  • There has been an electronic revolution in television news. It has affected the way news is gathered, presented and edited.
"Horizon" follows BBCtv news teams at home and abroad for just one day, to see how the new technology works: in the studio with Sue Lawley; at the White House with Tim Sebastian ; in the newsroom with the editors. How is the new technology changing the news you see on your screen? When Tuesday 22 March started, it looked like being an ordinary newsday. It didn't turn out that way.

I’m so pleased to see Barry Meadows - I used to answer the phone to him when he rang BH and our FDE was busy.

38:43 - this man runs past the newsroom studio cut out window, where the news summaries were done from and from October 1988 would be revamped to become the Nine O'Clock News set

Good old BASYS! It was quite old when I joined the BBC in 94, but it was much quicker than the first iteration of ENPS. Cmd+Pack, anyone?

37:25 - And here we see N1, the studio home to the Six O'Clock News, it was smaller than N2, but it certainly did it's job well since it opened in 1969.

15:25 - the TV screen next to the news anchor was changed within the first two years of the One O'Clock News being on air. The original TV screen was much small. This was one seen here was the new addition installed.

At 8:40 we get to see Studio N3 in the BBC newsroom. This studio was built in 1986 to be the daytime news summaries. Come autumn 1988 the studio area was extended to make a new newsroom studio for the revamped 9pm news from Halloween 1988.

I have memories of a lot more bad language than I heard here...!

There was surprisingly little in the Radio newsroom by contrast I always noticed. Generally more an air of calm even in a crisis in BH❤
