It's true. We had one of these talks when I went to basic. I was actually housed in one of those buildings they used in the film for my reception time. It wasn't conducted like this one, but, this is true to the basic training experience.

The best one I can remember is when being asked why did you join? And btw they do actually do this in basic training. I'm so glad they came out with the extended version. I've seen this show well over 100 times. It ran on cable non stop when it came out. It ran for decades. The scene where Hulka says it's come to his attention that several members of this platoon left base wo proper authorization" has driven me nuts for decades. There was no scene where anyone left the base. Then the extended version came out and showed one of the funniest scenes in the entire movie where Murray and Ramis hitch a ride with the airborne troop do a jump and get captured by Colombian rebels. Ramis is high from taking a bunch of micro dot reinholds character gave him for motion sickness. The whole thing made sense after that. The behind the scenes stuff is crazy. Anything went with reitman. Everybody darn near lost their jobs. They interviewed the key players fir the anniversary and Murray agreed to do it under specific conditions. A certain day date and time at madam ?s Bae and where house in Bangkok tialand in a specific booth with only one interviewer and one cameraman. And the only light allowed was 1 black light. Very bizarre.

The only time I remember having a "conversation" with the T.I. in Air Force Basic was the drill where you are learning how to report to an officer in the office.
( the salute, the language, the posture, etc. ) The seargent was seated - and was playing the roll of the officer I was reporting to. He tried to make me lose my
serious composure by calling me Wimpy ( after the Popeye character ) and was asking if I liked hamburgers - if my girlfriend liked hamburgers - If my momma
was a hamburger, and on and on - trying to crack me up.....I did a pretty good job and mostly held it together.....but started laughing my ass off when I left !
