- Always the first stop on any trip to London, Kirby Allison is back at Davidoff of London! Whilst visiting good friends and owners Edward and Eddie Sahakian, Kirby had the good fortune to spend some time with cigar expert Max Foulkes.
Max and his father Nick Foulkes, a well-known author, historian, and connoisseur of fine tobacco, began their own youtube channel during lockdown, and amidst the mass of entertaining content and interesting anecdotes, was sections from Max referring to his search for unusual & unpopular cigars.
So in today's video Kirby lets Max take him on a tour of the famous Davidoff of London humidor to discover some of these lesser known gems.

From US, and always wanted to go to Davidoff in London and Max helped me out. I am new to cigar smoking so he really took his time with me and gave me many recommendations. He was very down to earth I felt and genuine. His service was what sold me to the point where I purchased a dunhill tobacco pouch as well.

I went there myself recently. Max wasn't there unfortunately, but I was served by a very kind Cuban gentlemen. The funny part is after he found out I spoke French he started speaking it with me. So here I was in a humidor in England, being helped by a Cuban man, in French 😂

Max, like his father (and yourself Kirby) has impeccable taste. The SCDLH El Principe is one of my personal favourites too and in my opinion, one of the most versatile Havana cigars out there. Definitely worth grabbing a few boxes.

I landed on that San Cristobal Principe as a great breakfast/lunch cigar. The only trouble I had was the construction was slightly loose sometimes. Great flavors though.

Hey, love this concept, i started smoking cigars i thought looked and smelled good, and the two first boxes i bought was cuaba, this little one and the salomones ( which is a beoutiful Cigar, best enjoyed by the sea i think ) i put many away for aging, but all my collection got stolen just last year unfortunatly, so i have not been able to get new ones, but i hope the day comes soon. Best reguards from Norway!
Just an observation Kirby, but I’ve noticed over the last few weeks that your walk has improved greatly. Also, cigar smoking here in Chiang Mai doesn’t incumber the same stigma as in the West.
This is an old video that was on his regular channel just after covid I believe.

El Príncipe has been a stick I’ve been meaning to try for a while 👌
I've found them to have a fairly tight draw unfortunately and they have a spicy, cedar flavour profile. Not recommended.

Tobacco should be taxed higher to get people to quit smoking!
Maybe cigarettes but not cigars or pipe tobacco. MORE people should smoke cigars and pipe tobacco rather than cigarettes.
Cigarettes are junk but cigars and pipe tobacco are very classy and should be enjoyed by most. However, the smoking age should increase to 25.
While we're at it we should tax spinach and all other fun!
Let's see (and I'm coming from the perspective of a non-smoker... never smoked in my life)...
We had to all but ban cigarettes and all tobacco because it would cause cancer (though apparently only in some people). Taxes were put on them at exorbitant rates by governments deciding they know better than you. After all - taxing something makes it less dangerous (or is it just a money grab?). Second hand smoke was a killer (cue screams).
BUT - they legalize marijuana. It is a FACT (whether you like it or not - facts have zero to do with your feelings) - smoking marijuana produces all the same risks smoking tobacco. You are still sucking in burnt residues, and so, suffer the same lung problems.
Marijuana increases heart rates. Marijuana use by pregnant women can cause developmental problems during and after birth. It can cause certain types of mental illnesses. It slows mental capabilities. It causes unreasonable thought processes.
And what do you think the second hand smoke from marijuana is doing?
Marijuana produces many more societal issues that tobacco ever did.
In the late 19th and early 20th century a large percentage of people smoked - and the country was very productive... we invented airplanes, cars, appliances, telephones, etc..
Today, more people use marijuana in the United States than tobacco - and it is now one of the most unproductive, lazy societies.
I'm not that old, but I can remember when tobacco commercials were routine on TV (like the cowboys smoking - but still never became a smoker). I could still go places without smelling tobacco smoke.
Today - I can't go anywhere without smelling marijuana - AND it smells like a skunk self-immolating after rolling around in its own dung.
None of these cigars are truly obscure. The average Cuban cigar smoker knows of these.

I do not know why cigar bars exist in the first place! Even though cigar smoke is not inhaled, it still causes health problems, including cancer, emphysema, and COPD.
Also, I do not know why people glamorize cigar smoking as cool and luxurious! What is so cool and luxurious of a product that smells gross and causes health problems?
