Thanks for this, going to use it as a guide. As others have said it's just my left earbud that's the issue. It charges back up when you put it in the case but then loses charge overnight. I'm slightly concerned that as it seems to be a firmware issue it will just happen again.
Nice video, will use as a reference for my pair. But as one poster mentioned it is my left bud that's the cause...Sony used to offer quality products, you shouldn't have to do this on a fairly new device
Truth & Solution for sony wf-1000xm4 battery drain: After considerable research I now think I understand the XM4 battery problem. The previous XM3 uses a standard 3.7v 60mAh battery like the Varta CP1254 A3. For additional battery life in the XM4, Sony switched to the new ZeniPower Z55H, which is physically identical but 3.85v 75mAh (higher voltage, 25% greater capacity). My educated guess is that : (a) Sony was unable to get sufficient quantities of the new Z55H early the XM4 production, so instead substituted readily available 3.7v XM3 batteries, and; (b) optimized later versions of XM4 firmware (1.4.2+) for 3.85v batteries. The problem is that firmware optimized for 3.85v batteries could overcharge and permanently damage 3.7v batteries in addition to not estimating charge level correctly. Also, customers with 3.7v batteries would likely always get less than advertised battery life. What Sony should have done was publicize a recall of all XM4 units with battery problems, but instead instituted a secret extended warranty just for those customers complaining about battery problems, likely to minimize bad publicity, lost sales, and repair/replacement costs. If so, that's consumer fraud (a term I do not use lightly). Like the XM3, the XM5 should not have a battery problem like the XM4 unless Sony again substitutes different batteries. p.s. To prevent recurrence of the problem, when replacing batteries in the XM4 it is essential to use 3.85v 75mAh batteries (which are now available on eBay & other websites). Unfortunately, some battery sellers are incorrectly indicating that 3.7v batteries can be used.
Oh, so that's why my XM4s was heating up when charging even though they were the latest update, it was overcharging a battery that could not hold the charge, which made it heat up. I replaced my battery (right side) to the specifications you recommended. likely I didn't have to buy new batteries since I was going to replace them so I purchased random ones. Luckily they were the right ones. thanks for the information, this was very helpful🤗.
I bought the ‘Zenipower z55h 3.85v’ after reading that the cause was due to the wrong batteries, as I had the problem after the update, but upon disassembling it, I saw that it had the same z55h of 3.85v, so I don’t think the problem was the one you are describing.
thanks for the video, very helpful. when i detached the battery the glue didn't stick anymore. i used two sided thin clear tape, it worked, but now im have a slight cracking sound on my right earbud... maybe i should use the same "rubber-like black glue" they used here, but i dont have a clue how to find it, could you please tell me which one is?
I was wondering if you could change the batteries in these headphones because my left earbud dies faster than my right one and i've only had these headphones for a year or so

Has anyone noticed that after replacing the battery status is always 100%? Not a huge deal as mine charge and perform fine but wondering if it is common after replacement
And after this it doesn't want to charge anymore xD. I have the same issue and with previous Sony earbuds, i guess i buy from a better brand next time. These battery issues started after firmware update but Sony doesn't care about their customers so they just ignore it..

What kind of glue did you use? And if you have to reopen this glue is it easily removable?

Yes these can be replaced. At the time we only sell the parts and do not offer a repair service.

Thank you but I hope someone makes a realtime non-edited video. It is not an easy process to replace these batteries without any problem.

Make sure to try and factory reset them
@@Joesge doesn't do anything man. The firmware broke it and Sony doesnt take responsibility. Never buy Sony again.
More close-up camera work would've been nice. I can't really see what you're doing.
