I resonated with this a lot. As Ram Dass says, plant medicine tears down the veil and brings me into the same room as odin, land spirits, and other deities. My recent personal experience was while going through the direction of the west in my shamanic medicine wheel, where I did a 9 week healing immersion, and each weekend I drank mushroom tea and dove into healing each of the 9 chakras (Hvels in old norse) one week at a time.

I find it interesting that not all the Norse gods can realm travel with the ease that Odin does, at least not as mentioned in the texts, but the name Sleipnir meaning Slipper makes me think of slipping between the planes of realms and dimensions. Not an easy journey to make for us mortals, but it's what makes the role of shaman so important ❤

If there's one thing I hear people talk about after doing plant medicine is their brain "unlocking" and/or how their eyes opened up to some type of information. This wisdom they have about "_____" now. So ya, I can definitely see that sort of thing being tied to Odin.

12:25 Yes! Nobody that I’ve met in heathenry so far apart from you is recognising the fundamental problem of this faith being stuck in the Viking age, whether it’s the Amazon prime Viking (bro) age or the ultra geeky academic historical larper Viking age. Most heathens I’ve met will sneer at you if you suggest anything that isn’t well evidenced in sagas, eddas or archeology. But this is also keeping heathenry from growing and developing into what it needs to be in this age. It keeps Asatru trapped in a cringey, larpy , animal sacrifice , in its woolen tunic wearing thing that needs to die and be reborn as a modern spirituality. We are not historical, we are not Vikings! We are modern people healing and growing in a new type of world

@@mwol5473 Although you stated that “people never worshipped Loki”, we don’t know that for sure. Although Loki was chaotic in nature, he was extremely cunning and intelligent at the same time.
We know that in Norse mythology/paganism, there isn’t such a thing as good and evil like how the Christians believe in life. Sometimes if we were brought up in a Christian household, we struggle with letting go of this idea.
In Norse Mythology/Paganism, everything has aspects of good and evil, like our personalities and nature.
We also see that time is even viewed differently. In the Christian and western context; time is linear, whereas time for the Nordic people was cyclical and in cycles.
To say Loki was not worshipped is like saying Runes weren’t used for divination. We lack evidence of these things, but it doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen, we have just yet to discover this.
We do have evidence that in some areas, even the Jötun who were chaotic and destructive in nature, were worshipped and venerated (probably to give respect so they didn’t destroy their lands with the forces of nature).
It could be very possibly that Loki was venerated, worshipped, and/or respected to some degree to, at the very least, prevent Loki from causing chaos in their lives. However, it is also possible that they contacted Loki to cause chaos and curses.
Regardless of the fact; Loki is way more intelligent than us mortals and is an ancient being of wisdom and knowledge. To say that he wasn’t worshiped because he was “evil” is nonsense. There is no such thing as “evil” in Norse mythology/paganism; only in the Christian context there is.
I would advise to be carefully with working with Loki however, because he is a trickster, to say the least. But nonetheless, he has wisdom that can be learned through contacting him.
For even Odin mentions in the Havamal that every being has something to teach you, so long you aren’t ignorant to think otherwise. (This was a paraphrase of the quote).
I personally don’t work with Loki or haven’t yet atleast, due to the fact that I want to prepared and ready if I do contact his energy source.
There is no set path to Norse paganism, and we only know what we know based on what we have found to current date (meaning there is probably still more to be discovered in the future).
Let’s not forget that Loki wasn’t as “evil” as you say in the poetic Edda, whereas in the Prose Edda, he was made to be way worse due to the author being Christian and having that Christian mentality.
      Stay well brother 🍻

@@mwol5473there's no personification of evil in Norse paganism, Loki is a god like any other, he didn't have much worship historically because he's a god followed by outcasts and rebels, Loki isn't Satan, Loki is Loki

fascinating. similarly, i connect with, what i believe to be, the "older" aspect of the mythology of athena/minerva with minerva being the older version. sounds to me like you've had (and are having) a very deep, spiritual experience. just, so very interesting. i add either cedar or "scarborough 4" to the fire to bless it (if you will). yes! respect and gratitude with regard to, well, everything! right? everything changes (was going to embolden this, but decided to lay off doing that). such an important thing to say and to understand. we are on very different paths and yet there are some interesting similarities.

I think you are absolutely right about stories changing, and how we can't be tied to books. It's really hard for people to understand this, and I cringe internally when I see someone (usually a very fresh, enthusiastic face) saying "We should have a Norse pagan BIBLE". With that they mean, a capital-B Book with all the stories, lessons, prayers and rules in one book.
    My short answer: no
My long ansnwer: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NO NO NO NO NO
That is not the spirit of our ancestors. We have to break free from this mindset. The "pagan" (I'm not sure how I feel about that word) mindset is an entirely different worldview, it's not just a different religion in a different costume from christianity but basically the same foundation or worldview.
I will not blame only christianity, with its strict books, buildings and preaching from authority it has taught us as "this is what spirituality looks like" for the past thousand years. The scientific, fact-based worldview also does this. Something is only True if it's written black on white, on paper, and it can only be that way. Our ancestors were not like that. Hell, they didn't even record time in years like "2024". Everything was a lot more fluid to them. They were not interested in facts and numbers and what's written on a page. The spirit of lessons and stories is what mattered, true wisdom, not what we see as "smart" today.

    • @Aethuviel
      @Aethuviel 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Geckogirl-1970 Yeah, it's mostly because it's such an abused word, usually used in common with "immoral", "godless", "degenerate", and so on. From christians, usually, so maybe we shouldn't care, but on a more serious side, it's also a bit hard because if you say you're a pagan, it could mean anything from Wicca to Odinism to some native animism. I know the Greek pagans prefer the word "polytheist", some Norse prefer "heathen", and I suspect most people practicing traditional beliefs outside of these reconstructions (like the aforementioned animism and shamanism) don't necessarily call themselves "pagan".
I have nothing against the word personally, it's just complicated, whether we should claim it and save it from its ugly connotations and misconceptions, or forget about it.
