Wonderful to hear these singers. Kenneth Collins was an absolute favorite when i was attending performances at ENO as a schoolboy. Linda Esther Gray was glorious - i knew one of her primary school music teachers May Purdy ( herself a soprano of no mean accomplishment) she spoke of her with pride. Joyce Blackham and Paul Hudson very fine. The team at BBC Northern and Sir John Pritchard exemplarary.
I'll be honest, Joyce Blackham is a voice that has passed me by before I saw her excellently written obit. in the Telegraph and sad to say, there is very little of her on TH-cam. But what would be the chance of a working class Rotherham lass becoming a leading operatic soprano today?
i loved Joyce Blackham and met her in the late 1960s at Cardiff when she did a very big breasted Carmen. One of them almost fell out during the final confrontation with Don Jose. Married to Peter Glossop at the time I think.
The great Ken Collins, a wonderful tenor and a fine and generous human being. May he rest in peace.

Good to hear Joyce Blackham again.
