Atom Heart Mother is definitely one that the general public paid little attention to. And probably the record company: "I don't hear a single!" Devoted fans still enjoy blissing-out on the Floyd of this period.

@@martinm1231 Yes we wouldn't want that. There are some good remixes and bad ones. The remix of Obscured By Clouds from the Early Years set was horrible. Way too crispy. The latest Animals mix was very well done in my opinion. I've always felt Atom Heart Mother was poorly mixed and a bit dull sounding. It could benefit from some tasteful polishing.

I was in high school ('87 for me) when I first heard this album, and though I didn't really get it or even like it that much, I listened to it more often than I thought I might. Over the years, this album for me went from the bottom tier of PF albums to one of my favorites. (Still, "Summer '68" has been one of my all-time favorite PF songs from the first I heard this album.) I really appreciate your systematic, thoughtful approach to these songs, and I compliment you on your natural teaching ability!

As a lifelong Pink Floyd fan, I truly enjoy and appreciate these kinds of reactions and reviews. This album in particular has been one of my favorites for a good portion of my life and I love that you were so blown away by it! On the topic of looping, as you had mentioned a few times with songs (Pink Floyd were really great at doing this), a neat feature of the Atom Heart Mother vinyl is that it actually falls into a continuous loop at the end of Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast, playing the sound of the faucet drip essentially forever - until you manually stop the record yourself.

Hi Crystal 😊🔮 I received your notification of your reaction and analysis of Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother side two at work today and yet alas there just isn't enough time on my short 20 minute breaks. I'm heading home now waiting for the bus in downtown San Antonio Texas and I will listen to the entire album then I will listen to your reaction and analysis of side one and then I will listen to your reaction and analysis of side two. I am truly excited about delving into some more Pink Floyd as we get a transcendental journey by being whisked into another universe... such a life-changing experience. Until then... Continue prayers for you.... Getting good rest when needed... Being so sweet Just As You are... Being so brilliant As You are... And as always... Take it easy 😊💜🌅🌄🔮🎃🦇🖤🕸️🕷️🍬🍭🤲🕯️💪❤️💐🙏👍🌹

Hi Crystal 😊🔮 Good morning to you😊🌅🌄 I'm off the next 3 days so I have a little more time to write. Pink Floyd gets me to thinking and I tend to write a little bit more. As always wonderfully brilliant reaction and analysis of the whole Pink Floyd Adam Heart Mother album. Today you finished side number two and the album itself and yet I went back and listen to your reaction analysis of side one so we have the complete picture. The most important aspect of this is watching you react and analyze to music of our time and you have done such a wonderful job on a first listen basis. You dissect the meaning as it relates to you and your perspective. Of course, there is the explanation that the creators have and yet art is interpretive so each and every person going forward can discover the compositions as they're played and the meaning becomes clear to that particular person. In the case of this particular album, almost all of it is instrumental. The first three songs on side two have lyrics and that does help with the interpretation. Careful listening to the suites on side one and side two, you can pick up on the sections that have been titled and through interpretation you are drawn into the atmosphere of each section. I, myself, listening to the full album all at once, mapped out the sections and timings to recognize the flow from one movement into the next. It is remarkable how such attention to detail was given to each section to imagine exactly what the title was. In the case of Father's Shout, I could tell by the the bassiness of the instruments that this was the Father's voice. On side two, in the section called Rise and Shine, I interpret that drip as possibly a coffee pot since it is breakfast time... in Sunny Side Up the sound I'm getting is eggs frying in the frying pan. I believe the intention is to put on the record... get into a comfortable position and listen and allow the music to flow... penetrate ...encompass and just enjoy the whole experience as they paint the picture in your mind. Indeed music is to invoke emotion and thinking and pondering and you get all that from Pink Floyd. In doing my research I found that Mr Waters and Mr Gilmour did not like this album. Well, I guess when you make a statement like that after the fact and after the compositions that they produced later, I guess their statements are valid from a creative standpoint. However, to The Listener I agree with you it is underrated and it does have its place in the Pink Floyd catalog. Even though it is one of their earlier works, it is still no less important and outstanding. Both you and I could go on and on about Pink Floyd in the fact that their music is an experience and it does whisk you away into another universe in which they have created and transport you to a place, for a while, of many different emotions and thoughts. Then, returning to the present in a way that you have gained knowledge to carry on. I look forward to our next adventure of your reaction and analysis as we move closer and closer to Halloween. I know I suggested Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road earlier and I would like to table that for now... still would like a reaction and analysis from you about that album and I would like to suggest in the spirit of the season the band The Misfits and their album, their first album, Walk Among Us. Here's the complete listing of their albums...
    Studio albums
    Walk Among Us (1982)
    Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983)
    Static Age (1996)
    American Psycho (1997)
    Famous Monsters (1999)
    Project 1950 (2003)
    The Devil's Rain (2011)

Continued prayers for good health, satisfaction, stamina, strength, endurance, peace, happiness, joy, contentment, solace, attention to detail, order and overall just you knowing that you do make a difference... Thank you for being you. Have a great day... With good rest when needed... With great humor and wit which makes you so charming... With the knowledge that you are truly loved... And as always... Take it easy 😊🔮👍💪❤️💐🙏🌹🤲🕯️🍭🍬🕷️🕸️🖤🦇🎃🌄🌅💜

Crystal, your reactions are just unique in your depth of feeling and as well skillful articulation, bubbling over at every twist and turn in the music - love it so much!
AHM is definitely underrated... to make a point: although I know all of their albums forward and backward, and I know what they achieved in the 70s, throwing on brilliant album after the other at us, this one is still in my top-3...
...makes me wonder what you might think about their album 'More', a soundtrack published a year before this one... its a bit scattered surely, but I find it hauntingly interesting and beautiful - its the one album that most raters put in the last position of all PF albums... but I love it. Of course it helps to see the movie as well, and understand what the young generation at the time went through - both, the movie and the album, capture that time in our human evolution during the last century perfectly, in my opinion... 💖

When I was in 8th grade I discovered The Doors, listened to only them for several months until I found out there was a genre called "classic rock." I was listening to a classic rock radio station with my friend who knew about old music through his mom. "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" was playing and I liked it, I asked who the group was and he answered Pink Floyd. I said, "Wait a minute ... aren't they heavy metal?" He laughed at me and said, "They're about as heavy metal as the Grateful Dead." I was confused, "wait ... aren't they also heavy metal?" He just laughed at me. Anyway, when I went to the music store Atom Heart Mother was the first Pink Floyd CD I bought. I think it was because I liked the cow.

Fat Old Sun, is still my favorite from the album. As someone else said, "If" is by Roger Waters, "Summer 68" is by Rick Wright, "Fat Old Sun" is by David Gilmour.
A year earlier, they did something similar with the album Ummagumma, and again, Gilmour's section is my favorite.

A little context for "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast": Around the time they were making this album and the next one (" Meddle"), they had an idea for making an album of music completely made with sounds of ordinary things. So with this one, it's mostly the sound of one of their roadies making/eating breakfast and cleaning up, and stems from this temporary idea.
