I think the person who brought up katana length was speaking about overall length. Most modern katana the I've seen their overall length is around 41 in or so give or take 28 inches or so give or take. So compared to modern renditions a 35 1/2 inch katana overall would be on the short side... If they were in fact however referring to blade length and that would be quite a large katana indeed. Also I am not an expert I'm just looking in comparing stats. If it was overall length out also be too big to be a wakazashi based on what I'm seeing the modern stats for overall length of those is around 30 in. I think it would also be a little bit too big to be an o-wakizashi I think I don't know the actual overall dimensions of what those would be off the top of my head.
47:44 I remember that video. Not the same, but my brother accidentally took a giant divot out of a table he had made and my katana got a little nick. After that our cutting stands include foam squares around the wooden parts and dowels made of wood or plastic that can easily be cut. Oh, and we made a detachable base for easy disassembly. Four legs around a 4x4 piece, you can tighten the bolts or shim for stability.
I sent LK Chen a picture of the French Officer Preval Sabre. Thats a Steel three bar hilt Sabre grip and a 36" thicker Smallsword triangular blade on it. Very unique. LK chen told me a bit back that the Smallsword may be a future project. They are researching that.

I always thought the translation was roughly fights like a cat
In Shakespeare's time rapier fencing was seen as He who fights by cat arithmetic. Or something close to that
