    Load pro is an awesome product and the Voltmeter only method of diagnostics works. I am a professional Transit Bus Tech with 17 years of experience and electrical and electronic diagnostics is one area I do quite a bit of work in. I'm Master Ase Certified Transit Tech with L2 certification also. I have been using Dan's tool since 2009 and it hasn't failed me. If you use Dan's tool and method you will without a doubt a more competent and efficient electrical tech.

    Dan, you are a very good teacher. I first saw the Loadpro mentioned a few days ago and couldn't understand what it is. You are a genius to have thought of this method and then created a simple to use tool to encompass the method. Of course the inventor never is rewarded. Stay with your attitude toward the haters. They ain' nothin.

    Dan,
    This video/presentation is almost 8 years old and IS the BEST by far!!!!!
    I am 54 years old and I have been a Ford Dealership Technician since 1987. I achieved Ford Senior Master status in 1999, with my specialty being in drivability, electrical and vehicle electronics.
    That all stated, you TOTALLY NAILED every point!!!!! From the beginning, describing just how Service Managers act regarding electrical/electronic diagnostics......to the manual fiasco.......to circuit diag. SPOT ON my friend!! SPOT ON!!!!
    I literally just ordered a "LOADPro" from Electronic Specialties (Model 180) for use with my Fluke 88. You did a WONDERFUL thing by developing and creating this EXCELLENT tool.
    Guys make electrical/electronics diagnosis WAY TOO difficult. It is not "magic", it IS knowing how to read and interpret schematics, and knowing the system you are diagnosing.
    Thank you for your work!
    Patrick
    P.S. BTW, I also own the ESI "Low Current Probe" (687) ans the ESI "Relay Buddy Pro" (191).
    ESI offers a LOT of excellent diag tools! Thank YOU Dan!

    Dan, I purchased your book and LOADpro tool several months ago. I wish I had you for an instructor years ago when I was in maintenance school. I learned more from your book and videos than I have anywhere else.Wiring makes so much more sense and is easier to apply the knowledge the way you teach it. I don't dread the electrical problems like I did before.

    After watching this video I realize that I do not ask "What is wrong with it?" when inquiring about a vehicle my apprentice mechanics are working on. I ask "What is is doing or not doing?" They may not know what is wrong with it but may be able to tell you what it is doing or not doing that is abnormal for it. Then I will have a better understanding of what the problem may be and lead them in the right direction if I have experienced that problem in the past. BTW, I have the LOADpro and I would recommend the book (Fundamental Electrical Troubleshooting) with it. The book will show you test and different scenarios in a simple to understand format. Thank You, Dan.

    Dan thanks, great revision of an old video. Your invention ROCKS. I encourage every new tech to get one and hone their electrical diagnostic skills, because every system on a modern vehicle has some form of electrical circuit associated with it. I'll admit I am old school and know that a good understanding of Ohms Law and how to perform voltage drops on a live circuit are all you need to find your problem. I have done it and know it works when performed correctly. Unfortunately not too many techs use the voltage drop method or know how. I own a test light/voltmeter and it has served me well. Now you tested the positive side of the fan motor with a test light/voltmeter and read source voltage because the circuit was not complete. Plug the fan motor in and test it again and you will see a different result. Ha ha you know that. Next place your test light / voltmeter from the fuse to the fan motor and that would give you the voltage drop indicating a problem. Ha ha you know that too. Now you would have spent a whole lot of time performing voltage drops at various locations on the circuit removing who knows what. Yes you said that as well. Now you did mention that using the test light/voltmeter in an UNLOADED circuit is useless. On that we are in sync. We are also in sync in that your invention simply put is a no brainier. Not much thought, Not much time wasted and No scratching your head thinking did you {mis} something. Ha ha. I am proud to say that I own a LOAD PRO. Now I did say I am old school and break out my test light/voltmeter ( creature of habit ) or Alzheimer's but windup putting it back for the LOAD PRO. Now the true difference between a test light/voltmeter and the LOAD PRO is that an UNINFORMED tech/person can use a LOAD PRO with a higher degree of accuracy and efficiency. Which by the way may have others thinking your competent. I like my test light/voltmeter but it to will pass like the dinosaurs once the LOAD PRO takes off.
    Again many thanks for your invention and sorry if I ran on and on but I had nothing else to do all my work is done. Damm LOAD PRO:).

