It's an important distinction to note that Colin did NOT say (or mean) he can't accept her... everyone wants to just label him as being unsupportive, or say he's trying to stifle her, but the situation is much more complex than that. Remember, this conversation is happening in the direct aftermath of the Queen threatening the entire family and warning about what she's going to do when she finally finds Whistledown. So it's not Colin just wanting Pen to deny that part of herself. He's trying to protect her and his entire family. There are other complex feelings going into it as well, but it's not as simple as people want to make it. And Pen's whole speech (the one that everyone seems to love so much) drives me crazy a little. He can't possibly know what it's like to not feel like he can be himself in society because he's not a woman? I'm sorry, is this not the same man she confronted literally the evening before, and called out at the beginning of the season for putting on a front? For "trying to be the kind of man society expects" in his own words, and "hiding the parts of [himself] that the world will not accept" to borrow hers? No lie, being a woman in that world was tough. They had pressures and issues men didn't have to deal with. But that doesn't mean men didn't have their own pressures and issues (both in general and in their personal lives) that women didn't face. There's a tendency to assume that if someone doesn't have the exact problems we're facing, then their life is fundamentally better and easier than ours. But it's simply not true. This honestly felt more like the writers trying to create a stand-up-and-cheer moment than something authentic to Penelope. Because saying he can't possibly understand societal pressures and expectations because he's not a woman is straight-up nonsense. His are different from the ones she faces, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. If you really want to know where Colin's head is at in these last two episodes (and the entire season, really), you should definitely check out Sammy Bates' analysis of Colin on her channel. It's fascinating, and really eye-opening. His motivations are a lot more complex and nuanced than a lot of people pick up on. He's definitely a flawed character, but he's also a genuinely good guy who's really going through some stuff. And he handles all the drama this season surprisingly well when you really think about it from his perspective, instead of only from Penelope's. The more I watch this season and really pay attention to him, the more I love him, and him and Penelope together. It is absolutely my favorite season and love story! I honestly can't imagine any future season topping it for me.
💯 this! This is exactly how I feel too! I think people really try to disregard Colin's feelings of betrayal, hurt, anger and even fear just because they want Penelope to "win." Pen did ALOT of damage and hurt so many people. Even though her LW articles were "fun" to listen to from the outside, they were so hurtful and preyed on people's weaknesses and secrets. Pen was openly bullied by the ton, but Pen bullied the ton in secret, that is not a good thing to do. I don't think Pen should have to give up her writing, and I don't believe Colin would ever in a million years want her to stop writing, I think the issue stems from the nature of the LW papers and how much ire it has brought down on her and his family from the Queen. We all want Pen to win, but just like how we found grace for Pen in her faults, we need to show that same grace to Colin...he is allowed to feel angry and hurt, but most of all...just like Pen he is struggling to fit into society and go against the ways of the ton. That is not an easy thing to do. I honestly think Colin is the best male character is a long time. Even when angry he is never aggressive, he listens and tries to understand, he never shies away from love and is a genuinely compassionate and good man. I wish people would really listen and look at Colin and actually hear what he is saying. So many people bring their own biases and projections onto Colin and that's so sad. He's such a sweet, soulful and emotional character who loves and adores Pen unconditionally. Even after his worst heartbreak, he is still marrying her and loving her. He is at that alter staring at her with unabashed love and adoration. There's nothing more romantic than that! ❤

I agree with the beginning of what you said, but no Colin doesnt know what its like to be a woman in their society. Colin trying to fit in is different from a woman being as restricted in that society. He may be able to relate and even sympathize, but no its not the same and thats okay.

The hard part with this season is it tends to really rub up against our modern sensibilities. Colin is the more traditional type; he wants to be the sole provider because that's how he feels he will show Pen his love. Pen feels invisible and Whistledown is her way of making herself heard. Both Pen and Colin are desperate to prove themselves "worthy" to each other and to society so their different perspectives grate against each other. I also had to add this: It is so important to prioritize your health and wellbeing when you can. Do not ever apologize for that. The people who are meant to be in your life will never judge you for taking care of yourself. Love ya, Taj!!
And once again Eloise has shown that she’s a horrible friend. Penelope literally saved her ass from Cressida and she won’t even bother to help her resolve things with Colin. I understand that Pen needs to mostly do this on her own, but my god she could’ve at least said to Colin that Pen saved their family from Cressida’s lies that night.
I love your reacts! This episode was so messy. Firstly, Colin, you know why Pen/WD wrote what she did at the beginning of the season! Why is that making you mad? Second, Eloise could have stuck up for Pen. Third, his dig about her entrapping him, Mr. Bridgerton, excuse me? You were the one slipping under her skirts and stripping her down. Consented, but he made the first move. But the wedding was so beautiful!! 🥹🥹
To be fair to Colin, it doesn't matter if what Pen wrote was true, or even what her reasons were for writing it. If you were going through some stuff and making some bad choices and your best friend chose to call you out and lay your mistakes and insecurities bare in front of everyone you know rather than just talking to you directly and privately, wouldn't you feel betrayed? It was still a crappy thing for Pen to do, and she only wrote it because she was mad at him. Even she recognized what a bad idea it was the next morning, but it was too late. Also, as far as the entrapment comment, he was out of line, no question. But we have to remember that he's not a blank slate, either. He has history and trauma just like Penelope does. And this situation had several parallels to what happened with Marina- 1) his fiance lying to him about something really big... the kind of thing that he should have been told so he could truly know what he was choosing and committing to, 2) being made to feel like a fool who was being taken advantage of, and 3) wondering how well he truly knew her, if she was keeping such a huge secret from him. So I imagine to him it might have felt like the same thing was happening all over again. And again, I would like to point out the parallels. Pen was mad at him for a comment he made a year before and decided to roast him in front of the entire ton. He is feeling betrayed by her keeping a huge secret with far-reaching ramifications, and he lets one unfair comment slip to her in a private conversation, while still refusing to dishonor her by making any of this public or calling off the wedding. All I'm saying is, we need to cut my boy Colin a little slack. He's handling this situation really well, all things considered.

And afterwards, damn, I sure wouldn't be thinking! Haha! So I don't think it could be expected that Pen would just tell him in that moment. And I think Pen learned a lesson about the power of her words, which she really needed. However, there was opportunity, I think, for Pen to meet with Colin and break the news to him, and he certainly deserved that from her.
