March. Sunshine after a very wet winter. A quickish tour of the garden. Not a rose to be seen.

Lovely nik and looked a fantastic day where you are. I see some great structures of your pruned roses there, lovely and shaped. My queen of Sweden was similar to yours but I was ruthless with mine, will see how it does come June.

Thanks Jay Jay! Yes, a really fine afternoon, but we had thick fog until about 11 a.m. and then a heavy shower at about 5 p.m., so just a brief glimpse of the garden at its (slightly neglected) best. Because of the claggy clay I'm still putting off trying to dig a new rosebed at the top of the lawn, but these new bare roots need somewhere to go. Let's see whose QoS pruning technique (or in my case lack of pruning) pays off in the summer!

@@nikkonch 100 percent your roses look pruned into a great shape mate im sure yours will do better. Queen of Sweden is very busy but see how it goes. Mine, 2,3 or 4 years old I stripped back trying to get that base platform to work from in future years. But I had to leave a little taller than I would have liked in case the rabbits return. With just 3 or 4 short stems if the rabbits strike there won’t be anything left at all! But we can only wait and see how it goes now :)

What a treat for us rose lovers. You and Ken in the same week! It's lovely seeing our gardens springing back to life after all the bad weather. Mine is so waterlogged and my foot came out of my wellie twice on Sunday! Bit worried about my Eustacia as there's no sign of buds or leaves. I'm hoping it's going to pull through. Yours are doing great as are all your roses. Can't wait to see everything in bloom.

A very kind comment as usual from you Wendy. Yes, it's difficult gardening in a quagmire, isn't it? I'm more of a fair-weather dry and warm gardener, so the wet clay on a cold day is an unwelcome challenge. It is a bit worrying that your Eustacia is not showing anything, but fingers crossed. If it doesn't make it you could maybe contact David Austin to see if they would consider a replacement? One of my new bare roots, Starlight Symphony, arrived with three tall stems, so I thought it was fine, but so far nothing has appeared on the stems, but three new stems are just beginning to form at the base.

I wish I had a green house like you Nik, my cuttings would have stood a better chance. Your roses have been prune to perfection. My head is little dizzy after watching your tour, so much too see in such a short tour 😊

As you saw on the min/max thermometer, Ken, the greenhouse still gets below freezing, but the roses are spared the winds, ice and snow, and on a sunny day they benefit from the extra heat of being under glass. My first rose last year was in there at the beginning of April, a Desdemona bare root. Pruned to perfection? Well, thank you, I'll take the compliment, but I'm not so sure. I thought with no roses to show I shouldn't linger too long on bare stems, but in the summer I will definitely be lingering!
