Marguerite Jourdain is my ancestor from Notre-Dame of Bois-Robert, Rouen, Normandie. She came to Québec in 1667. Would love to learn more about her.

My wife descends from Catherine De Baillon and at least one other French gateway ancestor, Anne Couvent. I descend from an English gateway ancestor - Thomas Lawrence. I have ancestors who lived in Riviere-Ouelle, among them Robert Levesque and Jeanne Chevalier, a filles du roi, and Jean Gauvin and Marie-Anne Magnan, another filles du roi. Both Robert and Jean participated in the Battle Of Riviere-Ouelle.

You do amazing videos and they have proven to be very helpful on more than one occasion. But now I have more a question than a comment about Catherine's daughter Marie Claude. You mention that all 5 of her children with JB Arel (2nd husband) lived to adulthood. But genealogiequebec has their first son (Joseph Augustin1) dying & being buried in Feb 1703 at age 3. Help!

Beginning to wonder about your best friend's name! We seem to share pairs of ancestors.

You might want to reconsider identifying Catherine de Baillon’s birth place as Monfort-l’Amaury. No baptism record has been found for her there. Her parents apparently never lived there. Ouimet argues that she was probably born at or near her father's farm at La Mascotterie, in the parish of Lays (Yvelines). Unfortunately, no baptism record has found for her there either. See Raymond Ouimet. "Catherine de Baillon et ses origines." Mémoires de la Société généalogique canadienne-française 52, no. 2 (Summer 2001): 105-106.

Thank you so much for your comments! I used Peter Gagne's book for identifying her birthplace--but will absolutely look into this as you have suggested!

@@HaveRootsWillTravel When my colleagues and I wrote our articles and book on Catherine de Baillon, we wrote that she was “vraisemblablement” (presumably) from Montort-l’Amaury. We were suspicious because we could not find a baptism record for her there. Ouimet’s analysis of her birth place came out after our book. I have never discussed this issue with my colleagues, but I personally believe Ouimet is likely to be correct that she was born at or near her father’s farm at La Mascotterie, parish of Les Layes (not Lays, my mistake).
Monfort-l’Amaury is about 16 km from Les Layes. Perhaps Catherine reported it as her place of origin because it was a larger near-by town.
Unfortunately, Catherine’s baptism record has not been found at Les Layes either because several years are missing from the parish register. We will perhaps never know with certainty her exact birth place, but I would think it more likely that she was born at or near her father’s home at La Mascotterie.
