lefty hitter" than his old teammate is by the time his 9. I'm not one to stifle his competitive nature

To clarify: if you’re interested in switch hitting, start practicing it while you’re young, and decide later on in your career if it’s something you want/need to do full-time.
Love the vid. But I have a question for anybody who has info on it, I have never swung a end loaded bat in the 3 years that I’ve been playing. But I am 6’4 240 pounds, so I was wondering if I should make the switch to end loaded to get more power or to stick to balanced? Anything helps

@@ekaj-_-2158 If you want a 2-piece I would recommend either The Goods(medium heavy), the Victus Nox(medium heavy), or the Select Power(heavy). Probably a 33''. If you want a 1-piece I would recommend the Stinger Nuke (heavy), The Goods One Piece(medium heavy), or the new Louisville Atlas(balanced). All great bats but if you want to use a 34'' I'd probably go with a voodoo one.
