Any woman who's had a vaginal birth probably had a "Peri bottle" which works in the same sense as a travel bidet. same here: replacing bottles of liquids by these tiny tabs is so great! I have been using washable wipes with liquid sanitizers but these would avoid a ton of plastic bottles and the gain of room would be really great too!
Yeah I really hope they come to market. As a person with OCD, I was using disposable wipes to clean my groceries even before the pandemic (Costco's are made of Tencel and come in flat paks instead of tubes). But this would be even better.
Nespresso, like a keurig, but it also makes espresso drinks. Has a program where you mail the aluminum pods back. All the pods are recycled. The aluminum is used to make bicycles, new pods, etc. And the grounds are used in soil 😍
My family has that. I'm like, but a French press or chemex would use less resources y'all. I know, the individual pod coffee makers are convenient because they only make one cup, but couldn't that be done with a French press? I can't drink coffee so I admit I don't get it.
The alcohol distillery here is making sanitizer from a by-product of their liquor, and selling it in glass liquor bottles. Some of them have aluminum twist caps, and some have plastic pumps.
Ok, so I live in Italy and over here there's a bidet in everyone's house(like the separate "little toilet") and I never understood the correlation between using a bidet and not using any toilet paper. The bidet is used to clean with water and soap the residue left AFTER you've used toilet paper to wipe the uh... excess. You use less tp that way, and you're clean afterwards(which is the whole point of the bidet), but you still use it.
So true, its interesting that cultural differences can be more eco-friendly and sustainable. I do love all of Shelbi's videos and hope I can achieve as much as her with my TH-cam community, one day.
I don't want to sound too dramatic, but you have literally helped me so much during these times. Stress from everything pandemic related and eco-anxiety were hitting me real hard, seeing all these gloves scattered on sidewalks and parking lots on my way to work. I'm part of the campaign for Eco Gloves and the reusable masks now! Thank you for being so diligent with keeping up on everything better for us and the planet! Also, congrats on partnering with Care/of! You know I'm using your code!!
OMG staahpp! Thank you so much. This makes my heart so happy ❤️ seriously I don't even know how to express how giddy your comments had made me. I'm so happy I can be helpful to you in anyway
Hey Shelbi! Thanks for your videos! I just wanted to mention that travel bidets are also great for people who use a menstrual cup! I HATE wiping my cup out with tp. Ew. I usually bring a water bottle with me when I need to clean it in public. Also, ew. But a travel bidet is a great idea for that need and I will definitely be making that purchase soon! ♡ thanks for the idea!
i think it's great that you mentioned that right now our health is more important than sustainability so it's okay to do something that's not so good for the environment, if we have to - but thank you for sharing all these products with us so that we can try to combine taking care of our health with taking care of our planet!
If you ever decide to try a bidet again, Id recommend using reusable cloths to dry yourself off after, toilet paper tend to leave residues and its definitely not the most pleasant haha
I wanted to get a fancy Toto bidet seat with the "blow-dry" feature. I tried it out at a spa (in the before-time) and it was pretty cool. Yeah it still left my bits a tad wet but it was manageable.
In Germany we have a Bidet as well - it‘s called „HappyPo“ (well... HappyButt in English 😄). I use it since the beginning of march because my husband was really concerned about running out of toilet paper. During your period it‘s also really helpful as well. I love it. And the advertising is great: they used Michael Jacksons „Beat it“... bideeeet, bideeet, bideeeet, bideeet! 🎶🎵 🤪
I am going to have to give it a go. I am a bit sceptical but its so much better for the environment. I am really loving Shelbi's content at the moment, I hope I can inspire and reach an audience with sustainability inspiration like she does, one day.
Thank you for helping educate me- the trash my family produces is SOOO MUCH LESS now and it is all thanks to you! Also after watching you, I started using Imperfect Foods and it has been an amazing way for me to get my family to eat more veggies/ plant based meals. More veggie peels and waste meant that we also started a compost heap! -
We definitely use a combination of both WGAC toilet paper and a bidet in our house. There are some days where the bidet is very much welcome and definitely saves on TP usage. Also, there are several distilleries in my city that have started making hand sanitizer and will refill containers that you bring.
