RECIPROCATING MACHINE:
Planer, Shaper, slotter are reciprocating type machine, used to machine flat surface either horizontal, vertical and inclined surfaces by using a single-point cutting tool.
In the planer, the workpiece is held on the table and reciprocates horizontally. Feed is given to the cutting tool. In shaper, the tool reciprocates horizontally. Feed is given to the table. In slotter, the tool reciprocates vertically. Feed is given to the workpiece.
TYPES OF PLANER
The different types of planer are
1. Double housing planer
2. Open side Planer
3. Pit planer
4. Edge Planer
5. Divided Table planer
DOUBLE HOUSING PLANER
This planer is the most widely used heavy duty machine. In this machine, many workpieces can be held and machining can be done in vertical and horizontal direction simultaneously. The important parts are explained below.

4. Cross slide
5. Tool heads
