Just to give you an idea, I run on this park for years and NEVER saw anyone successfully pet them. I had to see first, here, on TH-cam. That`s how rare this is. Humans and their necessity to not only tame all animals but also post everything on their social media. In spite of being docile and sociable capybaras host the tick Amblyomma sculptum which might be transmitting the Brazilian spotted fever (BSF) caused by the bacterium Rickettsia rickettsii. Every now and then you see on the news deaths of people who had just sat down to contemplate the landscape or set a picnic in a field where capybaras usually attend. People either get bitten on the spot or carry the ticks back home putting their relatives or friends in danger.
      Aos amigos brasileiros que romantizam tudo: nunca ouviram falar de febre maculosa? Carrapato-estrela? Capivaras são animais fantásticos e sua capacidade de socialização com outros animais é algo de outro mundo, mas por favor, respeitem seu espaço e deixem seu ego de lado. Acariciar e ou postar isso no insta ajuda em que as capivaras? Pelo contrário, estimula q outras pessoas tentem perturbar seu sossego e contribui para mais casos dessa grave doença. Consciência, rapaziada!

    • @ricardofurchi6980
      @ricardofurchi6980 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CalmoOmlac The BSF, Brazilian spotted fever, is a very serious illness. There are cases here in Brazil which the person was just having a picnic or sitting down/ lying around reading a book where the capybaras usually hang out and they die shortly right after. A disease one really struggles to survive. There are public warnings about those areas and every now and then an expert comes out to public to reinforce the requests on staying away from these places. They do that because they are quite aware of people’s need to get closer and closer once capybaras are that “cute”. This kind of behavior, and that’s the point I’m trying to make, may encourage other people to approach them as well. One thing is to enjoy hiking and being out in the nature, other is to engage with wild life just to prove you can or to please followers on social media. One day you’re just petting, the other day you’re hanging out…getting closer…then you talk about it to friends and they want to try it out too…next you’re on instagram advertising the whole thing. You know how people are…they know no boundaries. Ps: to prove my point, go over some of the comments from Brazilians who live near that park and notice how some of them are even talking about “updating their petting game” in there. That’s completely insane!

    I had never heard of a capybara before until one day I went to a small county zoo and saw two of the CUTEST PRECIOUS FUR BLESSINGS I had ever seen. I had to go read the marker to know who they were. Since then I have made it a point to always stop when I see any photo or article about them. This man is living one of my dreams. I would love to be able to see them free and living in their own habitat. Such ADORABLE BLESSINGS they are.

    Capybara facts: Their genus is called Hydrochoerus, derived from the Greek words ὕδωρ/hýdor (water) and χοίρος/choíros (pig). When these creatures were first described to the Vatican, they believed it was a fish so they counted it as a type of fish that could be eaten during Lent. There are two species of capybara, the capybara/greater capybara (shown in this video) and the lesser capybara (found in Colombia, eastern Panama, and northwestern Venezuela). The name Capybara itself comes from the Tupi word (an extinct language from Brazil) ka'apiûara that means "one who eats slender leaves". The main capybara species is found in all South American countries except Chile.

      I'm from Winnipeg but grew up on a farm. I generally avoid Zoos because I hate seeing animals caged but one of the most charming times I had at a Zoo was at a glassed in Prairie dog enclosure watching them dig holes and then get in kerfuffles and dust-ups because one digger would be digging a hole and inadvertently be throwing dirt on the entrance to another Prairie dog's home. They were incredibly entertaining and lively, whereas most of the other caged animals just looked bored and depressed.

    Yup, pretty much accurate. Capybaras are the coolest and most dope animals on the Earth, and other animals somehow know that. They just hang out with basically anybody...carnivores, herbivores, doesn't matter, they're just chill. When their ancestors arrived in South America, they showed up to an area with lack of predators and plenty of grasses to eat. Because of this lack of predators, capybaras got to the size they are today. Another capy fun fact, the Japanese like to give them hot baths! It's not only cute, buts also healthy for them. They are not adapted to the Japanese climate and their skin dries out in winter. There is a study that concludes that the warm onsen baths improves the skin of the capybaras in winter and helps them relax.
