In nature she would have been either killed off immediately or left to die. I'm so happy to see that she can live out a decent life and get the chance to have like any other chimp. She will always need assistance but this zoo seems to have her interest. She captured my heart from the very first time I saw her. She is a fighter!
This little one tuggs at my heart. I don't like to see any living being suffering from any abnormal problems but i know it does happen. I'm just glad she is getting the best treatment. If she had been in the wild she would have either died from being disowned from the troop and left to defend herself or brutally killed off from one of the alpha males or females. I love this little girl, she has a strong will to live.
I love this little girl! She has a strong will to live. The handlers seem to be doing a great job with her too. I hope she will be able to socialize with some elderly chimps and some younger chimps between 2 to 5 years old so she is not totally isolated from having a decent life.
I had an uncle, and two cousins, born with an unbalanced chromosomal translocation. They effectively had impairment on par with Down Syndrome. It's striking the movements, and especially facial expressions, that this chimp has in common with other humans who have cognitive impairment challenges.
You will have to wait and see how it plays out. Maybe being hand reared, female, & pretty much paralyzed on her right side; maybee they might be able to interact personal & hands on. BUT,...you never know. I hope she lives a long pain free, positively enriched life; as possible, considering.
I imagine she will have to live her life with human assistance and minimal contact from other chimps as they are most likely to use her disability against her and would subject her to years of abuse, neglect and eventually killing her.
maybe I should have read the description or whatever it's called before I commented BUT even tho it's a cute baby chimp it is exactly that a chimp chimps know about compassion and vulnerability so she should be with other chimps and nature should be allowed to take its course. the scientists should be ashamed of themselves. stop playing God. Let her try to have a natural life. 6months of being with other chimps will give her more fulfilment than 35 years of this abuse!!!!!
@nolan hicks They don't even let him TRY! How is he going to learn anything! I did read it,just because he's disabled doesn't mean he can't TRY....there just crippling him more! They want him dependant on them! It makes them feel GOOD! Even, though it's harming him more! Best Wishes! Have a good day.
No matter how I personally feel about Zoos, Bless everyone that has been helping that adorable baby. GREAT work! Much love & luck. ☺

She looks curious and interested. I think she will have a happy life, even with her condition.

She gets A for effort. Thanks for a very wonderful video
Scary to think that this chimp will probably never fit in with other chimps and will be too strong for humans to control in a few short years...
Prettymuch true! but I dont know if it would be any stronger having a condition that it has.

Why is she hemiplegic?
Her mother went 2 wks over, she was born under anesthesia, so it could have been hypoxia, birthing injury, etc.
Is this similar to cerebral palsy also occurring under these types of circumstances of birth?
Is he just weak because of who had him before
Muscular dystrophy or pulsey
Perfectly smart tho.
