    One of the greatest gymnasts of all time. Tbh I think she was robbed of the AA gold in Barcelona ‘92

    You pointed out many of the things I admire about her. Sometimes she was just impossibly perfect. Her back roll to handstand on beam was breathtaking and
    when she did two in a row I just gasped at her control and precision . NICE .

    One of the greatest American gymnasts ever. National, World, and Olympic Champion. She had the difficulty, she had extremely clean execution, artistry, musicality, and she had mental game like no other during this time. Her Miller on beam is still iconic and she has some of the best hop fulls on bars I've ever seen. Her 92 AA vault will forever be the most perfect piece of gymnastics ever. ❤❤❤

    Thank you for this. I was a club gymnast in England in the 90s, and I was 15 when Shannon competed in BCN. I spent the summer of 92 watching and rewinding my VHS tape of the All Around recorded from the TV! After a whole summer watching every minute detail, it was clear to me that she was the best gymnast there. Still don’t understand why her first vault in AA didn’t get a 10. I’ve always thought she was such a special gymnast. Thanks for giving her gymnastics this analysis! All the best

    I have a question. Why does it seem like such a big deal for gymnasts today to do a dismount from the beam that is a full twisting double back tuck? Shannon and other gymnasts were doing it just as a normal dismount way back then (almost 30 years ago).

    Shannon is one of my favs. She was the queen of hiding corrections, especially under the previous code. This code, however, would have eaten her alive. But she most likely would have adjusted to it considering her perfectionism. She was a gorgeous gymnast with excellent musicality on the floor (Floor is where I really decide if I like a gymnast lol).

    • @OLYMPIANTEACHES-bh6gp
      @OLYMPIANTEACHES-bh6gp  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @OLYMPIANTEACHES-bh6gp
      @OLYMPIANTEACHES-bh6gp  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Yes, this goes back generations to the power house Elena Shushanova. There are definable power houses like Kim Zmeskal or shawn Johnson and there are more definable elegants like Nastia Liukin or Svetlana Bokinskaya. Different body types with different strengths and styles. All great but very different in their approach to their gymnastics. They can both be powerful and elegant but their styles and approach are obviously different.

      It's just surprising that you'd praise a 90s US WAG's slenderness when they were trained in an abusive system that fueled eating disorders. It's no secret that the Karolyi's severely restricted access to food at The Ranch.
      Those caloric restrictions not only contributed to physical and psychological injuries, they were also exploited by Larry Nassar. He gave gymnasts food behind the Karolyi's backs to win the trust of young girls.
      I totally understand that different body types lead to different styles of gymnastics. I also understand that there are slender gymnasts who don't have overly restrictive diets. In a different context, your comment would be nearly innocuous. IMO, this context matters immensely.
      Case in point: Vanessa Atler.💔
      In truth, it wasn't necessary to mention body type at all. Posture, extension, relevé, flexibility, fluidity, balance, and agility are all so much more important. Those are the things that make Shannon one of the all-time greats. Those same attributes are why Suni Lee and Melanie MJDS are sometimes just as elegant as Shannon with different body types.
      A person I love was driven to anorexia by a coach who believed that you had to be underweight to succeed in gymnastics. I sincerely hope that people like her never come across this video. For my own mental health, I'm unsubscribing and turning reply updates off. Feel free to tell me I'm "overreacting" because I won't see it.

    • @KalenaSnoopy
      @KalenaSnoopy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@karyon1007 Shannon didn't have Karolyi as a coach. She had her own natural body type and was not abused nor starved, nor was she a victim of Nassar. Correct assessment of USA Gymnastics previously, but posted in the wrong context
