      This song sounds like me when I get my meds messed up. I have a lot of difficulty readjusting to home life when I come home from the hospital or CSU. We try to joke about "Momma's summer home". My son loves to talk to me about what's going on. His tattoo is "Zonko the Wonderfish". It's on my left forearm. He says "Zonko" tells Momma to kill people". My son is autistic and finds it so absurd that anyone would actually believe I am violent. So it's funny to him. His sense of humor is very offensive to others but he just doesn't have a filter. National Honor Society, college (evening) and high school (morning) at the same time. But socially, we have a lot in common. We bond by making fun of difficulty issues. Very like "Ridiculous" we laugh at the fact that we have escaped from horrible things.

    11:10 in the studio version, for the last chorus, instead of singing "everyone is after me" he says "myself is after me." The lyrics for this song are already really good, but that one lyric elevates it further imo.

    6:51 - Lars did the lick!!! I know he's become a bit of a meme as a drummer but I still say that's one of the coolest licks ever written. I admire Metallica for writing about mental health quite a bit throughout their career lyrically as well. Some bands tend to shy away from that, but Metallica's sort of embraced it.

    • @dazed1nyc
      @dazed1nyc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      People can hate on Lars all the want, but the fact of the matter is he plays what suits the song. He doesn't try to be flashy. His fav drummers of all time are Phil Rudd, Roger Taylor and Ian Paice. The Justice album in its entirety is his shining moment imo.

    • @TheScorpio1999
      @TheScorpio1999 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dazed1nyc I'd even say that "And Justice..." is the entire band's shining moment, although that's a hard call to make when it's standing in the middle of other shining moments like Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning; it's a close call overall in that era, but they all really went all-out on "Justice." What I admire about "Justice" is this was right after bassist Cliff Burton died. The band could have called it a day then and there; and honestly, there'd have been no shame in it. Many bands would have. Instead, they were like "no; we're just getting started" and really kicked the doors down on this record. They're unstoppable. They're just unstoppable.

    • @dazed1nyc
      @dazed1nyc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheScorpio1999 I'm a guitar player who converted to bass so Cliff will always be my guy and while it would have been a different record I'd love to see what they would have been had he not died. That being said, Justice is my fav album start to finish. If you've never read the Metallica book Enter Night that came out a few years ago Lars himself tells a story about recording Lightning and the producer saying to him "You do know that you don't have to start the drums on the up beat on every song right?" And Lars replied "whats an up beat?". I think the Lars hate started because of the Napster bullshit. Either way they never claimed to be the best musicians but for reasons unknown they all perfectly compliment each other.

    You seem so sweet. How could a person with such a kind persona become so distressed? My philosophy is, people get depressed when think "they're unique", as in, "no one has ever had the troubles I have". We all go through it. Life is fluid, for good and for bad. Neither pain nor pleasure last forever. But sticking it out, nearly always brings a better day. 😊

    Watching you enjoy the music and Metallica's musicianship put a big old smile on my face Amanda. You even made my eyes a little wet because I could sense the emotion's you were feeling just watching them play. James grew up in a broken home, and when he writes song's like this, he's telling his story about his terrible past. Many Musicologist consider "And Justice For All" the first Progressive Metal Album, and it's literally because of song's like this with multiple time signature changes, the incredibly heavy and dynamic riffage, and the diverseness of the guitar melodies, and Kirks guitar solo's. Everything was on another level on this album. You Take Care Amanda.♥️ Toodles!

    I might have heard something a little wrong, but I thought you mentioned something like songs or music providing "armor" for your day. Its taken me a long time to deal with the depression and confusion of my parents divorce, even though it happened many years ago. I found metal music that way, and it has provided armor for me in my dire needs.
    Recently, I discovered one band where most of my "armor songs" come from. Nothing really gets you pumped up and feeling powerful like growly Viking themed melodic death metal. Amon Amarth has many songs that help don my armor. Songs like one of their new ones, Find a Way or Make One. I mean, check out the outro chorus:
    When it seems hope is lost,
    Fight them all at any cost.
    When it seems that hope is gone,
    I'll find a way, or I will make one.
    Yeah, its about a berserker on the field of battle, but it can apply to us in our struggles. There's always hope, even if its a slight glimmer in the distance. Check that song out, along with Valhalla Awaits and The Way of Vikings. Those are some of my armor songs.