Love your videos! For your next zero waste swap video I’d like to recommend reusable icing bags for decorating pastries. Also reusable silicone cupcake liners and reusable baking mats :)
I operate a home based child day care and I have to use gloves to change babies’ diapers and clean their noses in order to mitigate spreading infectious disease and bacteria. And they obviously work because I rarely get sick even though kids some in all the time with colds (prior to the quarantine). I hate having to use them, but I do get reviewed, so I have to. I also have to use bleach to disinfect surfaces. I hate to, but I understand I have to. I want to see if there are compromises I can do to be more eco friendly. I’ve lowered my waste in my personal life a lot, but I want to do the same for my business too because a business can create a lot of waste. Every day. In my business, I make more waste in one day than I do in my personal life in a month. The disposable gloves have piqued my interest. Thank you for sharing!
So true about the gloves. I am a registered oncology nurse, so looking after patients with suppressed immune systems all day. The idea of there being biodegradable gloves just makes my sustainable heart full! Love the tips Shelbi gives, hope i can inspire my audience like she does one day!
I grew up with an entire extra bidet sink. They're pretty common place in Turkey, not having one now feels weird. It's so much more hygienic too. Imagine having feces anywhere else on your body, would you just wipe or wash? Thanks for pointing out this handy, well designed travel one. Hope it comes out soon 😊
You continue to surprise me every video! I think I know all the swaps, and you always bring more to my attention so thank you for that! I love those FinalWipes! I'm going to go support them too, what an amazing idea! Thank you for doing your part to heal the planet, and making more people aware of what they can do too :)
I did something I thought I’d never ever do! I bought a handheld bidet, and I’m installing it today! Oh, and some reusable flannel “toilet paper,” and a wet bag! 🥰 Getting reusable cotton rounds now!
A lot of people have the seat mounted bidets but I'm such a fan of the handheld style. It's amazing when I'm on my period or after a workout (or in Florida, after stepping outside for 5 minutes)
I use unpaper toilet paper too! I use my old yogurt containers and put a vinegar/water mixture in it, and put them in there after use until I throw them in the wash!
I am so obsessed with your channel. I have made so many swaps over the past few months, it’s a super recent realisation for me how bad my choices were for the environment. Things like buying 2nd hand (I love depop!), bamboo toothbrush, bar of soap, bar of shampoo, reusable cotton pads etc...I didn’t know about this stuff too much but your channel has massively helped to open my eyes. Thank you thank you! Xxx
I stopped watching zero waste videos because they were always the same content..but you..ugh I'm 👏🏼 living 👏🏼 for 👏🏼you 👏🏼! Keep throwing all that knowledge my way! 💁🏻
Okay bidets are freaking awesome. We have saved so much toilet paper with that thing. If you wanted to use toilet paper to dry afterwards though, a good alternative is Toilet Unpaper by Marley’s Monsters.
I use the travel bidet at home. I wash myself and pat dry so I won't get my clothes wet. I think this is the cleanest way to use the bathroom plus it is actually incredible to just wash yourself on your period every few hours, then eventually you dont even have to change your pad or tampon that often. This is the cleanest way to do it, try it and you will wonder how you thought you were cleaning yourself with dry paper before, thank me later.
When you upgrade your cookware, one thing I like is to look for cookware that can go from stovetop to oven. Cast iron can be a really affordable way to go, and shouldn’t be too hard to find second hand. it works great is fairly nonstick when well seasoned and can last forever. Just don’t use soap and make sure to dry well after cleaning.
The travel bidet is still a good idea because you could run out of toilet paper. Especially when people were hoarding it and buying as much as they could get their hands on. Lots of cool swaps add usual Shelby. 😊
Here in Mexico City a lot of the ecofriendly stores sell hand sanitizer and liquid sanitizer in bulk, so you can refill your containers. Staying safe without having to compromise your values 💚
you can just use a water bottle girl. One that someone else was going to throw away though. I've had 2 kids in a hospital, so they give you a spray bottle for using the restroom for right after giving birth, so I use that along with my nonpaper toilet paper. And I never even though about using the bottle when going out, but I had one from the Frida baby company that I'm going to stick in my purse now! It's plastic, but I bought it before I became more aware about zero waste, and my 2 yo loves using it too!
