  • In this video, I fished from the rocks in Northern California using both bait and lures. I found a big school of blue rockfish that provided constant action and caught a cabezon and a lingcod as well.

    I love your videos. Nice selection of content. Editing is great. Commentaries are spot on. Can't wait for the preparation video on the rockfish. How about listing your equipment and rig setups.

    I'm a few hours away from the coast and would like to try some day. When you're using bait, are you letting it sink to the bottom and just let it sit there until you feel a bite? I would suspect that it gets snagged everytime if I were to let it swoosh around on the bottom, no?

    • @sf_angler
      @sf_angler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! I try to use a heavy enough weight (4-8 oz depending on current) so that it sits still on the bottom. The more it moves around, the more often you'll snag.

    Is the madame swimbait similar to a JRP? Meaning slightly tougher plastic and strong thumping. The jrp almost fish like a crank bait.

    • @sf_angler
      @sf_angler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! The MadameLure minis are not quite as tough as JRPs (similar to a Big Hammer or Candy Bar) but their 7" "Big Richard" is a tougher material.

    • @ramonebrown5704
      @ramonebrown5704 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just wander the coast, find your own spot. Muir Beach-slide ranch area is cool. if you head north Fort Ross-Timber Cove, Salt Point tons of good spots here. If you really want to go on a mission the entire Mendcino Coast from Navarro Pointe through Westport

    Awesome. I'm looking for off-shore spots to fish in the Bay like this. Where exactly is this?

    • @sf_angler
      @sf_angler  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! This was north of Bodega Bay.

      @sf_angler Awesome. I've never been out that way. I'm in the East Bay, and whether I catch fish or not, I like the Sausalito, CA waters more than the Bay because of the water quality, warmer weather, and scenery. I used to surf fish in Halfmoin Bay near the Safeway shopping center, but the last time I drove out there a few years ago, the shore was washed away. So, I couldn't climb down the hill and surf fish. Even then, there was a public sign posted that warned about water pollution, which is sad. I recently conducted research on lakes and ponds across the East Bay Area, and noticed pollution warning signs posted. I can't believe how many that most of these waterways or "fishing pools" are polluted. Let me know when you're out in the Bay Area. I'll come out.

      How'd you know?!

  • @alexq316

    Why did you switch to a smaller rod when using artificial lure, especially if you were targeting bigger fish with it? Also nice tip about the leader being less pounds than the main line so if it breaks off you only lose the hook but keep the weight.

    • @sf_angler
      @sf_angler  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching! I used a heavy weight (5 oz) for the bait fishing for max casting distance so needed the heavier rod for it. The swimbait was much lighter so the lighter rod allowed further and more accurate casts and more sensitivity. Both were capable of handling any fish I might have hooked into.
