For me, learning how to free hand changed my life. it takes practice but it is so nice to be able to look at a piece and make it. you have to just do it, honestly. find a basic pattern and break it down into pieces. i started with cardigans because they’re just rectangles. another way to learn to freehand is to test your memory. learn how to make something and the next day, try to recall it. make it second nature to know stitches and how to measure. i managed to make a top and sleeves with no pattern because of this. another benefit is you will be able to pull inspiration from other patterns, including paid ones(buy if you can and don’t try to sell any replicated patterns). i’m broke, so it’s really saved me, lol.
I’m semi new to crochet (March last year) but this is my first time attempting clothes because I am also a plus size babe and it seemed so daunting, I only found your channel yesterday but I am really enjoying the content and it has spurred me on to do more than amigurumi and the occasional blanket for my Nans, thank you for this🫶
Looove your video! Very good advise, you really need to adapte everything and generally it's pretty easy with crochet! I made a loooot of bralette for me and my sisters (we are 5 and all with pretty big boobiez! XD) this summer! Tips I Learned. Never do the classic cup that you see everywhere, like you said, they're flat! I found a video for bigger chest cup that work amazingly! Don't do the strap that you use like a corsage in the back, it hurt soooo much! Do a strap that you attache wherever you like. And another one to do the corsage in the back! And most important thing, this cord, make it long enough to attache it in the front! You can't imagine how much of a difference it make for the support! (Sorry, english is not my first langage, I hope I am clear enough 😅)
I'm 62 years old. I learned to crochet from my mother. I'm left handed and she is right handed, but my brain was able to reverse it. The first thing she taught me to make was a granny square vest...2 large granny squares, and 2 straps. I feel once you learn to make a granny square, you can make many items. My problem with patterns has also been the sizing. I'm large busted, but my hips are smaller. The tops fit like a tent or they are skin tight. In my older age, I don't mind the tent look as much, but it would be nice to know where to decrease to get a better fit.
yes it’s so annoying! i think there are techniques in knitting in which you can change the bust sizing so it doesn’t effect the entire project but i’m yet to come across that sort of thing for crochet🥲
I found that a tape measure really helps. You can measure from where it starts to where you need to increase/ decrease and go from there. and don’t be afraid to mess up! i’m sure you already know that, but it definitely is a skill to know how to size 22:28 your garments.
Hi! I hope you are doing alright. @bonneswartzfager4190 I'm left handed too and I genuinely didn't realize that I crocheted with my right hand for the past year. Don't ask me how but I managed to forget lol. After realising it's been so cool since, I still can't use a spoon with my right but managed to crochet huge pieces. The human body is definitely interesting.
Hi Jaz! I can believe I just found your channel! I've been in the Yarn community since 2020 but I've never seen you around in any of the lives or otherwise. How have we been missing you in the YT streets all this time? I noticed you have a lot of family too, so you've obviosly been here a while! Well anyway, my name is Kelly and I am so thrilled to have found another channel for us fluffy gal's! I did say gal's, not cow's! Lol!😂 Sorry it's just my warped sense of humor slipping free! It escapes ever so often but some people don't get me and may take offense so I apologize ahead of time if I offend you in any way. Seriously though it's wonderful that you are doing plus size wearables bc I have a hard time with the math trying to make a small size pattern into plus size! Thank you so much for doing this! I have never made a wearable bc most are for the skinny girls! I look forward to getting to know you, see ya soon! Hugs!❤
I just subbed a few days ago 🎉 I've been crocheting for many years. However, I'm only just starting on wearables because I didn't think I could pull off anything due to my insecurities. I am currently working on some commissions for my husbands co-workers! I love your vibe and personality ✨️ I can't wait to see your future videos ❤
Hi! I love your channel! I’m a crochet pattern designer and I’m literally writing a crochet cable sweater vest pattern right now! I’m very small though, so I was wondering what exactly makes most crochet vest patterns unfriendly for plus sized crocheters / what should I keep in mind to make my vest pattern more plus sized friendly? Thanks!
I started pretty much like you said (only 2 months ago) and so far I've only made granny squares, a bag, and a couple of scarfs. I really want to make a sweater or cardigan but I have been a bit nervous to start 🙈
rectangles! chain the width across your shoulders you want it to hang and use whatever stitch you want to use to work up rows. once you reach the length you want, make the front panels. i always chain half of the back, minus 5 chains(this allows room for your neck). again, work in rows with the same stitch you used for the back and make two. connect the panels on the top only, leaving a space in the middle. this will help you know how long to make the arms. chain around your upper arm and use the same stitch to work until you reach the end. find the middle of the arms and line it up where you sewed the front/back panels together. sew the arms on, then sew the sides. you can add cuffs if you want, but i prefer open arms. if you do want cuffs, after you’ve sewn everything together, attach your yarn to the end of the sleeve and invisible decrease into every stitch for 1 round. repeat this until if fits to your liking(make sure it fits over your hand). it’s ok to stop decreasing in the middle of a round, btw. i hope this helped, lol.

Keep preaching sweetie. Some of us need to hear that it's ok ❤