Just use your shower! After going to the toilet take off your pants, swing your butt over the edge of the bathtub and shower your private parts. My mother used to do this all the time and she was born in 1940.
My boyfriend has one that attaches under the toilet seat with a knob in the side so you just move the knob and it shoots up to whatever pressure you want. I was always interested in them and when I used his I was like “yes I need this” and now mine is in the mail lol. Highly recommend. Got mine for $35 but I’ve seen some for as low as $26
I live by a natural foods co-op and recently they started selling hand sanitizer in glass alcohol bottles. It is from the distilleries that have transitioned to hand sanitizer manufacturing. I don't know if bigger grocers are selling that type of thing.
Yeah! I know there's some local distilleries in my area that switched to making hand sanitizer as well. They said it's helped them keep their business afloat and they have been selling it to other local businesses. Check your local distilleries people!
I LOVE my bidet! I don’t think I’d use a travel one though, I use like the ‘family cloth’ at home but still have who gives a crap for when I run out of my cloth ones and I didn’t plan laundry accordingly lol
I love the reusable wipes! So helpful for when a wet wipe with sanitizer is needed for a quick clean up. I like to use my rags and homemade vinegar cleaner for general use, but what a great solution for Clorox-like wipes and even for just having in the car and using on grocery cart handles!
Decided to try out care/of thanks to you! I remember you anti-hauling them back int he day but that they are compostable is amazing. I am looking at setting up my first ever compost pile! I'm nervous LOL. AND I'm not sure if you've talked about this before but: Neti pot and hanky when sick instead of tissues!
Once again, great vid! I think I might have said this on the bidet video, but the way people use them is to keep a towel for each family member next to the bidet. You dry yourself off, and wash it as often as you see fit. No waiting to dry involved, and totally reusable. Might make you like it better?
I've been using the travel bidet. A lot of us South Asian/Middle Eastern folks have been washing ourselves down there for millenia. We usually used water bottles or something (at home most of us watering cans or bidets). I had to go to a conference recently and I brought my bidet it was so great!
I've had a bidet for about 3 years now and will never go back. In my master bedroom I have mostly cloths that I use after using the bidet, but in the hall bathroom we have TP. When I have to use the hall bath I use the bidet and then a few squares to dry with. I have no interest in drip drying. I also have a travel bidet, but only use it when we are on vacation. I love it.
Can I add the film to my worm compost bin? Did they give you a timeframe it took to decompose? I registered with the company. I now feel LESS guilty for signing up for C/o 😬😂 so THANK YOU!
I make my own reusable surface wipes just soak bamboo unpaper towels in 70% alcohol. Store used wipes into sealed glass jar untill you do laundry. Also sanitizer doesn't work on dirty surfaces so it's important to clean with soap & water
Thank you so much for the vitamins deal!!! The only vitamins that I have are just from the drug store (in plastic), and it’s so cool for them to specialize it for you!! I am definitely going to look into care of🥰🥰
I’ve been looking for a vitamin swap and maybe it’s time to make the switch! I don’t have a compost bin but in comparison to a glass bottle multivitamin is the impact lower for a personalized box even if I can’t compost? Anyway, great suggestions- can’t wait to hopefully swap to some of these!
You need to get a different bidet than the one you tried before! I have one that shoots the water up without you having to hold it, which is waaaaaay better and easier.
Buying and using compostable materials only makes sense if you really compost them afterwards, and not throw them into trash. It might not leave any microplastics behind, but does it really matter if it ends up in landfill or get burnt in incinerator? Just keep that in mind.
I read that in a trial (it hasn't been published in a scientific journal) several fabrics were tested in face masks and they found out that fabric ones were as good and sometimes better than the disposable ones and those reusables work better if they are made of thick cotton fabric. I was reading an article about surfaces and the virus survival on them and it seems that the more porous the material, the less the virus remains viable. That is why plastic and stainless steel are the surfaces on which the virus persist the longer.
