Of course theres a difference. And yes it's a noticeable difference. You are essentially shinning a light on your wall. And even in new construction you will see blemishes on the wall, not in all scenes. Why buy a projector if u don't use a screen? Even a cheap screen is better then a plain wall. Try it yourself and see.

I’m amazed how this superbly organized and presented demonstration has elicited pretty much the same reaction from other commenters. This video hits the sweet spot for so many home theater buffs that want this simple question answered: between a bare white wall and a cheap screen, is there any appreciable difference in the image quality that would justify spending any kind of money on one? Of course, different use cases may justify having a screen where you actually need one, and ALR is a whole different category where the quality differences wouldn’t even be a close call. The viewer leaves the video gratified for having watched it because it uncannily answers everything you were curious about, as if the presenter was reading your mind. Good stuff. Extra kudos for posting not only time-stamped subtopic chapters, but also a pinned transcript of it all! Very nicely produced YT video.

I purchased the new Benq HT2060 LED DLP projector that can accept 4k signals and downrez's to 1080p, but maintains the HDR metadata intact. I had some ppl tell me you need to get a screen to see the difference, but just like you've shown here, I projected the image into a large wall that was painted light tan with a glossy finish, and bumpy surface. Fed 4K Bluray of Titanic and Nope and I was shocked to see how sharp and filmic the images looked and didn't notice the bumps on my wall. I thought, first, didn't need to get a 4k projector since I have an 4k OLED, second, I didn't need a screen since I've researching to get one.

I bought a PVC material used for photography backdrops that works really well with my projector. The colors look bright and vibrant. It was cheap too, about 20 dollars. The only problem I had was finding a way to hang it up. It was too heavy for tape. It kept falling down. I had to make a frame for it. Thanks for the video!

Good video for me thanks. I realise that this was a year ago and you may have altered your opinion in some respects but it still shows me that, for the time being at least, I will use the wall. Maybe I will investigate repainting the wall with a reasonably priced suitable paint. I don't mean the special projection paint as that is too expensive and I want to experiment with cheap options first. I just bought a screen, and it definitely helps the experience. It was a little brighter and smoothed out the image more than the rough texture of the wall. What made it more worth it is the owner on the screen only wanted $50 for it. It's a 94 inch by 110 inch with a good quality screen that costs way more than $50

Thanks for the video. I use a plain white wall painted in satin white. It's not special projector paint, just decorator paint. I always wondered how much of an improvement a pop-up screen or a wall mounted screen would be. Personally, I would prefer not to have a screen, and I certainly wouldn't want a frame on my wall. When not watching my projector, my wall is just a normal wall. My projector is a Xgimi Horizon Pro 4K, and my projection image size is 109 inches, so for me after watching this I have determined no screen required.

I was thinking about building a projector screen since I can't find one at an affordable price that is close to 75 inches tall and 110 inches wide. Our projector is so powerful that I feel like we don't need one and it would only be for looks.

WOw. You are so right, when you turned off the lights, I was also shocked at how good the white wall looked. There was no difference to the screen.
Yes and screen is 10cm closer to projector it needs to be more birght 😊 but seems equal to me
Green walls works fine too. THE KEY IS TO GET GLOSSY WALLS. i
@@cinnamonstar808glossy? Everybody says that the paint has to be matt. Are you sure?
Of course theres a difference. And yes it's a noticeable difference. You are essentially shinning a light on your wall. And even in new construction you will see blemishes on the wall, not in all scenes. Why buy a projector if u don't use a screen? Even a cheap screen is better then a plain wall. Try it yourself and see.

I like how you meticulously go over the comparison and explain it. This is very good stuff keep the good work.
I was also surprised when my projector showed perfectly on my cream water painted wall. Informative video
Good stuff.

I just bought a screen, and it definitely helps the experience. It was a little brighter and smoothed out the image more than the rough texture of the wall.

Very good
@@MrFurnica10 th-cam.com/video/TFSo9TIMVTc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yIKr5oZ9a_tBfm3P video shows comparison of good Screen and standard screen
You can tell the screen is slightly better than the wall in the colours,
More contrast 😊.
it is closer 10cm more than wall 😉 dont forget about this
Is it only good on a white wall or would most lighter colours be ok?
if you go gray color tones it wont effect your color grade only effect your contrast your blacks will be darker and also you'll be loosing your whites little bit. For darker colors you need brighter projectors . in the future maybe I can create tutorial for that. if you have very light colors that wont effect too much but many professional projector models have calibrations for that and you can adjust to your wall color to get best as possible.
Thank you so much
This is very helpful 👏

Loved your video❤.
I'm thinking of getting a egate O9 pro Zen projector for my bedroom. I have a plain white wall as my room is just renovated. Maybe later on I'll get a screen but for like 6 months to 1 year can I get a nice viewing expereince in the white wall? Any suggestions? I am a newbie in the projector world. This will be my first projector so I need some help

Great comparison. Telling it like it is. Btw, my last screen was made from 9mm-thick MDF hung over an imperfect wall.
I have lot of comparison like th-cam.com/video/uWflZ_NJfPo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=KtSQKpAO9ytqSrKd I recommend with professional ALR screen logn and short throw comparison or Projecting to different papers th-cam.com/video/FtqWYr_29jI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=sy6zJDbcxWUivp9m hope to see your comments in upcoming videos

I really enjoyed your video it’s very informative.
Can you please review the Epson EF-12 projector and the ViewSonic X11-4K? I’d especially appreciate a review of the SonicView X11-4K because there are extremely few reviews of the projector either in video or written form. Thank you for your time.
Well it is always good to ask for a free review to get good opinion before purchase but since my channel is small big brands dont send their products for review yet and buying these projectors is expensive and I currently have Epson TW7000 ( 4K Cinema Projector ) Xiaomi 4K Lazer UST and couple FullHD models little bit of full . Viewsonic has a good speaker as far as I know and I want to review these models hopefully in future . Hello! New follower here! Really appreciate your very thorough comparison and explanation. I am currently considering to put a projector that shoots towards my ceiling above my bed. I have recently come across a certain type of paint products called projector screen paint. They are supposed to make the final texture of your wall similar to that of a projection screen. An example brand is Paint On Screen. Do you think you can give us a review on this? Maybe compare the difference in finish between a screen painted wall vs a normal oil/water-based painted wall vs a white or ALR screen? Thank you!
th-cam.com/video/po60aU4Iifw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4ujbHZd757Y8ih3o video could be your option for bedroom. Thisnis not a professional ALR like I use daily like this th-cam.com/video/zayyBGr3HpA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GnbRtTAbQB0Q3MUe
But it is cheap you can try easier than paint
For the paint test I will write to companies for samples because there are lot of brands I need to test and it is difficult than testing a screen .
@@homecinematechI would enjoy watching that👍😀

Yine harika bir video olmuş, ben dayanamayıp formovie t1 modeli satın aldım . UST perde için sizin videonuzu bekliyorum. Hatta isterseniz benim projeksiyon gelince size denemek gönderebilirim.
There definitely is a difference. Colors look more vibrant on the screen.
Dont forget it is 10cm colser to projector that is why there should be a difference.Like I said there is not worthy difference to buy one
I was thinking about building a projector screen since I can't find one at an affordable price that is close to 75 inches tall and 110 inches wide. Our projector is so powerful that I feel like we don't need one and it would only be for looks.
Cheapest ALR screen
