There was actually one small but significant thing you missed. Right before the native attack on the rebel camp, you can go and explore the swamp over where the Beliar cave is. There's a mini boss swamp dragon there. You can either kill it by yourself, or kill it with Rick. Either way, he takes the credit for killing it and is why he turns up in chapter 4 wearing dragon hunters armour.