Hello! I wanted to give some helpful information about gloves! You are right, everything you touch with your gloves is considered contaminated. I recommend putting on another pair of gloves and sanitizing your groceries with antiviral disinfectant. If you don't want to waste another pair of gloves, just wash your hands immediately after touching the groceries, making sure not to touch anything else in the process. Sanitize tables where everything was put before they were sanatized! Also, I have a question about the sanitize tabs, are they antiviral? Love your videos! Thank you for making such informative videos
Another idea for a zero waste swap I never hear of: buckwheat pillows. They're filled with buckwheat hulls (otherwise a waste product, compostable) and when the hulls break down, you can get refills.
Hi Shelbi, thank you for all these wonderful zero waste swaps. I have bought myself a portable bidet 2 months ago as a replacement for wet wipes from a startup called Happypo, which became famous through the German version of shark tank. In my opinion it is not a perfect alternative for toiletpaper etc, but it is a quite refreshing experience and is pretty helpful during my period. And also useful when you want to travel somewhere
Yes needed this since Rona I have had to by dissinfectant and disspossable I feel really frustrated as my OCD is triggered and I need an alternative options, so thank you very much as no one else seems to be doing this right now.
I LOOOOOVE that top btw 🥰👌🏽 I love “boxy” shoulders like that I feel like it really complements a feminine figure and looks soooo instantly put together!
I got an electric travel bidet for when I had given birth 2 years back, It stopped me touching my Stitchs and kept them cleaner. Making heal a lot faster than normal (midwife said I healed a lot faster than normal) definitely worth owning a bidet after.labour!
Sort of related (at least on the subject of cleaning?) but sort of not, but do you know how to properly dispose of old chemicals and such? My boyfriend and I bought his parents house when they moved and with it came a TON of trash that I’ve been going through in quarantine , including decades expired cleaning products, bug spray, etc. I swear this stuff is older than me. It doesn’t seem safe to use in any capacity but is there a way to dispose of it without just sending to landfill?
I walked into so many bathrooms in Paris that were just out of everything, soap, paper towels, and almost always toilet paper that honestly if I ever go to Paris again (fingers crossed for someday) a travel bidet will be in my day bag.
Awesome I had no idea Care Of Vitamins had compostable packets. I also want to get those final wipes, and metal bottle with sanitizer my husband is an essential worker so that would be so much better than his plastic bottle of sanitizer. Thanks!
I got one of the travel bidets to try a few weeks ago when I couldn't find toilet roll anywhere and honestly I'm actually so glad I did, It's massively reduced the amount of toilet roll going to waste 😊 (and tmi but it's much more comfortable than paper too). Not sure that I would actually use it when travelling but with a limited budget its been great to use at home 👌
The travel bidet I like is the cujoclean, it attaches to any screw on plastic bottle so you can reuse one, and it doesn't require any energy/recharging
I'm immunocompromised so I've been wearing gloves in public but I use the proper protocol. I don't touch my face or anything I shouldn't and since I use my phone for my grocery list I always sanitize my phone before touching it without gloves. I never rewear gloves and when I'm done with them I throw them in the trash not on the ground. I put on a new pair when I unload the groceries, I also sanitize the groceries before I bring them inside.
Here’s a low waste sanitizing idea: uv lights. A several companies offer phone sized ones but some also offer slightly bigger one that fit a variety of small objets.
You know that UV light if not handled correctly causes molecular damage, right? I just don't see how making those bigger and for house-hold-use on countertops and door handles would ever be supper appropriate. You have to be trained to use an autoclave and other professional sanitizers, and it's scary to think people would take a UV concept, package it up to make a quick buck off post-pandemic panic, and let people who don't know any better hurt themselves.