    I work on refuse trucks for a living, and your are right on the money. The systems are getting more complicated and my Forman is constantly wanting me to put a time to the job. And sometimes it can take a hour sometimes it can take a full day depending on the manufacturers support. I’ve been using a 15 amp light in line with a multimeter and just a mess of different pines and back probes finally started using a load pro and found it to cut my dish time in half. But wish the would off one in different resistance values, I have found that it helps most of the time but sometimes it doesn’t catch the problem all the time depending on the amps of the circuit

    In my case I get these trucks after about 3 or 4 sometimes more than that other techs have already been into the truck for 20+hrs. At that point it's like, well first I have to find out what other issues were created then find the initial problem and fix that too. But I think it's important to have an idea of what you think the problem is before you start so you know where to start at. Example: truck comes in and HVAC blower motor is inop. The manual has you check a lot of other things first but from experience we know to look at the green connector on the frame mounted PDM first because the power pin here burns often. This can save you a lot of time in diag to check these known problem areas first.

    DAN! you hit the nail right on the head on the company I work for! lol 😂 they guy expects for everything to be fixed in 5 minutes! lol its so freaking unreal nothing takes five minutes in this kind of field lol I own a power prob 3 but every time I need to use it I have to hook to the battery.. I work on big heavy equipment and also your normal dump trucks and stuff This is so awesome I can just get in side with my meter and test stuff with out having to bust out the power prob for some testing .. Man I'm so glad you made this video lol gonna share it with some co workers lol .. definitely gave you a Sub keep up the good work and these dam trucks are getting to be a pain in the ass to work on I wish they would of just kept it simple !!! but nooooo need a 1000 things to make one thing work now uhhhh. 🤦🏽‍♂️ lol I'm a diesel mechanic but I've been the fall guy to do electrical because no else has the patience for it lol .. I have some experience but like you said if the company doesn't invest in the information it makes my job harder so I really have to get the wheels turning in my head lol but thank god for cell phones with internet lol once I under stand how the system works I can find the problem quite .. but like you said everything is changing so fast its just getting to be ridiculous lol .. I'm defiantly going to order your tool !! looking forward to using it!

Once you find out where you problem lies, weather it is an open, short or high resistance, is there a video on a teaching on what to do next on how to find where the problem is at? Lets say for example in your video you put a 1 ohm resistance in the circuit, how would you go about finding where the resistance lies in the wiring? Is there a simple step by step process to follow? Thx in advance for the feed back.

      Move the black lead to ground - isolate the positive - repeat the test. If it comes back it's in the (+) - if it goes away it's in the (-). Then you work back towards either the fuse or ground. Same as a TEST light (that's why the first tool was called TESlite...)

It is running a P0073 code, which may be a break or high resistance in the wire somewheres.

    At 12min in this video you say source voltage present at the load connector means you can not have a short to ground or an open/broken wire. You are correct about the short to ground but the wire still could be broken. Example: one of the 2 wires has rubbed through and all the conductors are broken but they are touching. With a volt meter only you will see full battery voltage but it won't support a load. That's why it's important to load test your wires because with a meter only check you can miss this one.

    • @MIKEDUZZI420
      @MIKEDUZZI420 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok I should of listened a bit further. I have been bitten by that exact scenario. And I think that's probably why you invented the load pro. Before I owned a load pro I used a parallel bank of 4 halogen bulbs with a 100a POT to load test with.

Is it true their sealed inside it with no way to replace the batteries ??????? maybe I,m missing something here being I have not seen any other complaints about batteries failing. Honestly I avoid rechargable tools that you cant replace the rechargable batteries built in it. Guess thats just me.

