Love seeing you burn through those clamps with some practical advice for low precision parts. Not every bracket needs a 4 part video, you just get it done and move on! thanks-

I know those clamps as Hillbilly Clamps. Used them many times.
And yes, gravity gets stronger as you get older.
Especially when you are trying to get yourself up off the floor.

If you feel like you are getting "Old and Flabby"; wait until 10-15 years forward when you will actually be "Older and Flabbier". I am thankful to be healthy 79 years old. I stay in shape by lifting a coffee cup and a donut on a regular basis. I enjoyed you video yesterday on the steam engine crank shaft. Good work solving the issue.

Coil your cable in loops like you would an extension cord and then tywrap to your sliders perpendicular to your guide line. This method allows the loops to open and close without strain on the conductors.
Edit: Emulate a coil spring with your cable.

Hey Josh, looks great. I know its a bit more work and money but replace that section of cable with actual festoon cable will really make an improvement.

You know you're getting old when I heard you start the Bridgeport up and thought " yup that's a step pulley , it's too quiet to be a Varidrive . We switched ours over to freq drives years ago . Was kinda scary at first , wasn't used to being able to hear myself think . Lol .

I have a overheard crane similar to that in the shop where I work now. I really wish It had that power trolley feature. There is nothing more aggravating than getting close with a part and having to bump on the chains of the crane to line up your work. I hope you enjoy it sir. Save your back, you only get one.

You mentioned that it sucks getting old. I was watching a movie with Danny de Veto in it and at the start of the movie he said just that. After an incredible adventure, he said that growing old is a privilege. Unfortunately, time goes so quickly these days! You've got a few years to catch up on me, I'm already retired.

Nice job on the Catenary, maybe some small weights on the lower loops to assist the cable route.
    Great video thanks for sharing

  • @wilsonlaidlaw
    @wilsonlaidlaw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Josh, you could use lead slugs to weight the cable between each runner/support so that it hangs nicely in loops.

A guillotine and a mill made the job easy. I would have used an angle grinder and a bench drill press and the stepped part would have been two pieces of steel. Having the equipment saves time and improves the accuracy.

Your power cable should be in loops before you attach it to the wire……………..the feed wire need to be about 3 times the span.

  • @stevecallachor1

It’s fortunate that your trolley is powered, otherwise , under heavy load, the gantry could rack sideways if the trolley were dragged sideways in cautiously. Such a gantry needs lateral bracing since folk are often blind to danger. The fact that it can be bought in kit form, by any bozo, also is a danger. In life, that you can do, buy, build any structure……doesn’t mean you should!!

Putting a ladder on stuff that is not the ground shouldn't be done. Not saying the horizontal mill isn't stable enough, but the bed has a limited area, and thus if the ladder moves sideways, one leg could easily fall off.
A large ladder would be better. Even better to have a basket for your forklift, if you can remote control the fork height. Because you can't easily fall out of a basket, and you can bring all your tools up there without having to fumble around in the air.