I don't know if a lot of places are doing this, but a few local distilleries near me are actually making hand sanitizer. You just bring a container and they fill it up for you(nice and low waste) but idk how many distilleries are doing this. Anyway, it's a cool thing and wanted to raise awareness of that
I want a Bidoo!!! I use a squeeze bottle at home, so this would be so much better! I only use it for #1, but the Bidoo would probably work for #2 as well. FYI, I bought a bunch of washcloths to use exclusively as drying cloths, which work great. For anyone who hasn't tried any kind of bidet - when your bottom is wet, using toilet paper to dry it does not work well. It gets soggy immediately and shreds in your fingers. ;)
For sanitizing hands and surfaces I use isopropyl alcohol (70%), it comes in a glass bottle with a plastic cap. (That is the main ingredient for most sanitizers.)
The gloves are cool because my partner, sisters-in-law and sometimes myself dye our hair pretty frequently (which I know is not great but sometimes pampering yourself is nice.) and you need gloves. We can at least recycle the bottles.
when I used to do lab stuff at uni with pathogens and such, we were discouraged from wearing gloves (unless we could contaminate the samples with our skin cells) because it creates a false sense of protection that makes you more likely to touch your face with dirty gloves. The safer approach was to just sanitize your hands and tools as soon as they touched something that you didn't know was sterile. Sure, you use an entire bottle in a day, but it's the safe approach.
Thank you for linking to a plastic free sanitizer that is UNSCENTED. The homemade one they made available at work smells terrible. Really cool video. The last wipe looks awesome.
The “travel bidet” has been around for a long time in the thru-hiking world. It’s kind of funny to hear about here, but if it’s something someone wants to try out then more power to them!
If you try another bidet...perhaps look into the Lux Neo 320 ...I just ordered it. No affiliation. It had more features that I liked...both for cleaning and for 'controlling ' pressure and spray. ( it has the 'female' wash option)
I love my bidet! I miss it when I'm not home but I haven't gone so far as to buy a travel bidet. Meanwhile, the final wipes sounded so good that I went to see if they were available yet. Apparently there's a big brouhaha brewing about them since the company has changed from the bamboo wipes 2 cotton ones. I thought you want to know. Keep up the great work!
So many great tips and products!!! Thank you so much Shelbizleee. Do you know if the cleaning wipes you mentioned are eco-friendly created from bamboo? I've learned that a lot of the bamboo fiber and fabric processing when they are created and seems like there are 3 major chemicals that are toxic. Just wondering if you have seen anything about that with this company?? Thanks for all the great content!!

Hi! What is this?
Came here to say the same thing. Travel bidet is def just a peri bottle. 🤣
Emma Masters it’s just a bottle you can squeeze and it sprays water out gently.
I bought a peri bottle because I couldn’t find tp in the early days of the pandemic. Absolutely a must-have for me now, and I don’t even have kids yet hahaha
Haha yes!! I thought the same thing when she mentioned travel bidets 🤣 pregnant with baby #4 and have a stash of “travel bidets” 🤪
To continue with this series, can we do a "what's in my eco-friendly emergency preparedness kit"?
That would be such a good idea
Lol I see all the mamas watching have mentioned the peri bottle for a "travel bidet" and honestly that thing saved my lady bits after I had my son.
Interesting 🤔
If you ever decide to try a bidet again, Id recommend using reusable cloths to dry yourself off after, toilet paper tend to leave residues and its definitely not the most pleasant haha
air dry
I wanted to get a fancy Toto bidet seat with the "blow-dry" feature. I tried it out at a spa (in the before-time) and it was pretty cool. Yeah it still left my bits a tad wet but it was manageable.
Travel bidet - isn't that just a fancy word for spray bottle? 🤔😂
From The Earth well, you have to practice a little bit but after a few times it becomes quite normal. :)
Travel bidet is very handy to have if you have super heavy periods and you need to “clean” yourself up in a public restroom.
Thank you for helping educate me- the trash my family produces is SOOO MUCH LESS now and it is all thanks to you! Also after watching you, I started using Imperfect Foods and it has been an amazing way for me to get my family to eat more veggies/
plant based meals.
I use the Tushy travel bidet and I love it! It's so convenient and I like that it collapses and has a carabiner clip, making it super portable.