    I survived the most depressing experience in my life...divorce after 10 yrs of marriage.i was 29..it took a toll on me.scarred me for life...I was in limbo for a year but I manage to keep my sanity intact because I raised my three kids on my own.for a 29 years old man that ain't easy.especially the youngest was only 3 month old.
    But I'm different.i learned things quite different from anyone else.i don't take advice from people who didn't survived such experience.talk is cheap.nobody couldn't see it exteriorly but my anger builds up quite enormous inside...yeah I listened to metal music to relate to it.hard pounding music..and the message in it was the best advice.better than those mouth flapping councelors who end up saying,"sorry I can't help ya".13 years passes by and all my kids grown up now ...looking back I'm proud that I survived it.my kids and metal especially Metallica's songs been guiding all those years .ain't no band nowadays can top that.

Not only letting me know I wasn't alone in what I was feeling, but had a sort of EMDR(Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) effect in that it allowed me to associate these feelings with these genius guitar licks and beautiful solos so I could process them without feeling completely overwhelmed.

    You mention how you wish you would've experienced this music in your younger days. For me, that's the exact reason why I love metal so much. The genre has always been about the experiences of the overlooked and outcast and how they experience life and see the world. Of course, because it's an aggressive release and full of power, there are some fans who want it to be "Alpha Male Bravado" all the time, but that was never in the spirit of the music when it was born. Metal is supposed to be welcoming and relatable and allow those of us who feel excluded to be a part of something. The aggression behind it is just a safe way to release all of the pent-up emotions we tend to hold inside.

      You know, I'm one of the most stubborn people you will ever meet. However I can just let myself get overwhelmed. I often think it's ok to wish I only had 1 or 2 issued to contend with. I'm nearly 50 years old and have been in physical pain since a car accident since I was about 16. Pain can cause anxiety or depression. I'm having problems with both. I didn't believe I was depressed until about a month ago. My son had found some of his old toys that he used to play with. That whole conversation the memories had me in an unknown place. It was so strange...I felt happiness. I realized I've repressed so many things and made myself so numb or just burying everything. That few minutes was the best, mentally that I've felt in many years. I can't or don't want to imagine what kind of person I've become. Especially around my family.

    I love Metallica and there is 1 song that pretty much mirrored how I felt growing up within a broken home with an abusive father and the is "Unforgiven". There were definitely a few times that I thought about ending my existence, but I refused to let Them win. I spent so much time locked within myself.

    I remember seeing these guys the first time in 1986, when their original bass guitarist Clive was alive. It's hard to believe it was that many years ago he died in bus accident. Been a fan for 40 plus years of these guys. Plus, huge Iron Maiden fan. Should check their stiff out as well.

    I’m curious as to why you are traveling to Helsinki soon. Do you have family or friends there? Or are you just traveling there because you wanted to travel and that’s a place on your list to visit? Just curious because Finland(compared to a lot of other countries) isn’t that big of a travel destination for people. I think I know 1 person who’s gone there lol. I’ve never been but I’d love to as I just love to travel. So I’m assuming you’re like me and you just want to travel everywhere you can at least once lol

      Also fun fact, I have the exact same guitar James is using in this video. It’s his signature ESP guitar. And I got it signed by him himself at one of the metclub meet and greets before a show in Philly back in 2018. I even asked him to play the insane downpicking riff at the beginning of Master of Puppets on it just for a second just so I could say James Hetfield actually played my guitar and he did it lol. Coolest fucking thing I own

    • @TheJerseyNinja

      Also, this is a rare one. They’ve only played this live 12 times since it was released back in 1988. They’ve played like a mashup of it and some other rarely played songs from the album a few times, and they’ve added little snippets of the song to end off other songs here and there, but in terms of the amount of times the song was fully played and was a song on the set list it’s only been played 12 times. Now that’s more than a lot of other Metallica songs, some of which have NEVER been played live or played only once (one time songs include: Escape, Fixxxer, Hate Train, Just a Bullet Away, Mama Said, Rebel of Babylon, Sweet Amber, and To Live is To Die) To Live Is To Die is a shocking one that they’ve only played it once live, but it also kinda makes sense because it was the song they wrote in honor of their original bassist Cliff Burton passing away and using a bunch of his riffs he had wrote to make the song. I think they were never going to play it live but they ended up playing it at their 30 year anniversary show at The Fillmore
