My grandmother got medals in war. She wrote a book. She was one of Lotta Svärd. She healed wounded soldiers middle of russian bombings in front line. Thanks for men and woman of Finland.
I was born a dual citizen of both Sweden and Finland! I am proud over the fact that so many of my Finnish relatives were fighting against the Soviet union! But I still have great respect for the common soldier in the red army who were forced to fight and shoot if they refused! I have one relative that were decorated a number of times for bravery and I got a picture of him from the war witch I keep dearly!
My grandfather was a Jaeger in this war 42-44. He died 2004. He was my 'father'. Id love to show the same love as 'partisans' showed to us. Its not numbers of rupia....
My mother got a medal in this war! (haha. You thought you read wrong here.) Yes because she and many other women in Finland volunteered to live with the soldiers to cook, clean and wash for them! (my mum was about 20.) Her brother was at the front. Became ill in tuberculosis. But survived! (with only one lung.) (he got a medal too.) And they continued to live productive lives long after! (my mum became 84 years old.)
Yes, i know there were some Ski Brigades, but they came after the Winter war. Vain muutamia suksilla liikkuvia Siperiasta tulleita eliittikomppanioita varustettiin suksilla talvisodassa, nämä komppaniat olivat muutenkin hampaisiin asti varustettu.
@ellandelachapelle same with my grandma, she even participated in the war with her own rifle. So proud of her. My both grandpas were also sent to the frontline. But almost never talked about it. Alle the friends they saw being blown into pieces did some mental damage. But im so proud of them.
I agree my Finnish relatives fought bravely in the war but there homes in Lappland where burned to the ground by the Germans! I also have a Swedish relative who fought in Finnland! The world were shocked by the bravery of the Finnish soldiers who were outnumbered and almost didn´t have any tanks or airplanes but the Swede´s sent one third of there air force to Finland along with many firearms and military equipment!
Dolin´s Ski Brigade was best best eguipped Soviet unit in WW2 1940. Unfortunately they forgot to remove factory crease from their factory new semi-automatic rifles at -40+ frost... Finnish troops did not had big problem to eliminate them... :)
OK! I haven't read that much about the Spanish civil war! We have a monument here in Stockholm in memory of the 500 Swede´s that were killed fighting for the Socialists!
@blockthehood Just because Germany helped us doesn't mean we love Nazis! I don't want a comment war, so I'm just gonna ignore what you write after this. I just think everyone should shut up and see the video, and respect the people in it. After all, they were just protecting their country, and they were goddamn good at it.
70 years have passed from The Winter War. Heroes of Finland shall not be forgotten.