I use the travel bidet at home. I wash myself and pat dry so I won't get my clothes wet. I think this is the cleanest way to use the bathroom plus it is actually incredible to just wash yourself on your period every few hours, then eventually you dont even have to change your pad or tampon that often. This is the cleanest way to do it, try it and you will wonder how you thought you were cleaning yourself with dry paper before, thank me later.
omg the final wipe and plastic free tabs sounds so cool!!!!!
They’re allowing refills during the pandemic..? That seems incredibly risky, I’m surprised they’re doing that.
I can see that, but they do sanitize and clean everything in between clients and give hand sanitizer to people when they walk in.
i wish i could get my parents to look into a bidet LOLLLL i’ve never even tried one but i’m so fascinated by it
you can just use a water bottle girl.
My husband is not a washcloth and spray cleaner. He loves wipes. Shelby thank you for mentioning these wipes!
LOVE your channel like NO OTHER. never stop please!!!!
Keep positive in these trying times! You are a great active advocate for saving and preserving the world we live in 😊
Added these to my huge list of eco-swaps I plan on doing! Thank you!
Once again, great vid! I think I might have said this on the bidet video, but the way people use them is to keep a towel for each family member next to the bidet. You dry yourself off, and wash it as often as you see fit. No waiting to dry involved, and totally reusable. Might make you like it better?
You’re brilliant!! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, it’s inspired me to start a little channel myself :)
I always love your plants! Do you also have a blog post about all of your plants or just the TH-cam video for now?
The refill Shoppe sells hand sanitizer that you just buy to refill your stuff and it comes in a pouch that you keep sending back to get refilled.
Thank you so much for the vitamins deal!!! The only vitamins that I have are just from the drug store (in plastic), and it’s so cool for them to specialize it for you!! I am definitely going to look into care of🥰🥰
Great point about the gloves. Just handsani after touching crap. The wipes are brilliant as well.
You are such a blessing. I'm a tru earth, dropps and cleancult user because of you!
THEYRE COMPOSTABLE WHAAATTTT!! my jaw dropped omg.
Another idea for a zero waste swap I never hear of: buckwheat pillows. They're filled with buckwheat hulls (otherwise a waste product, compostable) and when the hulls break down, you can get refills.
This is one of THE BEST videos you have done. Thanks so much for sharing about this mask its AMAZING.
Where I live, wearing gloves is mandatory in shops and public places, so this compostable glove idea is definitely useful right now!
Interesting! I haven’t seen that.
@@Shelbizleee I live in Poland - not much concern for reusable itesm here but improving every year!
O yeah, I wanted to comment exact same thing. Also from Poland :)
Girl you are the queen of the Zero Waste community!!
Got the sanitizer and backed the wipes!! Soooo excited!! *Also saw Earth Hero sent out an email about you and I was so excited I already knew you 😉😊
One issue I would have with that reusable mask is probably the skin irritations from my skin not breathing. But it is really cool
Not a Canadian I do the same thing, and I wash all the groceries, bags, and anywhere they touch once they’re inside.
It gets soggy immediately and shreds in your fingers. ;)
I learned a lot! Cheers :-)
Me too! Shelbi is so good at bringing something new and different. I hope I can inspire my audience like her one day!
For sanitizing hands and surfaces I use isopropyl alcohol (70%), it comes in a glass bottle with a plastic cap. (That is the main ingredient for most sanitizers.)
what kind of box do the wipes get held in? like the thing they were pulling the wipes out of?? such a cool idea though!
you can check out all the details on their page! I've linked it in the description for you!
I loved everything about this video! definitely cool, new and different stuff I have never heard of!!
Thank you for making this video! I never thought about the metal container for hand sanitizer. Now that’s something I can implement in my business 💕
I literally found this series today and binged watch it all, perfect timing for you to post lol
I love your video so much, great research and very helpful. Thanks ♡♡♡
"Travel bidet" sounds like what they send you home with from the hospital.
Those wipes tho 👀.. all of these are awesome!! Thank you soo much!!💜🌏💜
So many great tips and products!!!
I love my Pela case and was so excited to see their ad come up on your channel!
I love that you made this video relevant to right now. I’ll have to check out the compostable gloves (and suggest them to my family haha)!
