  • The new 7 series is an engineering marvel. BMW has finally caught up with Mercedes, and has made something very unique, and dare we say class leading...
    Oh, and it smoked EPA.

DM, This is a STUNNING achievement from BMW. I am not talking about power, luxury, features or refinement. What I am referring to is the adoption of a traditional sedan profile that we have not seen in years. BMW has made the radically RADICAL choice to provide as much leg and HEAD room for rear seat occupants as it has for those in the front. They have driven a stake through the heart of the uselessly 'swoopy' coupe/sedan profile introduced by Mercedes with the original CLS and slavishly copied by everyone else ever since. I can only wish those brave Bavarians the best of luck with this boldly BOLD move. 🤩

I took my 760i on a 1700 mile round trip back in April of this year and my wife and I were so surprised at how long we were able to drive without stopping for gas. We had to stop for food and rest first. When we did decide to fuel up it had been well over 6 hours of driving, even in sport mode at times , before we refueled. The gauge still read just over a quarter of a tank left. This is an very impressive car for its size.

It's insane how BMW's engines tech has improved over the years. My 08' 328i with a V6 was marked for 18/28/22 (real world 24 for me) and this is a Twin Turbo V8 exceeding it. Insanity and hope this helps keep ICE vehicles alive for a bit longer. Miss my 14' 328d though (50+ MPG on highway road trips at 70 mph)

Modern gas engines are direct injection, this give around a 20% boost compared to port injection ones. And then you have the electric power steering and water pumps, and hybrid tech, which all help a little too. The B58 6 cylinder cars give about 20+% more mpg than the older 6 cylinder non turbos too, with more power, at highway speeds. My old 330i would do 37mpg (imperial) at 70mph, the 440is would do mid 40s mpg in the same condiitons by all accounts. You can have your cake and eat it.
I like the overall package on this car, you can't beat the feeling of luxury in a big, spacious car with some power, shame they couldn't fit a rear camera view mirror though.

      Not a V6, it’s an inline 6, N52 or N51

the world is SUV crazy but you just cant beat a big luxury sedan for long distance driving. 30 MPG is outrageous for a V8 twin turbo

Great review. BMW just knocked it out the park this time around. Usually the S class is leaps and bounds ahead but this 7 is right up there, if not better.