    Dude I have given similar answers to stupidvisors over the years.
    How long till you fix it?
    That depends on how long it takes me to troubleshoot the issue.
    Well how long till you finish troubleshooting?
    Now how the hell am I supposed to give you a real answer to that?
    Well I need to know because I have another problem for you to troubleshoot.
    You do?
    Yes I do, and its a priority.
    Ok.
    So..... how long till you figure out what's wrong with it?
    How about if you go outside and play hide and go ___ yourself and I will come get you when I get it figured out... Goodbye!!! Hint hint hint...
    As you can image, I have been fired several times over the years... lol

    Have question regarding voltage drop.
    scenario 1.
    Objective=To check the integrity of ground wires from the PCM.
    -KOEOff ( reading 5 volts on ref) - circuit is on ( supposedly loaded)
    -hook up one lead to BAT- and the other lead to entry point at PCM connector ( connector is attached to PCM).
    DMM reads 6.2mV.
    Would such procedure establish if the circuit is good ( mainly to see if wire going into PCM is connected to ground and in good condition)
    Can the LoadPro also perform this test, if so what are the conditions and hook up.
    Someone suggested to disconnect PCM wire, use a test light. One side goes to BAT+ the other touch the ground PCM wire, if light is "bright" circuit OK.
    I ask that you comment on the merits or lack thereof of each method, if possible
    Thank you

    I totally agree when someone asks me what's wrong my answer is it doesn't work and how long we'll to fix or figure out what's wrong because one of those things I can't answer.

    Hi Dan. Thanks for all your videos. They are really helpful. For some reason, I'm having difficulty understanding the theory behind why the load Pro works. Do you have a video explaining, in greater detail, the electrical theory behind it. I have a pretty solid understanding of basic electricity, but for some reason this one tool's application is escaping me. My understanding is that you are supposed to get a voltage drop between the power and ground sides of the connector if the circuit is working properly and its loaded. Also, how does the load pro allow you to test circuits for multiple different loads that will all have different resistances if the load Pro only applies one constant resistance? Please forgive my ignorance but help me if you can. Thanks a lot

    • @bivideo7
      @bivideo7  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      jawojnicki First, all circuits only have one load. You may not find it easy to agree, but it's true - and that's why the tool works. (It would work otherwise, but it would be less simple). If there's only one load - it *should* drop 100% of applied voltage. The LOADpro is a substitute load. If any other resistances (faults) are in the circuit with the real load removed, then the LOADpro *cannot* drop/use 100%. The additional resistances (faults) will use voltage, making it impossible for the LOADpro to drop 100% (±12.6V). If you know what a voltage drop is (energy a device consumes when current flows) then you should appreciate that the drop can't occur if you remove the load - the circuit is "open". The LOADpro completes the circuit. Instead of an *open-circuit* voltage (2/3 useless) you read a *voltage drop* across the tool. Simple. BTW - a lot of people have posted articles/forums on how to build the tool. A little cheezy and scumbag, but what can you do? If you're sincere, I hope this helps. If you want to build your own, I can't stop you - but I'm filing a lawsuit against Snap-on Friday for patent infringement. It's one thing for a major company to rip me off, but a far different one for a fellow mechanic/student to do it. Either way - if this helps you or someone else I'm happy to share it.

    I sometimes take short cuts in trouble shooting electrical problems, I first look at the symptoms of what the system is doing or not doing and use my experience to try and go straight to the problem, (sometimes it works sometimes not).

    @cutabove9046 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If only electronic troubleshooting was simply confirming wiring integrity of a DC circuit life would be a breeze. Confirming the integrity of the wiring in a circuit is only one aspect of a potential automotive electronic problem (a minor one at that), which by the way can be better determined by a simple test light that contains the appropriate load. The real problem is understanding the circuit's and the devices connected to that circuit theory of operation and understanding what you should be seeing for that device's input signal and the resultant output signal. So, a Load Pro might come in handy handling an DC electrical problem, but not one that is electronic. And the reality is that most hard to solve automotive problems are electronic not electrical.
