As a kid back in the 70’s, every Saturday while my dad played softball at Ke’ehi Lagoon Ballpark, there was a bunch of us kids who would be playing on the field that they weren’t using. All of us would stop the game every time a plane would takeoff from Honolulu International Airport and watch it go. 747, 707, DC 8, DC 10, 737, DC 9 etc…even F4 Phantoms from Hickman AFB. Sure do miss those days.
The ballpark was so close to the airport, the roar of the engines was awesome. Thank you for sharing this video. Brought back some good memories.🤙🏾🙏🏾

Wow - that UA DC-10/10 just before rotation is amazing. You see how eager the bird is to get into the air. Beautiful!

Those JT9Ds produce the best sound especially at 11:21. I love them to death. The 747 is the best aircraft ever built. RIP Joe Sutter.

Love those old L10-11s! I had no idea the L10-11 had a reverse thrust on the middle engine 5:17! In reverse thrust we trust! Cool video :D

This is pure gold. 100% love this capturing of pure aviation power from the earliest of 2000's. These are jets! Not the new age stuff. Im proud of America from this era.

Thank you for uploading! I'm a 38 yr old Irish guy in Dublin. About 20 years ago I got really interested in planes. Still to this day I watch videos like this as well. I am grateful for the advances in air safety etc etc - but at the same time you'll never get to make a video like this again in 2020-2030. The 747-100, DC10 etc etc. Wonderful planes, and damn........LOUD!!!! All planes now almost have silencers on them. Not complaining at all, I appreciate they are cleaner and save fuel, all good stuff. Just miss sitting out the back of Dublin Airport and hearing a raging loud Ryanair 737 speeding down the runway (good God, they were so noisy and shook the ground!!!!. They, and many many others now are a lot quieter. In the same way I suppose, I used to love Formula 1 racing. Schumacher, Alesi, Berger, Hakkinen, Barrichello. Loud F1 cars were amazing. To me, the sound and look of cars then was so awesome. Now - the cars are like a little lawnmower. The essence of the sport is gone. Planes now for me, are the same. I miss it. Great video. Thank you 😊

I think this era is actually better than our present day. Back then you get to see a huge variety of planes, from 747’s to DC-10’s to Lockheed L-1011’s and then down to those beautiful looking 737 classics and to awesome Fokker turboprops........man I just missed this era of aviation, wish I was born earlier ✈️

Love to see this jets taking off. Actually i love to watch this whenever i'm taking a break from doing alot of task performances lol, even though this is classic, it's sad that some of these jets are already gone, scrapped, converted into cargo planes, and planes from dissolved airlines went into other airline operators. Sad to see them go but a big shoutout to JustPlanes for uploading this to see what how classic these jets are :)

As a young elementary age kid in the early mid 70,s still remember the pattern to Honolulu and Hickman came right over our base housing.Mostly arrivals about two minute intervals for domestic and international flights.707s dc8s nines 737s classic 747s and three holders.on occasion when they departed the C5As and air force tankers with the scram jet engines were deafening.

When it comes to aviation, I wish that we could go back in time. 🥺 The glamour years, the years when flying was an adventure and going to the airport, was like a trip to Six Flags . Now in 2024, traveling is so stressful and with the scandal at Boeing, you wonder if you'll even SURVIVE the journey !!! So heartbreaking how far the industry has fallen. 😢

The last plane in this video.. The *original* N702CK. A 747-100 delivered to JAL in 1971 (as JA8107), converted to freight in 1977, then on to Kalitta in 1992, stored in 2010. Today's 702 is a -400. You just don't see runway eaters like these anymore.

Hi JP. That China Yunnan 737-300 at around 17:16, was it filmed in 1999 on its delivery flight? Hard to imagine it being a regular service (ETOPS, range/payload). Nice rare catch though!
