      I agree brother, I love Motorhead!!! Next to Kiss, Zepplen and AC/DC they are my 4th favorite band ever!!! I wish that joke called the rock n roll hall of fame would realize how influential Lemmy and the boys were!!!

    Motorhead is not part of the NWOBHM they were recording albums before that movement began. They are one of the first metal bands along with Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.

      Motorhead are NWOBHM as is JP. Sabbath were the original first wave with Zeppelin and Purple.

      @@dannysoler05 yeah but it's not really about when a band started, its about when they released an album. Motorhead released their first album in 77, Maiden didn't do one until 80.

    I'd also add Black Axe, Tokyo Blade, Praying Mantis, Pagan Altar and Witchfinder General. There are so many more however that deserve more praise.

    Motorhead were NOT NWOBHM. Their first release was in 1975 and they weren't part of the movement.
    Apart from that great list.

      Motorhead are NWOBHM. They were one of the front runners and were the first band to use the double kick peddles with speed and aggression. Phil Taylor on Overkill was the first use of double bass

    • @WolfgangVonPoserkila
      @WolfgangVonPoserkila 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Joel Brown
      No, they were a big influence to NWOBHM like Judas Priest were but they weren't considered part of it. They were established well before NWOBHM bands material came out beginning in 1978/79.

    • @nr655321
      @nr655321 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Wolfgang Von Poserkila That's true. But then, it doesn't hurt my guts to see them on the list. Motorhead is a strange animal anyways, because stylistically they are a bit tricky to pinpoint. To me more than anything they are the forefathers of black metal.

    • @js007kcor6
      @js007kcor6 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Maciej P Motorhead was the first band to mix Punk rock and classic Hard Rock/Heavy metal from the 70s... But they are not on the NWOBHM Motorhead was very near to other punk band and american rock bands...Very different in comparision with the NWOBHM bands that always have been evading the punk bands.... Also the combination of Punk Rock and Hard rock (that also hhave been on NWOBHM bands like Venom, Iron Maiden, Raven, Tank and others) was the core of the future sub genres of the Extreme metal (Thrash/Death and Black metal)

    Actually a good list, upset me to see Tank and Raven so low on the list as I saw them better than and more significant than some of the bands higher on the list like Def Leopard and Tygers of Pan Tang but at least they made it on there. Also honorable mentions who doesn't like some Tokyo Blade, Chateaux, and Cloven Hoof I guess Warfare doesn't register since they played more Punk infused Speed Metal but were kind of involved with that style with Venom, Tank and Motörhead. Good list though keep it up.

      Replace Motörhead for Satan, Blitzkrieg, Holocaust or Grim Reaper... Sure is a great band and I totally love them but they were predecessors of NWOBHM just like Judas Priest, UFO and Rainbow... and also Satan, Blitzkrieg and many other bands deserves much mire recognition (Motorhead is very popular now, the other bands from the NWOBHM, not so much) Also nice list pal, pretty great . Cheers \.../

    There's a mistake in this list: Motörhead don't belong to the NWOBHM. They released their first album ('On Parole') long before NWOBHM startet. Normally only those british bands who released their first album in 1979 or in the beginning of the 80's are classified as 'NWOBHM'. Two of the most brilliant bands of NWOBHM are missing in the list: Demon (albums: 'Night of the Demon" and 'The unexpected Guest') and Praying Mantis (album: 'Time tells no Lies').

    Budgie doesn't get enough love as a NWOBHM band. Yes, they were actually from Wales, they debuted in 1971, and they played a lot of softer psychedelic rock alongside their heavier songs, but albums like In For the Kill, Power Supply, and Night Flight were textbook examples of NWOBHM.

    Def Leppard was, and will always be a leading band during the NWOBHM. They led the pack arm and arm with Iron Maiden at the start. What they became later on cannot erase those facts and just because you guys don't know history doesn't mean it didn't happen.

    While Def Leppard were technically a part of the NWOBHM early on, they pretty clearly abandoned the movement in favor of the Glam/Pop rock scene as soon as they could. I think it's a bit farcical to call them a NWOBHM band these days.
    Also, Motorhead at 5. Like... Motorhead. At 5. Can I have some of that sweet, sweet Canadian weed you're smoking? It's obviously pretty potent.

    Except you excluded the best NWOBHM band right from the start; Judas Priest. Come on now.

  • @johnwilson1689
    @johnwilson1689 ปีที่แล้ว

    I must agree with a couple earlier comments that Motorhead isn't considered NWOBHM. Their first album was in 1976, three years before the movement began (1979). I would also include Tokyo Blade, Samson (Bruce Dickinson's pre-Iron Maiden band), and Savage (their first album "Loose 'n Lethal is pretty molten and considered a genre classic). But not a bad list normies! LOL

  • @broman260
    @broman260 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    anybody who knows anything about NWOBHM knew Iron Maiden would be number 1 lol and i'm not surprised to see some confused people in these comments. NWOBHM is a pretty obscure era and this is watchmojo. i am surprised that they did a video on it though.

    In a lot of these bands you can hear thrash and some even power metal. It kind of split metal into two with the lighter side like power and progressive metal and the extreme metal like death and thrash.

    Excluding Judas Priest from this list is an insult to NWOBHM. They were one of the most influential bands for the NWOBHM. It shouldn't matter if they came before the scene.

  • @ianmcevoy7106
    @ianmcevoy7106 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not a bad list, there were a lot of bands around at the time so I can see how the choice would be difficult. Given that I was surprised not to see Holocaust or Witchfinder General in the list or even given a mention. Perhaps the Americans never heard of them?

    Back in the 80's it was all Maiden hands down, now it is Saxon's day! Maiden has became too prog for my taste nowadays where Saxon has somewhat got heavier! Cool that Brian from Diamond Head is now officially a member of Saxon. Raven is so criminally underrated!
