Comparing Luka to Harden is WILDLY disrespectful. Harden is a legendary choke artist in the playoffs. Luka is already amongst all time greats in the playoffs from production to clutch moments. He needs to play better defense, sure, but that’s where the comparison ends. It’s not even close.

You have to watch the games not the box score. Missed assist is not counted in the stats. I hav3 watched games in the 4th quarter and the team looks like they are shooting at the basket with a lid on it. Luka game is still the same it just the team is better around in putting the ball in the basket.

There are some truths that will NEVER be placed in the media for protection of the subject matter or brand as they say. Jordan, most everyone's G.O.A.T. had a problem that led to his "retirement" after winning a 3 peat of championships. Jordan says he was tired. The NBA by all accounts, was behind this brief "retirement".....NO ONE SAW THAT COMING. We won't know the truth but life is built of parallels and is circular meaning human behavior repeats itself through different individuals. So I do not believe the comment is speculation. It aligns with truths of human nature. To dismiss it as speculation is captive thinking. Some truths make no sense. Just have to be accepted.

In 10 years, you're not looking back at 1 chip and saying, "yeah I'm glad we got rid of our home grown generational star for that." The reason the 2011 one was so special with Dirk was specifically because it was Dirk. He was drafted there, won MVPs there, had heartbreaks there, and then finally broke through.
Being a fan isn't just about winning chips, it's about the journey. Here, the journey is cheapened with this trade. You've built your team around 2 teamhoppers (AD and Kyrie) who are at the twilight of their careers. The Lakers had Kobe. Cavs had Kyrie and LeBron. Celtics had Tatum and Brown (and they had Pierce and Rondo for that 2008 one). Raptors had Lowry. Nuggets had Joker, Murray, MPJ. Bucks had Giannis and Middleton. The Heat had Wade. The Warriors had Klay, Steph, and Draymond. That's why those chips felt so fun for those franchises... they were with centerpiece guys who were drafted there. This will feel as empty as that Bubble Championship... ok cool, just a group of mercenaries who all want a chip, have no history with the team, and will be gone in 3 years.

Did Harden lead his team to a Finals at age 25? I must be crazy cause I don't remember that happening. I remember KD and Russ leading OKC to the Finals and Harden having a terrible series. I also remember Corey Brewer and Josh Smith saving Harden from a historic choke vs the Clippers in 2015. That's Harden by age 25.
Luka hangs 30 PPG on excellent efficiency on virtually everyone. Put Kawhi and PG on him in their primes. Put Dort on him. Put everyone from the Wolves on him. Even the Celtics had to live with 27PPG on 47% shooting and they were loaded defensively.

As things stand right now, we don't know if Luka's career will be more Larry Bird or Carmelo Anthony. Will his career be more like Magic or will it be like Grant Hill? Allen Iverson made the Finals once and is a legend, but he's not top 5 all time. The Lakers demand championships. If Luka goes 3 years without winning the title, people will start calling for him to be traded.

Luka is a great talent, but has been criticized for years about his habits & conditioning. Add to that that he throws tantrums on the court and is a cone & major liability on defense. As special as he is offensively, its hard to trust him with 340 million. The Mavs getting demolished by Boston last year and his injury this year helped to prove that.

Yet still, Luka Doncic as an INDIVIDUAL PLAYER has accomplished greater feats than Kobe did in his first 6 seasons. Luka was First Team at 20 and Kobe was not All-NBA First until he was 23. Luka had as many First Team selections as Steph has had in his career in the number of year it took Steph to earn his first selection. Had Luka had a Shaquille O’Neal in Dallas, he would’ve won championships already without question. Luka has as much talent and killer instinct as Kobe Bryant, far less work ethic (because rarely anyone ever comes closer).

I think the Mavs overestimate how good this roster is without Luka. That's just the truth. They've been spoiled by having a guy you could just hand the ball to and that can go get buckets against even the most elite defenses in the playoffs. Even in his "down" series vs the Celtics, the man scored 27 PPG on 47% shooting. I get his defense needs work, but even with that, he led the Finals in steals among all players. He was one of the top rebounders too. I just don't think he was the reason they lost. They faced a far superior team, and they got exposed. Thing is, there's no shame in that... the Celtics won 64 games and ran through EVERYBODY. They'd been knocking on the door to win a chip for like 5 years lol.
Imo, the Mavs lost this trade as soon as it happened. They're not winning a chip with this roster. Even if Luka falls off, they still failed to shop him around to maximize what you could get for him. We'll never know what teams would've offered for him. Instead, they've hitched their wagon to AD (will be 32 next month, and was injured 3 of the past 4 seasons), Kyrie (will be 33 next month, and has been injured pretty much every season since turning 25), and Klay (age 34 and decimated by the Achilles). By doing this, the Mavs have shortened their championship window to 2 years, not just cause of the ages of Kyrie and AD, but also because Kyrie may not ever re-sign with the Mavs. He strikes me as the kind of guy to take this move by the Mavs personally considering he re-signed with them for 3 years under the reasonable impression he'd be playing with Luka.

Superstars are running from team to team focusing on their own benefits and here you had someone that actually wanted to stay loyal to the club, the fans and the town, but got dumped anyway.
