    On uchi-chiburi, the reason why the blade seems like it may cut Kazu's hand is because his left leg/hip needed to move back. Like Shogo demonstrated, drawing and sheathing require complimentary movements with both hands and hips. Many mistakes can be corrected by slowing down and focusing on the fundamentals.

  • @buzzsawgr81
    @buzzsawgr81 2 ปีที่แล้ว +63

    I've always been able to draw my sword pretty smoothly but I always had trouble with sheathing it until I saw one of your older videos that talked about the process. once I learned about the proper hand placement it instantly became so much easier to the point where I could sheath it without looking after just a few tries though it's not completely smooth yet, still need to practice.

      Depends on the situation. Generally, you’ll throw someone off by being left handed. Swap hands mid combat to screw them

      In boxing you can actually make it tougher for the average opponent if you're left-handed.

      @@michaelanuradha-khufu74 this wont necessarily work on left handed people. A fun trick is what ikkaku does in bleach. Attack with the blade and scabbard. Probably considered disrespectful to samurai, but its a fight. Use any trick you’ve got. Honor is for the dead

    I've done the drawing and re-sheathing thing thousands of times.
    One of the best feelings is drawing and cutting in one movement. That is addictive.

    I really like this video! I like how you have your friends do the katas and correct them and give tips on what they should be doing. I really think that it helps people learning at home, as most people probably make the same mistakes and / or have the same questions.
    I'm new to Iaido and your channel, and you have a lot of videos. Could you please recommend some of your videos that are similar to this one on learning Iaido? Thank you!

    I think when sheathing the most common injuries encountered is stabbing the webbing on your left hand. Even though these are Iaito, they are still pointy. The one I have is not also made of zinc alloy but is actually a carbon steel already but unsharpened too.
    Again thank you for these. I think I really find it limiting that some schools really discourage teaching when you're not like someone appointed by the masters and the learners then in return question a school authenticity due to this too.
    I've yet to watch the Hakama video and I don't have a proper Obi for the dogi, and the proper placement of the Sageo.

    this was pretty cool and awesome Shogo-san! one thing I noticed though is you didn't show pushing the Katana blade out with the thumb before drawing it fully, were your hand's on the Katana handle and your left on the scabbard and you push the sword out slightly with the left thumb and then after a moment drawing it fully out with your right hand. which is something I personally do with training. when pushing it forward with my thumb I only pause about 1/2 to1 second before drawing it fully.
