My main criticism of Skiba is that he uses the same melodies too often, even within AT. The side projects songs sound like AT songs just produced differently. Sound is different but the songs are fundamentally the same.
livpool Smith I agree but here's my argument; with any artist or band you will find regurgitation. it's bound to happen when you have longevity in a musical career. they can be very similar in melody, lead, etc. the reason why I keep listening is because each song is a different facet of Skiba's thinking and life. I don't necessarily listen for each individual part. I listen to check in with the artist. after years of hearing his music I feel like I know the artist and could literally meet him in person and be best friends.
I think it has a lot to do with personally finding certain harmonies pleasing personally. When I tried to write music, I found myself wanting to use the same chords a lot because I just really preferred the sound.
The lyrics, harmonies, stories, wordplay, mataphor and just overall songwriting are so wildy varied within those similar chord progressions, intervals and melodies that i just dont care. Its all fucking amazing.
Sounds like "Eating me alive" from This Addiction.
Cheers, knew it sounded familiar 🙂

The chorus to this one and "piss and vinegar", are nearly identical.
